My starter has been grinding and acting up lately. It looks like any 86-89 AT fuel injected or carbed Accord starter would work (even 85-87 FI Ludes). I think manual trannies need the exact manufacturer to match. Do I really need to know the manufacturer name (denso or Mitsuba) or am I good either way I go. I'm going new aftermarket on this one and I want to get the right one before I pull the old starter. Thanks!

yeah it does matter i think, look at your starter and if the cylinder is round its a mitsuba, if its rectangular its a nippondenso...

I'm really not worried about the cylinder shape per se. I can't imagine Honda made a different cutout in the case for 2 different starters. I am thinking either one will work so long as the gear has the same amount of throw to hit the flywheel and turn it. I know AT and MT have different starters/flywheels, but it appears the AT's are all the same (or both manufacturers will work).
