i had a problem with my tach bouncing around, soooooo i replaced the entire ignition system not too long ago...accel ss coil, new ngk wires, used dizzy from ebay, new plugs....and i even replaced my gauges b/c i messed up the fuel/temp part. so all that is replaced and my tach still skips and bounces around...most noticably when i hit the gas hard. whats the deal? the bouncing is exactly the same so im pretty sure the used dizzy isnt the prob b/c how could it bounce and skip exactly like the old one

a wiring problem, most likely. either the wires between the coil and the cluster are bad or there's a faulty ground on the cluster's connectors. time to bust out the multimeter and get to testing.

when i've heard about that before it was this black resistor thing. here's some pix of it. its the black square screwed onto the coil bracket. i hope that was the right thing. if it is, then its easy to replace, just cut the wires and solder on a new one. i'd say get one from the junk yard, you could easily yank that and no one would know.

"radio noise insulator"

if that's bad or not connected properly, that will certain cause gauge problems!

How is the protective wire boot that covers the coil terminal? you may want to add electrical tape around the connection.
