Sorry if this has been asked before, butI have a rattling, tapping noise coming from the front of the engine compartment. It is over near the timing belt location, and I cannot figure out if it is the valves (adjusted them this morning), or the smog pump or something else. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions for me to check?

Thanks,
Biggene

1. i would check the recirculation valve. unplug it and see if it stops.
2. if the noise still there, check the valve clearance.

I already adjusted the valves this morning, but the noise doesnt sound like valve rattle. It almost sounds like something around the smog pump/ ac compressor area is loose and rattling.

Where is the recirculation valve located at? I will check that and then I am gonna put it up on the ramps and see if anything underneath is loose.

the valve is located between the valve cover and the carb. it has metal line coming in and it has plastic box connected to it. the valve sits on the top of it and has vacuum line connected to it.

Ok took the timing cover off and figured out the belt was bad. I was changing it out and lost the woodruff key that goes in the crank, anyone know where to get one at??
