View Full Version : true flex pipe VS. Socket joint pipe

I noticed this in difference between dc sport and pacesetter how important is a true flex pipe and will a socket joint pipe cause any damage to my car a buddy at work said it might I'm just new when it comes to exhaust and just wanted a explanation between the 2 thanks Paul

nope its just a different design. If you notice, alot of integras had the ball and socket flex joint, as do some civics. I think the stainless braided flex sections are better but the socket type last longer

Oh O.k I was reading a20's write up on headers and I am going to be buying meangreens pacesetter heasder and just wanted to make sure thanks

socket type flex joints are prone to leaks and introduce more stress to the manifold. Since the pacesetter is made with such crappy metal and flanges, it will warp and leak. I went through two pacesetter headers and downpipes on my 3G prelude in 3 years.

the true flex is the best way to go. most people that buy the cheap header products like the pacesetter usually cut out the socket joint and weld in a universal flex. Those can be found cheaply on ebizzle.

The ball and joints tend to give cars a raspy more raspy sound.

as long as your car is not slam, you should be fine with either.

what size would flex pipe would i need to replace the pacesetter ball joint?

just match up the inner diameters. 2.5"? 2.25"? someone help me out. i'm only familiar with the pacesetter parts for porches and preludes.
