Been a while boys and girls. Well, I sold my '87 LXi w/ all the SEi stuff on it some time ago and moved on to faster things. Unfortunatly I needed a daily driver that got decent gas mileage and had A/C. As things turned out, a friend bought a new car, and didn't want their 1988 LX anymore, and offered it to me for free if I would come get it. As I saw it first day, last Saturday:

It got smacked by someone trying to change lanes at some point in the past, the bumper cover broke completely off and the fender on the drivers side suffered some corner damage. Beyond the accident, it needed a lot of maintenance done. Mileage was at 193,000mi.

After all the usual stuff (plugs, wires, rotor/dizzy cap, all filters and fluids), a thorough bath, and some time with a sledge hammer on the bumper support, it came out looking like this by Sunday evening, taken at my fathers house:

Still need to recharge the A/C, replace the high pressure power steering line, and the shock and springs need replacement. Other than the above it'll get some SEi sway bars I got laying around, and that is it. I don't intend to modify this car in any way; just not worth it with my other cars being what they are. Also can't complain about the gas mileage - its nice to drive 100 miles and not eat 1/3 a tank.

Anyway, there it is.

Thanks, all. Yeah, I have gotten quite a few suprise stares from people who have found out I got it for free. All in all, this one is in better condition than my 87 LXi ever was, despite the amount of conversion and normal work done to it.

Now, if I find a good set of used 15" rims, I might go for those, but I like those 2g Prelude rims a lot; they just look right on the car. I will be seeking a replacement bumper and fender if I can find the right paint code; if not, it will stay as is.

Hey! those rims are exactly the same with my original rims back then. Kinda miss it. :sad2:
And yeah, you're damn lucky getting it for free! In my country it'll cost at LEAST 3000 US$!! :pc:

Glad to see it's safe now!

You'd better take good care of it!

Oh yeah, I plan to. By the end of this weekend, the dead radiator fan, the high pressure power steer hose, and the dead light bulbs will be replaced. A/C recharge, waterpump, and timing belt are the following.

I'm toying with the idea of the EGR removal, as the fast idle doesn't work now anyway - it is all over the map in the morning, or idles at 1,000 rpm, so I know it isn't working. I don't feel like buying replacement sensors, so it is a possibility, as long as my gas mileage isn't affected.

No, I sold my 87 LXi a few months ago; it was sitting there, and I didn't feel like driving it anymore. The blue hatch in the background was my first 3g though; I sold it to my father about 3 years ago. I've also owned another 88LX, a 89 SEi, and a 89 Coupe (junked it, too much rust).

Hmmm, don't know. Right now I'm split time wise between work and Athens - I'm working on something there. Oh, I'll make the time in the next few months, I just got to stop overloading my schedule. Hit me up on my cell.

Ah look, another happy customer of the free car effect. The only one i ever got free was a 1978 Buick Regal. and dont even talk about the gas mileage...
