is it possible for a stock 88 to beat any vtec hondas?

Shouldn't the answer be no? Which vtec equipped honda has less power than our cars? The first north american application was the 93 integra gsr and that car will beat any stock 3rd gen.
The best chance to win over another vtec honda that comes to my mind would be the 92-2000 civic ex cars with 127hp. Even then those car get to 60 in 9.2, pretty close to the 88-89lxi cars isn't it.

Civic VX and HX bolt have VTEC and both are slow and they were made in 92+.

HX has a 115 vtec and an insite has a 67 horse vtec remember vtec is cool but it does not mean you are unbeatable.

Aw man I forgot about those models. They didn't come to my mind because their vtec's are not for high end power they are for high gas mileage and aren't performance models.

Actually, our cars are quite similar to the Civics in size and power. We get more torque because we have a 2.0 motor and not the tiny ass 1.6 motors.

I don't think you starting nothing, I said I thought it would be close, based on the numbers. I've driven the civic EX's and my drivers seat impression would be that it's not close and that the accord would certainly win. But the numbers tell a much closer story:rolleyes:

i drove 98 civic Ex automatic with single cam Vtech it is like 127Hp at fly wheel and all i have to say NO WAY.

WEll cant vtec are u talking about u got 2 types of vtec. VTEC (which stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is an electronic and mechanical system in some Honda engines that allows the engine to effectively have multiple camshafts. As the engine moves into different RPM ranges, the engine's computer can activate alternate lobes on the camshaft and change the cam's timing. In this way the engine gets the best features of low-speed and high-speed camshafts in the same engine. Several of the links below go into the actual mechanics of the VTEC system if you are interested. I belive the dohc vtec in gsr and type r are the best out there!

Well the original question was "is it possible for a stock 88 to beat any vtec hondas?" I don't even have to think hard to know my car could beat the 2 vtec-e cars the vx and hx. Remember both those cars have hecka tall gearing, 2050rpm's at 60. I've driven them both and my brother owns a vx. Now since I think the spirit of the question DID NOT consider those 2 cars, then you will have to consider if the 127HP 1.6L civic's can be beaten. Their weight is simular, so is the gearing. But the torque curves aren't. I've driven them and can account for the difference in power delivery, they feel slooooowwww. But I think it would be close.
