6.5", generally has to be a shallow mount, or you can use a 5.25" and not have to worry about depth so much

it really depends on what trim you have. The dx's(some of which only came with front speakers) and lx's normally came with 5.25" in the front doors, and 6.5" in the rear deck. Now some of the lx-i's, ex-i's and se-i's came with 6x9"s in the rear deck. Im not totally sure if 6.5"s came in the front doors of the higher models, but as from me measuring my place and trying to visualize a 6.5" in there, it dosent look like its going to fit correctly without some modification.

hope that helps...

the 6.5 fits in all of them, but most of the aftermarket ones are way too deep... best bet is for 5.25s up front...

and only the 88/89 lxis and seis had the 6x9 pods in the rear... DX didn't have them at all, and the lx had 6.5s

and the bose system had some odd small speakers up front...

87 lxi has 5"1/4 in the doors and 6" 1/2 in the back

Yup... 3" in a 6.5" ported enclosure... so retarded.

mounting depth should be under 2 inches for the fronts or the glass will hit it.

you can mount 6.5" all the way around with no problem if you customize the front mount a little any 6.5" speaker will fit.

I have 6.5" speakers in both the front and rear, and the door windows clear the speakers. They are all hidden behind the factory speaker covers, so not to attract thieves.

I can be done, just do your homework first. The best way is to bring the rear speaker cover/enclosure with you for the rear speakers and see if they fit (the place I bought speakers from, let me check). For the front speakers, just make sure the speakers are not too deep. Don't bother bringing the front speaker bracket, because you are going to have to cut the speaker bracket to get the 6.5" speaker to fit.

A lot of speaker companies have special lines of speakers that are designed to be shallow mounted (like Blaupunkt's Overdrive series of speakers), just keep searching until you have 6.5" speakers that fit the front doors.

You don't need 6.5" speakers (although they still would be nice) if you are going component, since 5.25" is enough for mid bass when adding a subwoofer(s). However, since you will have to mount the tweeters in a non-stock location (probably involving cutting the body/door/dash panel), thieves will notice this instantly. And since you have component speakers, thieves know you have amps, cross-overs, subwoofer(s), etc., so you are now a prime target for theft.

Good luck to you, and get a decent car alarm.

Peace.

I have alpine s-type 6.5's all around, they fit in the doors fine with no modification on my car. quite a nice sounding speaker too

Wrong... my 5.25" speakers barely fit, and i had quite a large wooden baffle built so that they would fit.

the diameter is 6.5 for the front of all accrods but the SEi cars... the problem lies in the mounting depth

The diamater is still 6.5 in the front for the se-i;'s... honda just put a plastic enclosure that is 6.5" diameter in it with a 3" speaker.

yes, but does it have the same basket that the rest of the trimlines have? you really need to be mounting your speaker in the basket or you'll run into more problemns with depth

shepherd79

really you can use any basket from any 3G model. they will bolt up with no problem.
what i did was, i cut the back of the basket and left just the ring for spacing and mounting the speaker to it.
i laid Dynomax buffer material inside the door and you can't head my speakers outside the car.

anyone know if you can swap a 6.5 pod into the back of an 89lx-i. Don't feel like dishing out more money for speakers than I already have.

Vanilla Sky

yes, but you have to find them... they came stock in all 4-speaker systems in 86/87, and i believe in the lx for 88/89... i would go for those if you can find a pair... i do have a pair of the 6x9 pods for sale, but that's not what you're looking for

i managed to get 2 6.5" infinity's up front w/ no modification, except i left off the front grill and left about 3/8" of space between the sbeaker backing and the mounting bracket. the 6.5" alpines really are a better fit, though.

Didn't read the whole thread so if this has been said alread I apologize. When I wanted bigger speakers with a bigger depth, I just made my own custom fiberglass kickpanels. They bolt in where the stock covers were. I have my speakers aiming up at me so I get the full blast of the speakers. Don't know if this helps if you need instructions on how just pm me.

<---------- Already got one with 6.5" pods :) I just got the lxi and haven't had time to take it apart yet.
