This weekend i was swapping out my broken strut for a unit i got at the junk yard. My buddy had a couple rear struts out of an EK SI laying around. I saw them sitting there and they looked like they'd bolt up perfectly. Matched with my civic coilovers (that werent working too well BTW) they ride GREAT. I'm talking about no harsh bumps, jolts or anything. Coilovers ride smooth and stiff, but not bouncy in ANY way. I'm lowered to 0 wheelgap with the coilovers and it still rides awesome. Everybody who's ridden in my car before and after say its a night and day improvement.
I know i should have taken pictures, but i didnt have time because i was in a rush. Had a date later that night. :naughty:
but i thought i'd let you all know. OEM EK Civic SI struts are a perfect bolt in and work great for coilovers.

are they shorter?
NXRacer

yeah, they're almost half as tall. They're the same diameter and stuff, just a lot shorter. When you're as low as i am, the short strut helps keep the proportions right. The front is a little mushy, but overall the ride is a WHOLE lot better then before.

sorry, i don't know much about civics. the EK is '96-'00?

yep, thats the right year. The only years they made a Si Coupe. Everybody makes suspension for those.

so wait caleb. By swapping a stock si shocks to the accord, how much does the car get lowered?

His car is already *dumped* on some civic coilovers.
This is the only decent, full shot that I have of his car, but you can tell it's dumped. There's absoluely no wheel gap--and I'll confirm that with those stock, blown struts the car rode like absolute TRASH. The bounce was horrid!
edit: His the blue hatch (just for clarification)

Same question as everyone else - how much is the drop from stock height.
Can you post a better pic than that pic in traffic? Maybe a full side view or something.
TIA
Peace.

i'd like to try out some full coilovers... omnipowers are fairly inexpensive for what you get... an EK sport set is only like $800 shipped

Thanks,
Nice side pic, although I'm more interested in seeing the rear wheel, since the coilover discussion is for rear.
The drop looks too low to pair w/ my front konis. And I might not be able to pass recon inspection w/ that big a drop.
Peace.

It's dumped, for sure. Probably 3 inches, maybe more(?). It's way too low for me, but I admit it loos pretty sweet, especially on a roll.

I'm curious, caleb, did you use the top hats from our cars?
I know the front hats on their cars are 2 bolt on EG (92-95) but not so sure on the EK (96-00). We have three in the front. I really like to get some full bodied coilovers on our cars.

well i just wanna know with the stock size setting, how low the car is. I dotn want him to have adjusted the coil over to a lower setting to have the car sit low. From the pic alone, its too low like my car and i dont want it. I wanna know if we swap in just the stock ones, how much it will lower the car, in that way i can make up my mind if i wanna get a civic rears in a full body coil over and have it set to the stock height.

:jaw: i love how low it is. thats how i want mine :D
how low do you think it would get by just putting some stock springs on?? or would that not work good??
NXRacer

i dont think running stock springs would be a good idea with these struts. You'd want to lower it at least a little, but i'm not sure. The Civic struts are almost half the size (maybe 5/8ths lol) of the original accord strut.
With the civic coilovers, i'm down right now to MAYBE 1/2" wheelgap (its up higher then it was before). I have them adjusted about halfway on the sleeve. Dunno if that helps.
here's a picture from the side of what it used to look like before.

thats with just the civic coilovers. It was SLAMMED and rode like shyt. Not as bad as some cars i've ridden in with coilovers, but still not something i was happy with. With the new setup, the ride is a dream.

:uh: :uh: stupid me :bowrofl: i just noticed you guys were talkin about the struts not the spring/coilovers.... :uh:
so the best way would be getting civic coil overs and the stock struts am i right??

I remember you having front illumnias. Aren't stock 91 civic front struts taller than our cars? I know for a fact alot of 88-91 civics use our front struts to gain an extra 1/2inch drop.
Anyways I am curious what the valving on the illuminas on the different year civics are.
