Another custom CAI ... maybe?

Anybody ever try getting some thin-wall steel tubing bent into a CAI?

I was over at Home Depot and saw some gas/air-duct tubing that I thought was perfect for shaping purposes (not to actually use as a finished product).

Next step is to go to a muffler shop (?) and see what they can do for the final product. Even if it doesn't work out, I only spent $12 for the duct.

All ideas, suggestions welcome. See URL for what I've done so far.

a good shop wouldnt need a pattern to bend a pipe for your car. its pretty straight forward.

not worth the money, IMO. but hey, that'd be original. u could get it powdercoated too for an awesome finish.
make sure it matches the paint of your car, and you'd be pimpin!

personally, i'd stick with ABS plastic tubing, or aluminum. there's plenty of CAI kits on eBay for under $30 that u can make work.

oh, and originally, my CAI was just the duct hose. ;)
i had it wrapped with a thick, foamy insulation blanket thing that goes on your water heater. it was awesome.
and the air that came into the manifold was COLD! colder than any CAI i've ever seen or heard of. definately insulate that piping! or not, it's optional. depends on how important looks r to u.

Yep just done this mod, got a Samco Reducer pipe from 76mm to 63mm, 76mm is 3" and 63mm is the diameter of the outside of the Throttle body, fitted like a glove, bought some Aluminized steel pre mandrel bent to 60 Degrees perfect angle for fitting between the ABS pump and the Dizzy, the filter does just about squeeze between the two, but i'm going to relocate the battery to the boot and extend the CAI with another 3" section to take it all the way forward to behind the front light, the filter is pretty big and is the metal gauze type. Put a breather on the rocker cover and binned all the plastic crap that was the old filter box on the inlet manifold. Also i did some work onthe Throttle body, i bored out and knife edged the inside the inlet throat on the TB, then i knife edged the butterfly, and then put countersunk screws into the spindle that holds the butterfly in and ground them completely flat onto the spindle. This gave a much better profile to the spindle and butterfly. This combined with the Custom CAI really made a noticeable difference, engine is a B20A though not A20 and it really felt a lot quicker from 5-7K shame the rev limiter cuts in so soon!!! But great thing is all it cost me was £75 or would have been just £50 if i didn't use the longer straight pipe. Most CAI kits in U.K cost from £125-200 so i was well chuffed!!
Only other problem i've found that is the idle screw adjustment in the TB makes a really high pitch whistle sound all the time does anybody else get this and did they find a way of shutting it up??? Thanks
