When i did an oil change i filled it up all the way to the very top of the fill mark, 1000km later i found that the mark has lowered itself to about 3/4 way on the full mark. is this normal oil consumption rates?

according to my book it should be between the two lines any higher and you have a good chance it will be sucked up the pcv system

I'm getting about 6000 miles per quart on mine. I have an 86 Lxi 5-spd with 90,000 miles.

I dont burn any oil really. I fill it up properly when I change it, by the time its tiem for an oil change maybe its gone down a mm from the fill line.

I've been going through about 1/2 a quart every 1500mi. I think that most of this is going to a couple of small leaks. Not to bad for 253k all original.

heck your valve cover seal,your pcv hose on the back of your oil pan, your timing belt cover at the bottom of the crank pulley to see if oil is driping from it(this would indicate a crank or cam leak) look at the back of the engine where the oil filter is theres a gasket behind the filter adaptor plate,oil pan gasket, or does it smoke when you first start it? or for a second when it hot starts? these things are notorious for valve stem seals going bad and you would be suprised how much oil you can lose. i killed off my oil onsumption when i replaced them oh, check your drain plug, that little drip will use a lot of oil. with syntec blend what it costs, i fixed every oil leak i had. 265000 miles and no oil used

im about the same as savage but i got 340k on mine
