well this is the pilot shaft bushing. Is there no bushing used on this honda engine. we have two a20a's neither one has a bushing. yet I see clutch kits have a bushing including NAPA's kit. I don't think I've ever seen a std trans that didn't use a bushing on the end of that shaft

No pilot shaft bushing on our cars. Heres the breakdown straight from honda's part pages

yeah it is wierd, there is a spot for them in the flywheel, but ive never seen a honda come with one, ever.

when you mount the tranny, make sure the end of the tranny main shaft and the whole in the crank (in the center) are close. they should be close enough.
some A20's trannies had smaller or bigger end at the end of the main shaft.
i had that problem with one of my trannies. it has small end and my engine has big whole. the clutch went to pieces in less than 2 month from vibration.

no pilot shaft bushing? this is wierd mine had one i know because last time i changed the clutch i replaced it. that's what the end of the transmission input shft rides in . when you have the clutch pressed in and the engine is turning but the input shaft is disengaged what do you think keeps the input shaft from dragging on the rotating engine? it's actually in the end of the crank, if you pulled the flywheel off it would be pressed intothe end of the crank. i just got my book out, doesn't mention anthing about it but you can def see a bearing pressed into the end of the crank. my 81's all were the same way no mention about it but it was there.

I'm looking t a picture of the flywheel end of the crank it's not pressed into the flywheel it's pressed into the end of the crank. the end of the shaft goes through the flywheel into the crank. that parts diagram from honda doesn't even show the hole in the crank.

no they are pressed into the flywheel, the hole in the crank is there so the bearing and shaft have a little clearance in there.

I'm looking at a picture of the crank one just has a hole and the other one def has a bearing in it
