you got too many fog lights, IMO. but are those speakers i presume mounted on in one of those pics?

lostforawhile
06-30-2005, 08:03 PM
speakers? the only thing i can think of are my digital fuel pressure gauge the tach, and one of those is a blankout in the gauge cup, i'm going to put n air fuel ratio gauge there i have two sets of fog lights because i frequently have to use the high powered lamps on back roads here and the amber are usually on the rest of the time. it's all a system they are controlled by the high/low beam switch and a master switch. the clear lamps also have secondary bulbs so they act as running lamps/turn signals when the main bulb isn't on. Oh the front licence plate just in case anyone tries to blow it up, it's one that i found at the swap meet here, it's still got the 86-87 stickers on it andthe original county the car was titled in in 86. georgia used a plate stamped with 1983 from 83-89 just made you buy stickers

not too shabby, wtf is up with ur intake?that is cowl induction when the hood is closed it pulls air directly from the scoop at the back edge of the hood. it was fabricated completly from scratch. the center section is made from an antiique aircraft intake cut in half. and all the carb mountiing plates were machined out of billet. the aircleaner itself was made from two mr. gasket aircleaner top plates with the tube tig welded on. the scoop came a ford something from the seventies not a mustang can't remember what it took forever to get all the layers of cracked paint off that fiberglass. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/moultriemanicmechanic/Image00024.jpg here is a better pic of the scoop

i am working on the body it just takes a long time to finish. i want to get it completly straight before i paint it. that rear filler panel under the lights tooks weeks of metal work alone to get it fixed. this is still a project in progress it's amazing how a body can look fine until you start fixing all the dents, then you start finding stuff. fixed something like 50 smll dings so far, and everyone of them requires removing more pa  int

hopefully by this fall we'll be able to finish the paint, i took the summer quarter off from school, i have to fix that left rear corner and couple more shallow dents we are trying to do all metal work and use as little body filler as possible. it'll look beyond good when finished. i have an automotive collision teacher who is very old school as far as repairs. and i've got my wife helping me, she did all the metal work on that left front fender it was bashed in,now you couldn't tell. i could have just put another one on there but now i can tell people it's fixed to blow their minds . i will have to post a picture of the fender before.

Do you always set your altimeter settings with updated barametric pressures? or is it left standard? actually i don't set itat all sometimes it sticks. hehe i just put that in for looks and it's an inside joke. my boss likes to pick on me about how much airplane stuff is in my car(eg. aluminum) so i put in an altimeter. kind of like Johnny Cash one piece at a time.,except i work in an airplane factory not a car plant. I'm also a fan of Harley Earl and he liked to use airplane parts, so kind of a nod to him.

It's nice to hear someone say something nice for once. all the domestic guys liketo run it down because it's not a mustang or a jacked up camaro. they think anything thats imported is junk. talking about the guys where i live now, i've been to several car shows in the project category and it generates a fair amount of intrest. oh in response to the questions i've got in pm. thats's not rust on the car, that's primer. it's just cheap primer because when the car is done all that will be sanded off and we will spray the whole car with high-build primer before the paint. the fender is already done in u-tech epoxy, it's got brown on it because as soon as i got it on the car, some idiot ran a shopping cart into it.

a number of people have e-mailed me wanting to see a better pic of the regulator and fuel system. this is the regulator itself this is not rice, it's important to have a regulator on a carb system to smooth out the fuel pressure it also helps prevent wear on the needle valve, and if that tiny plastic relief valve on the pump should fail it will keep that excess pressure from causing fuel to be coming out of the carb in places where it shouldn't be. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/moultriemanicmechanic/Photo300002.bmp here is the fuel log on the firewall you really can't see it in the other pictures normally there is a line pressure gauge on it but it is temp capped off. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/moultriemanicmechanic/Photo300003.bmp

I dunno man I've got mixed feelings, I like the hood and stuff you've done on the engine. Also the seats (leather?) but some stuff you've done to the interior like those acessories, (skull, and get a window crank please), and all those switches look out of place to me.
if that's how you want it though, do YOU. looks like you put a lot of time into it.

did anyone notice what those window cranks were? I had the option of cheap plastic window cranks or making something different. those are made from real connecting rods, all i could find was stuff like help garbage so i started looking at different window cranks and it dawned on me they are nothing but plastic connecting rods. there are three pieces to each one of those the trim ring the center piece that attaches to the window part and the crank itself. there are about 80 hours total in just those two pieces and several proto types. :) the interior is leather with vinyl sides on the seats i went for a combination for the sake of keeping the interior clean. I made every single piece of that interior the seats, the door panels, the headliner, etc. the hatch is upholstered too notice there is no pocket in the rear deck? i also covered the rear quarters and got rid of the plastic pockets in back. I've got the big skull and wrenches brakelight because i'm a huge fan of monster garage. it looks like the animated one on monster nation. I just like the old hot rod stuff too like big daddy ed roth with rat fink. i guess i'm one of the first to really try to blend some of the old hot rod style with the new. were you talking about the over head switches? they let me manually turn on eithier one or both cooling fans. thats so if you are going to be stuck in traffic you can keep the motor cool instead of waiting for the engine to heat up first. you really can't see them unless you look up from the outside. I just went for the functional look everything has a purpose on the car...other then the altimeter...it doesn't look as cluttered in person as it does in the pictures everything kind of blends together. those are old flip up nsx interior colors by the way. I just wish my camera had better clarity. those engine pictures make my plug wires look multicolored or something. cheap digital crap, i really put a lot of detail into the motor i'm in the process of replacing every small fastener under the hood with stainless steel socket head cap screws. that way i can fix most underhood stuff with a set of allen wrenches. just a couple at a time. i'll just be glad when the body work is done and i can paint it. I hate the junker primer look. we've already put about 400 hours into the body i'm talking about real metal work not filler. hammer and dolly work and welding and grinding. hope to paint it by this fall

Hey there is nothing wrong with the way your car looks IMO. Its got a very utilitarian vibe to it and its all about personal taste. Nice work. When I was rebuilding my car we started to go with a more rallye utilitarian vibe...more go less show. I think installing functional gauges and warning lights is worthy of praise over $150 APC bolt on tachs, neon garbage, and hoards of prefab gauge pods that hold boost gauges for NA cars, LOL. I totally respect that you've built many of your parts by hand, like a true craftsman. What your car lacks in a "uniform" clean look, it makes up for in character. BTW mad props on the upolstry and leather interior...

lostforawhile
08-31-2005, 05:44 PM
thanks i think when I get the paint done it will look more uniform. the primer breaks up the look of the car a lot. i designed the interior to function like an airplane cockpit, i drive my car a lot so i wanted everything to be oriented towards the driver. like my gauge setup. I've got my fuel pressure and will have the air/fuel gauge on my left, my tach on my left, the primary instruments in front of me,my oil pressure warning light in front of me on the right side of the gauge cluster,my oil pressure and voltmeter in the center of the dash where i can see them easy, the clock in plain view in the center console, the altimeter, well that doesn't have a real use,i even picked a head unit that doesn't have a bunch of complicated controls, all my eq's are preset so i don't have to adjust them. i've got my xm controls overhead, along with a switch to manually override the cooling fan,and a future one installed for the oil cooler blower. i've got a little bit of neon, but nothing too out there. it doesn't look like the mothership from close encounters of the rice kind. it's a little bit out there with the skulls and stuff but thats been a staple since custom cars were first built. oh some people were wondering what the thing was with the holes drilled in it under the hood, that a cross brace for the aircleaner,it helps support the air cleaner assembly, the other piece at the end of it is a urthane link i made so it can move a little bit when it has to,the whole intake floats on that and a big rubber donut on the carb neck. the aluminum ring sits on the donut and the filter screen bolts down inside of it. it's all set up so i can change it over to a webber carb by changing the carb neck plate under the ring http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/2050000-2050999/2050019_198_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/2050000-2050999/2050019_193_full.jpg

I've got so much to do on it and seem to have so little time lately. it will get done though. i had an idea i don't know if anyone has tried it,i was thinking of doing the inner door areas and the underhood area with that epoxy based white appliance paint. then having it matched to spray the rest of the car with standard automotive paint. it would be so much easier to do those area a little bit at a time, especially under the hood. that epoxy paint is really tough stuff too. i would be concerned about uv deterioration but those area aren't exposed to sunlight like the rest of the car. it would be a bright white but after test spraying some high gloss white on the hood and looking at it under different conditions the original yellowish white paint is really starting to look ugly. what were they thinking? you can't tell how dull it is until you look at it next to high gloss white.i ran a piece of masking tape down the center of the hood and sprayed an area just for comparisson. it doesn't matter what kind of paint i use at the moment because i'm going to media blast the entire hood.

auto collision then my degree in automotive tech. I am old school, pacman and galaga old school. I remember when these cars came out. I am back at school at 33. i am wasting my talents working for fast food wages at a highly skillled job. such is the south. I decided to take the flames off the hatch lid by the way,They just don't look right, i am going to be redoing that upholstery on the hatch lid areas this weekend. it was a bitch to do but it went from black to blotchy blue, and i have to do it over. The fabric had bad Uv inhibitors. I will be sure to take some pictures. freakin fabric is like 30 bucks a yard. lucky i had some more. I'll admit the car is a little strange, but so is the owner  I don't know if you have seen that discovery show monster nation, before they canceled it, :crying: I'm definetly one of those strange people and their strange creations. They filmed my santa clause hot wheels trailer but it didn't make the cut.I guess they take a lot of footage and some of it doesn't get out of the editing room. we were at a fourth of july celebration about a year ago and one of the photographers hapened to be there visiting his family. photographer/scouts whatever you call them. so he took a bunch of video and stuff.
