finally had the chance to put my car on a rack and do some work...
i replaced the front swaybar bushings, axles, clutch, flywheel, shifter linkage bushings, oh yeah, and the transmission internals.
unfortunately the mainshaft has its first gear forged, so i couldn't keep the accord first gear, but the integra transmission is awesome.

16lb steel flywheel from phrenology -- quicker acceleration is a good thing! note the urethane shifter bushings

they make cool paperweights now...

fuzzy pic, but it's stabbed! hooray!
 i'll post a vid with the new 0-60 time when i get a chance

Nice! You used the D16 Integra gears in the A20 tranny?

Just look at junk yards for the 86-89 integra 5 speed tranny. I got mine from a friend for 50 bucks. You might want to buy some bearings and syncros. I didnt and now i dont have a 4th gear. But its not that hard to do. Remove the back cover, take off 5th gear, unbolt the bell housing, remove shift rods and reverse, then pull the shafts. Check out the how to on it.

Thanks a bunch..I lost fifth gear. Do you think that it is a good way for me to go?

so then is it hard to swap from auto to manual ?

I like it a lot. Way better acceleration. Only draw back is in 5th gear at 65 your at somwere around 4200. Thats why a lot of people put in the accord 5th gear.

it definitely feels alot bettter than the old accord tranny. He got the teg tranny from Jesse. The PANDA INTEGRA that is around here posting the other pics threads besides me . :P
4000rpm in 5th gear = 65mph. =P
We went around last night and it was definitely fun.

Wow that's really high rpm for not so high of speed. Do you have any "official" 0-60 times from b/f and after?

talk about tight ratios compared to the accord stock lol, the accords dont hit 4000rpm until 75mph in FOURTH gear lol...
damn that looks all too familiar btw (just spent like, 3 days laying under 2 different accords changing a tranny, long story.
glad to hear you had no major problems though, cant wait to see the vid!

How long did it take you? Im going to do that with my spare tranny sometime but Ive never pulled apart a tranny before though

for those wondering about doing the swap themselves, it's already been said by the other members here. it's a straight forward swap, just be methodical and clean. the hardest part for me was actually the removal and reinstallation. once the transmission is out of the car, it really is just unbolting things, pulling the gears out, putting them in the accord bellhouse, and bolting it back up.
rebuilding the transmission is never a bad idea. just inspect your synchros and bearings. at the very least, replace the seals and the input shaft bearing.
the gears are certainly shorter, but since the majority of my driving is city streets at 25mph, i am not too concerned. it is easy to keep the accord fifth if you don't mind dumping it from a drop like 3rd to 5th now.
my camera sucks, but i'll try to get a short video of the acceleration. it's hard to really tell the difference in first and second, but once you drop into third it's obvious. the integra first is actually longer, so it makes it easier to "go slow" in first than it was in the accord
the flywheel also helps to rev. after the conversion, i could say that being in third currently pulls how the stock accord second felt.
hope that helps you guys get a sense of the feel.
regarding the cost, i paid 100$ for a working integra transmission, and cost for the seals/bearings. rebuilding the transmission cost only about 150$, but i didn't replace any synchros because the brass rings looked tolerable for my 180,000 mile car.
also, if only your fifth gear is busted, you can replace that without dropping the whole transmission. drain it, remove the cross member, unbolt the front support near the right wheel, lower the engine on a jack until you can pull off the black cap on the end of the transmission. that's simplified of course, but you get the idea.

looks like you had some fun doing that. that's something i'd probley like doing, taking a tranny apart and putting it back together. i would put a 5 speed in but i think i want to keep my 3gee automatic. lits really nice when i'm tired comming home at 5:00am from a party or girls house. no thinking of when to shift. i wish there was a good automatic from like a prelude or something i could put in though. i need a new tranny, just shifts hard but i deal with it. maybe a prelude 4 speed auto would fit?

Yeah man, Chris' ride bolts more than ever with those new tranny upgrades. It was a bit tough going uphill in traffic last night, but once we got rolling it was tight!

whadda ya mean a but tought going uphill? is that due to the lightened flywheel giving less momentum? here where i live i dont think it would really matter. its really flat here in texas for the most part.

We were stuck in San Francisco Saturady Night Traffic. Everything here is a damn hill. Chris was doing all the driving last night. It's tough to get it in gear going up hill from a stop around here even on stock drivetrain internals. I don't know if he's got the clutch broken in yet too. I dunno I wasn't driving. Ask Chris?

yeah, you just have to rev it higher to get it moving. everyone keeps talking about "breaking in the clutch" ... is there something i'm missing? i'm just driving it!

You're supposed to go easy on it for the first 500 miles or so for the clutch to wear in and seat. Otherwise you risk glazing the clutch and it won't grab as well, similar to when you replace the brakes. Atleast thats what is said in the directions. I've never had a problem with it, and I know it can be hard to not beat on a new toy...

hmm, well i'll start being nicer to it.
and for the record, it's closer to 77mph at 4k rpm in fifth :P

yea my clutch had that break in period as well. First 500 miles no hard drivin. I just drove it easy never above 4k and easy take offs and my clutch hooks up good now. As for the tranny just like mr. eff said hardest part is stabbing the tranny putting it back in. Real strait forward job just dont mix up accord and prelude/integra (tranny of your choice) parts.

man, i still need to do that sometime. i have the teg tranny, and i could easily drop the 5spd out of my 2dr. i guess just getting the rebuild kit would do it. i've just considered doing it, and using the tranny in my 4dr until i have money to build the engine for my 2dr. i would gonna keep the accord 5th though, for the freeway.

people left an right talking about tranny swaps. I guess its popular when i bought my car the tranny in it was replaced right before i got it and it has different ratios. i dunno what it came out of but i can go like 73 mph in 2nd gear. by the way its auto, you tell me what tranny it is... :dunno:
