View Full Version : it sounds like i have a vw beetle stuck in my engine

There is a really odd sound coming from my engine, it sounds like how a vw beetles exhuast sounds like. Im thinking its an exhaust leak but i just put a new gasket in it while i had to replace my headgasket. Does the exhaust manifold gasket have to be clean because i noticed it had some rust on it but i didnt think that would matter. The gasket was brand new but it had sat in my garage for a while The noise will get louder under acceleration and is really pissing me off :banghead: . If anyone knows what im talking about please help!!! :help:

might not be the gasket. check out the whole exhaust system

I agree you could have a leak.

Is your car performance still good? Like it doesn't feel like you're running on only 3 cylinders does it?

might be a rust hole or someplace that caught a rock...make its breaking at one of the joints.....like where the down pipe meets the next section or where the cat goes in. could be the cat. who knows...get a small mirror or two..or go to Autozone and get one of those mirrors on the extendable rods and a flashlight and check it out.

yeah my performance is still good but i cant see how a rock would make that sound :sad2:

oh now i see what your saying :uh: yeah im a little slow sometimes but i will take your advice and check things out today thank you for the help :)

If the exhaust mani is leaking youll see black soot around the leak area or when its dark youll see a flame shoot out when you rev it up and let of the gas.

probably related to the EGR
the VW boxer engine has a rougher sound than an inline... since the EGR is connected to only 1 cyl's exhaust (not entirely but if you ever drive without the pipe you;ll understand) it can sound like that...
also check the connection from the manifold to the downpipe, it uses a ring gasket

Why would anyone do this when the s200o engine has more hp's?
