new 2 the board

wats up everybody. i gotta 87 hatchback lx-i. its in the paint shop as we speak. im gettin flame red, but anyway. i put in some 5.25 sony explods in the front and 6.5 sony explods in the back. i kno how everybody feels about the explods but i got both sets for 90 bucks so their decent. im thinkin of gettin either 2 10's or 1 12. any suggestions or inputs would be helpful about how to set it up, where to place em, anything about the woofers. thanx

My preference is 2 Rockforde Fostgate 10" subs or hell you would have enough room for 2 12"s... My experience with the sedan trunk, go with a sealed or ported box, for you, a bandpass box cause that is what bandpass boxes were originally intended for are hatchbacks... What wattage you looking for? How far away do you want people to hear you before they see you? And BTW welcome to the board....

thanx a lot acid. btw im only 16 (keep the budget in mind) but my speakers are decent i jus want to add the bass thats why i only wanted 10"s and ppl at bb and cc told me 10"s would probally be loud enough. but i jus wanna be noticed in the parkin lot, thats why i was thinkin of jus gettin some explod subs.

if you just wanna get noticed in the parking lot dont expect to have your subs for long, thieves love that kind of shit. and IMO stay far away from xplod amps... speakers suck, but if you are strapped for cash then its not the end of the world.

get tinted!!! my budy had a MK III supra (hatchback) and his subs and amp got jacked cause you could see right throuh. GET TINTED FIRST!!!!!! anywhere in the country its like 110 for the whole car. GET TINTED!!!!!

next off...stay awafrom sony amps and subs. they are crap that will burn down. as for their component speakers......i have a dirty secret too....i had them before my infinities. they arent bad for the price you pay. but the subs outright suck. put good money into that. if you dont get a bandpass box (the closed in one with plexi glass on the front) box, then put the box against your seats and face the subs to your trunk...the sound hits the back window and bounces up to the front. max sound....

ya i was thinkin about gettin tinted 1st but in you can only get tints in the back windows but its better than nutitin. ya the sonys are decent for the price. i dont know where to find a bandpass box though so i think ill have to go w/ the 2nd thing you said.

and what size subs do you guys recommend? 10" or 12"?

depends what kinda subs you want. what kinda music you listen too.....bigger subs have less of a response--bigger size takes longer to move then a smaller diameter....for quick bass hits 10's are good.....for longer reverberation 12's are good. also how much money you wanna spend. if you just want a retarding amount of bass 12's will shake the shit out of you..might not sound as clear as a pair of 10's which might not hit as hard.

ya my car speakers are straight i jus needsome bass. thats it strictly bass. jus that extra thump. between the amp subs and box i dont wanna spend over 250 (if possible)

btw 1 or 2 subs?

I would go with two subs... check around for sales, sometimes you can get buy one,get one free sales. don't forget the box.... make sure you compare the RMS and peak watts on diferent subs that fit your needs

My little brother and I both had, in our time, bought a cheap $35 15" sub online, and used amps that, whether name brand or not, had high peak wattage...

.. and we were never disappointed. we could be heard across a parking lot like two 12" audiobahns or whatever.... or any relatively loud system. It hit the lows like we like, Dr. Dre, and so on, and was plenty of boom on stock speakers (I actually spliced in tweeters to each speaker for highs... and it worked great.)

two subs of the same kind don't make that much more noise than one. something regarding the fact that there's only so much air to move in a given area, and you can't necessarily induce twice as much sound energy into the air with two than as with one.

The RF 600W RMS 15"s for example, I can attest to being with 8dB being the difference in one of my friends having 1 RF 15" with 500RMS mono amp, and the other friend having two fo those same 15"s and two of those same amps.

So I'd buy a nice one, if you're just going to buy one. Or go cheap like I did.

Power akoustic? go with it... it's a great deal as far as I'm concerned, I'd jump on it but saving money up for my Rockford Fostgate subs, amps, and speakers ar Alpine...we'll see... but yeah jump on it....now heres a laugh for you...

wel everybody i decided im gettin 1 12" sub that can handle about 200 rms and mount it where the spare tire goes. i was goin to get the 12" sony xplod for about 70 bucks, but everybody sayin there horrible so im lookin for something else.any suggestions for a 12" under 120?

check ebay. but its risky..remember..AS IS can mean blown most of the time.

well... you could make one out of 1/8 inch plywood and cover it with the same color material thats in your car.... don't know if you can buy one from somewhere...
