Stupid question... I'm a noobie so my bad, first off. I'm the owner of a heavily modified 1996 Accord. I autocross. I want this car to become my daily driver and plan on a serious racecar, and as such, I want to go cheap, and I want to go oldskool.

I'm still in love with the Accord. I want a 1989 LXi hatchback, and I'm going all out on this one.

I'm retrofitting Civic suspension (TEIN or D2) and brakes (most likely Brembo Gran Tourismo), stripping the interior and dropping in a new engine.

I want to be the first...

JDM K20A Type-R in an 89 Accord, and modify it. I'll get into those details later, if you want them, but I'm looking at 240 to the wheels in an autocross / street race car. I want to go OEM or quality parts only... namely Mugen and Spoon...

I've just heard that Hasport dropped a K20 into a Civic, then Jackson Racing put a blower on it...

Anyone think a K20A can be crammed into an Accord?

Yes, but you'll probably have a heap of modifications $$$ to get it working.

If you do all the work yourself it could be cheap... if not then you may be better off with something else.

The Accord engine bay is just as big as the Civic bay if not bigger.

Mugen lip, side skirts (Kaminari, if I can't find any of the original Mugen stuff)

Mugen M12 rims (15x6, 100x4 lug)
Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires (205/50ZR15)
D2 Full Coilovers for 90-97 Accord, modified
90-00 Civic Wilwood Brake Upgrade, 6-pot front, 4-pot rear)

Fully stripped
Vinyl over fiberglass dashboard (modified to fit the following)
1998 Prelude Type-SH gauge cluster with matching Defi gauges
Bride seats
RSX Shift knob
P-SPEC Tuning custom short-shifter
Mugen shift boot
Mugen E-brake cover / boot
2004 S2000 steering wheel
6 point roll cage
APEXi V-AFC V2

ENGINE

JDM K20 (ITR) motor, tranny
OBDI conversion
Hondata ECU
Knife-edged crankshaft
13:1 compression pistons
TODA Racing titanium valve retainers
TODA Racing valve springs
TODA Racing StageII camshafts
TODA Racing Individual throttle bodies
TODA Racing Performance Head Gasket (Stock CR: 11.5:1 < 11.9:1)

Custom Axles
Race port and polish
Hasport Motor mounts
Unorthodox Racing SS Underdrive Pulley Kit

You really think Hasport is gonna make mounts for that? They won't even make B-series mounts and that's a much easier swap.

yeah, you're going to have to make your own mounts.

Hasport is in the development stage right now for K20->CRX mounts. Worst case, I can modify them.

Custom work being $10K to $20K? No way! I'll build the engine myself, but will need someone to fabricate the brackets to put the motor mounts in. Sure, I'll need custom axles and wire harnesses for the ECU and OBDIII->I conversion. Car, motor and mods included, I'm looking to drop $10,000 in to the car, and another $4,000 for labor.

They're done now. I think it'll be pretty tough to modify them otherwise people would be doing it all over the place. Not only that but they're $795.

I know this will be an expensive project, but for something Honda Tuning magazine would end up calling nostalgic or oldskool while retaining rights to modern day sports cars, I think it'd be well worth the investment for a straightup race car.
