View Full Version : stripped the first few threads, anything i can do?

the first 2 threads of my tierod ends are stripped in 1 or 2 spots, and now the new castle nut wont go on. is there anything i can do to correct this?(without buying a new one of course)

get the correct sized metric die and you should be able to use it to clean up the threads.

I've had good luck using a small triangular file to clean up threads when I don't have the correct sized die in situations like that. Of course having the right tool would be better.

There's a tool at Napa that is good for cleaning up threads quickly. It has a bunch of different types and sized thread cleaner grooves on it and you just go back and forth on the bolt to clean up the threads.

But the die would be the best but not always the cheapest.
