View Full Version : Got the Weber 32/36 DFAV!

Actually, it's a Holley Model 5210... lol, whatever, it's a 32/36 ;) It's got a 235 main jet in it (damn!) and a 271 secondary jet. Originally jetting for a 2.3L Chevy Vega. :)

Anyway, I'm going to order a few jets from ebay (thinking a 155, 160, 165 main, and 185,190,195 secondary)

What air corrector jets might you guys recommend? It would appear I have 2 180s right now... The accelerator pump jet is a 50, it looks like...

I'm going to get new gaskets. The needle seat/float are brand new, so I'm just going to clean the inside of the carb out (it's got this weird grey dust on a lot of it) and replace the jets with something a little closer to what the '88 Accord should be running.

I'm going to build an adapter plate to replace the EFE carb heater (it's FLORIDA. Doesn't really get cold here ;)) and I've got to figure out what to do about the throttle linkage... going to do more searching.

The car is totally stock right now, with the 2 driver's side cylinders both low compression (120 and 90, IIRC, from 150 in the other two), but I'm hoping that the new carb will let the damn car finally idle. LOL

Going to get hook up the ZT-2 wideband O2, as well, to see what I can make it idle and all at....

I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes. :)

So is it a holley or a weber.

271 ? I never knew the jets could come with a 1, usually it's goes up in incriments of 5.

Also I'm not used to seeing the Air Corrections that much smaller then the mains. In our case our air correction jets are larger then the mains. Hopefully a 180 is more powerful then I think it is, and that the rate of increase to the air correction is much smaller then the rate of the mains.

Stock weber use a smaller air correction in the secondary to increase the fuel flow to the secondary. But both main jets are set at 140.

You know the most important ones are the idle jets really and the accel pump in off the line throttle response... else you end up with that stumble.

Also having a good fuel pump helps.

It's a Holley 5210. It's a DFV style, though - the linkage is backwards, so I'll have to get creative with that ;)

I am going to get a new fuel pump, just to have a new one in there. The idle jets have a brass cap in there... gotta figure out how to get those out, too :(

Also, anyone have ANY info (pics would be nice :D) on an a/c idle solenoid, and an idle cutoff solenoid?

yeah, that carb is very simular to Weber since Holley had bought the rights from weber to produce the replica of their carb.
i have a website that has a picture of this carb in broken down pieces. you will be able to see where are all the jets and all.

I've got the Weber Haynes book - I've got the jets and all out... I'd like to know more of the idle solenoid, and idle cut off solenoid

are you talking about idle solenoid on the back of the stock carb, well you don't have to worry about that, since you are switching to diff carb.

if you want your AC running, you may want to ask Mike (a20a1) since i never had AC working on my carbed car, i didn't have to worry about it.

Nope... That's a mixture control solenoid, IIRC... I'm talking about an A/C idle control solenoid, so that the car doesn't stall when I turn on the Air Conditioning :)

Well you'll need the A/C solenoid and the A/C idle boost diaphragm to get the idle control function... even then, the spring rate on your carb may be too much for the spring inside the A/C diaphragm so that may need to be swapped out.

. You need a plate on the throttle linkage for the A/C adjustment screw to push against. The reason for the plate and not a direct connection to the throttle linkage is really for the A/C linkage to be independent of the throttle linkage while it is on the same throttle shaft.
. If it wasn't independent you'd get binding in the linkage when the throttle tries to open but the A/C can't rotate with the linkage so it keeps the throttle from opening.

I have no clue as to how you'd connect the A/C diaphragm to the weber/holley.

you best bet is to run with a slightly higher idle to compensate for A/C

Oh replace your intake manifold gasket when you have the stock carb off, that way you wont have to worry about it for a while.

No way man I'm not bitching either. I had it on my last motor after the original 3bbl bit the dust. It was jetted way too rich...for like 2.3 Vega instead of 1.8 Honda, and then we bought another one (tuned to 2.0L) to put on in place of DCOEs on the A20 swap. Whatever you do tune and jet it properly. Don't be like oh I need to over jet and run more fuel because it will just run like shit. A20A1s figures look good but you may want to get a fuel/air mixture gauge to keep an eye on it while your running it.

Our attempt was to actually make something smog legal in CA but with a motor swap and other mods it will never be highway ready anyway. Plus we did the DGV work alike to speed up the installation too. Come to think of it I don't want to talk about my car... :mad:

Can't you use the DGV base adapeter? They sell those, but it's like $50.

Does the holley use weber jets? You can buy 4cylinder jet kits, it should be cheaper then buying them individually.

We just bought the 2nd Holley DGV work alike already jetted for a 2.0L. We had to modify the bottom plate on the air filter, drill and re-tap the holes for the Holley. Not sure about linkage yet.

I can get the jets individually on ebay for $1.95 each, with $4.50 shipping for up to 15. I think that should be enough ;)

So about $15 for 6 jets, shipped. They've got main jets from #110 to #200, and idle jets from #45 to #80

I'm thinking I'll get -

#155, #160, #165, #175, #180, #185 for the mains.

I just have to find the air corrector jets, now...

Nice, Phrenology! That's pretty much what I'll be doing. I'm in NO way doing this for 'performance' - just drop dead reliability, and good mileage. I will have the wideband O2 on it, and will be getting it set to cruise with a nice A/F ratio.

Ordered the rebuild (gasket) kit today from Autozone. $19.99. Now I've got to build an adapter... need to find a chunk of aluminum, lol!

Ok, I've got the rebuild kit, the adapter plate is on it's way ($60 with gaskets/studs/everything, lol) -

Now, which jets should I go with?

I'm thinking I'll order -
#150, #160 x2, #170, #180, #190 Main Jets

#50, #55, #60, #65 Idle Jets

#175, #180 x2, #185, #190 Air Corrector Jets

So 15 jets for $35 shipped.

Sound like a good start, to get it running good - if not PERFECTLY tuned?

I found an interesting chart once that mapped out which jets affect which throttle position and cruising in a very easy to understand format. I'll see if I can find it again.

This is a throttle cable modification for a DGAV/Holley 5200 2bbl carb that I did for the 1.8L ES2 that 'phrenology' was running in his G2 Accord hatchback (before he melted it to molton slag and blew antifreeze out the carb).

I'm planning on doing a similar setup on the new Holley 5200 2bbl carb that I installed on his A20A3 with a A20A1 carb intake. The carb was a new, old-stock 1974 Pinto carb, which is jetted for a 2.0L L4.

I found that was the best way to get smooth linkage operation.
I used the Keihin throttle linkage on my 32/36.

Thats a neat looking adapter peice, how'd you make that?

For mine, I merged the keihin throttle shaft with the weber throttle shaft to use the linkage.

To make the conversion, I took of the factory main butterfly shaft nut off of the Holley 5300 carb, machined and tapped an aluminum 'spacer nut' (as you can see), threaded that onto the shaft (in place of the factory nut) and mounted the old throttle cable guide plate (which was trimmed to fit) from the original Honda carb onto the new spacer, using a short bolt and jam nut.

The throttle cable mount bracket was from the old carb too, just bent and drilled to fit.

As soon as I have the new Holly 5200 2bbl '74 Pinto carb connected on the A20A3 (as seen in the photos posted by phrenology) I'll put those up.

I didn't have my Accord crash course in cooling systems yet! :lol: (what's a thermostat? :rolleyes: )

To be more correct, I backed out the original Honda studs on the A20A1 carb manifold and filled the threaded holes with high-temp, aluminum-filled epoxy adhesive -- try just about any epoxy for metals -- and sand smooth after it cures.

You can then use the Holly 5200 phenolic spacer as a template and mark the manifold for the new holes that line up with the new carb. Drill and tap the holes. Note that I also 'ported' the manifold slighty at the base of the carb, as the secondary of the carb is larger than that of the manifold.

Use a tap that matches the thread pitch on the studs that you removed. I don't recall what the thread pitch (12, 10 x 1.5??) was other than it was metric -- check with a machinist or run a stud though a die that fits to find the right tap.

Once tapped, use epoxy or nylon tape on the threads to seal them, as the tapped holes encroach on the air flow areas. Twist them back in and your old A20A1 Honda manifold is ready for a Holley 2bbl carb -- no adapter plate needed.
