in the carbed airbox theres a little curved bracked that sits between the airfilter and the opening for air to come in, wouldn't it be better if it was removed? thought i would see what you guys thought.

i found a pic to illustrate what i'm talking about.
the pic is not mine one i found on the site since i do not have a digital cam.

That little thingy is there to divert the air.

If it wasnt there, the car would suck the air through that side of the filter, and it would get dirty faster. With the bracket, it forces the air around to the whole filter.

You could always do like the one in the picture and cut down the breather cover... makes the diverter pretty much moot.

Been considering something similar myself... dunno how it would affect some of the vacuum takeoffs on the outer area of the breather tho.

Actually, while we're on the subject... I have an old hoodscoop from something like a '73 Trans Am... used to look pretty wild in the hood of my '80 GLC, completely non-fucntional but glitzy, 100% pure rice ;) ... anyhoo, I'm thinking about sticking it in the hood of my '87 Accord hatchback (2.0 2bbl), opening up the stock breather as in the above pic and if necessary making some sort of custom shroud to "fit" the two together.

So, I'm wondering if there would be any particular advantage or disadvantage to this? Thinking it should greatly improve airflow, although I don't know if that's as big an advantage with the carb as with an FI system. Any potential serious disadvantages?

To me it seemed better with the air filter box cut open to expose the filter.

I just hacked together a carb since I sold my weber, I was missing a great many O-Rings. I hope it still runs.

Gotta plug a few vacuum ports. :)
