I am having a lot of problems with my 1989 accord lxi. I am going to school for automotive technology. My instructor wants to hook a scanner up to the car and i told him there is no diagnostic connector. He is convinced that there is . If ANYONE knows if there is a connector or could help in any way shape or form, it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Josh

What does this have to do with OBD 1? Your Accord is OBD 0 and there's no connector for diagnostic purposes. If you have a CEL, look under the driver seat. The ECU is there. You will see a little plastic cover that will open and the ECU will flash the code to you.

surprised-- even the domestic guys who OCCASIONALLY look under the hoodof my car (Also an 1989 LX-i) know that.... very funny, indeed

I recently discovered a wire harness with one black and one red wire
right underneath the steering column near the fuse box. What the hell is it for ? I was thinking maybe some kind of diagnostic connector ???

our cars are obd0 = pre obd = no diagnostic ports other than looking at the back of the ecu after a cel. :D

The wiring harness that Im talking about is coming out of the wiring harness that goes to the brake light switch. Im not saying it's a diagnostic connector.
Does anyone know what it is for ? It has a pink wire and a black wire with a plastic clip at the end. I can't find anything that it would plug up to though.

could it be a connector for additional brake lights? if you're towing something? My teg has an additional plug near the brake lights in the back... maybe its similar or related?

I had that on mine too. It's something to do with the clutch pedal. On the 89's i think i remember their being 2 switches. and the second connector is plugged into that.

The connector in question is for the clutch pedal, and goes to the cruise control (if the car has it).
