Thursday I noticed a real problem with my tranny, so I ended up jacking the car up friday morning ( my day off) and having a look under the car.
What I found was oil all over the passenger side halfshaft and area, and a nice crack in the trans housing. I guess the trans puked out all of the oil on the road and then ate itself up before I knew about it.

Needless to say, I swapped in my spare transmission out of my 86 carbed parts car (E2Q5 to A2Q6)
I had checked the 5th gear for wear and it looked pretty good, but it didn't prepare me for how much nicer a transmission in good shape feels. I'm pretty sure the A2Q6 was a rebuilt or replacement transmission, because it feels way 'tighter' than the old trans and even though the final drive ratio is lower I like it alot better. Not to mention that it will be better on gas, which these days is getting to be important.
Anyways, since this is going to become my winter beater while I look for something Rust-free to build into what I want, I'm not going to worry about the drop in performance. :dunno:
The other thing is that I didn't have to pay anything for it; you gotta love having your own parts cars... :bowrofl:
