Well tonight while i was fixing my horrid sunroof leak, i decided id snap a few pics of the process and, well, half way into it the UPS man came... :kekeke:

To start
http://users.4x4wh.com/4x4master/New/R.jpg
looks normal?
http://users.4x4wh.com/4x4master/New/R1.jpg
THINK AGAIN! constant trickle of water on passenger side, drips on the drivers side.

So out comes the sunroof
http://users.4x4wh.com/4x4master/New/R4.jpg
http://users.4x4wh.com/4x4master/New/R5.jpg

I didnt get a pic of it, but it ended up being a screw that connects the hinge into that little black plastic piece on the glass. Wasnt tight AT ALL, so the sunroof didnt have enough pressure to seal, put some thread lock on all the screws, then tightened everything up. No more leak.

After i got the headlights in:

i got too cold/tired/lazy to adjust them, but ill do that tomorrow... drove around with them ghetto adjusted for now, im satisfied with the output... well worth the $30!

Here are a couple more pics of the housings.

Ill be updating this thread with more and more pics as everything ive ordered gets here

Hope you paint that pacesetter before becomes rustsetter.

10-10-2005, 07:40 PM
no, im going to do it the day before i go to school to have my welding shop teacher weld it all in. Im def. gonna run around town with an open header a little before i do that though. Im also gonna make a vid/sound clip of it with the open header, then after i get the exhaust on :)

today i ordered all my exhaust pipe
1 180* mandrel bend
1 90* mandrel bend
2 4ft sticks of pipe

if i need more straight pipe i can always run to the local exhaust shop. Also, matt, did your pacesetter come with the header, downpipe, and another little "flex pipe" type thing? im thinking of cutting the extra piping off after the downpipe and just running a solid peice there with no cat/test pipe at all, would it work?

superaccord
10-10-2005, 07:53 PM
dont do that. Its part of the flex pipe. Most people all ready have problems with it breaking on them because its not an actual flex pipe. It has to have something to flex when you rev the motor.

halxi
10-10-2005, 07:57 PM
ill cut it out and use actual flex pipe... the little ball joint type thing doesnt make much sense to me.

I hope the UPS guy brought some paint too. :bowrofl: At least the roof was an easy fix. I've run open header for a day and let me tell it was loud as fuck with 1595 cc of fury. I can only imagine was a 2.0L would be like. Probably louder and deeper.

If i get a 3.0 or better this semester my dads going to pay to get my car repainted... err, help me repaint it.

Basically, he is going to pay for all materials (sand paper, paint stripper, paint, etc.) then we are going to prep it ourselves, then send it to my uncle to paint it. Giving me motivation to go to class and pay attention :bowrofl:

It would be nice if the UPS Man would bring me a pro painter that would do it for free though :ugh:

In other news... JDM Antenna switch came today, ill have pics of it in tomorrow (Gotta study for PSAT/ACT tonight, ugh)

well superaccord and i just spent almost 8 straight hours under my car, the front went smooth for the most part, minor hang ups here/there, but its all in and dropped now, looks sick, ill have pics up of that shortly. But the rear... ugh

the rear lower strut bushing that sits in the knuckle is RUSTED, the bolt RUSTED to the bushing, then the bushing RUSTED to the knuckle... tried cutting it off, pounding it, bending it, everything, NOTHING got done. So im going to trailer it home, send it to the local mechanic and say "heres all the parts, including bushings, etc. etc. fix it" Im so sick of fucking with it right now. It currently sits 30 miles from me undriveable because one of the struts only has a partial RUSTED bolt in it to hold it on the lower control arm.

So, heres the turning point. A.) Trailer it home, send it to the local mechanic, see what he can do and if he cant fix it then well... plan B.) Trailer it home, park it on the side of my house, find an SE-i, replace the control arms with NON RUSTED POS'S and have the nice new addition of rear discs...

Help guys, im sick of this shit. Everything i do to my car blows up in my face, tranny should of gone smooth, NOT, front suspension should of been really smooth, NOT, and now the rear suspension... whats next? fucking a i quit. :sadwave: :thumbdn:

1.6 front 1.7 rear is what it says off of ebay.

Last night we took a sawzall and got that bushing out and the strut out on one side, matt and jesse are going to work on it some today while im at work, maybe get it done.

halxi
10-15-2005, 05:29 PM
so i got my car back today :O :O :O big thanks to matt and jesse for working on it while i was at work. Rides nice, but the front is a little bouncy. Anybody have any ideas to fix this?

Also matt, on the way home i hit one MAJOR bump, bottomed the shit out of my front struts, drug the center of my car and everything... if youre ever going from 36east to 76east, right at that exit where it curves down and to the right, slow WWWAAAAAYYYYYY down, i hit it at 40 and it was horrid! :sadwave:

OK so here are a few pics... this is how you take care of buisness:

Went drivin to put the suspension to the test, went through the round abouts, my tires used to squeal like a mother going through it at 25, i ran through them at 30-32 and absolutly no tires squeal, and everything felt really tight.

wow that looks awesome! it's amazing what 1.5-2" will do to the appearance of your car (not to mention how it handles).

can't wait to see how your exhaust comes along. those headlights are pretty much what I bought for mine, and so far no leaks/cracks/problems.
the bulbs still look as good as they were when they were new.

halxi
10-16-2005, 09:09 AM
Im thinking of upgrading the bulbs to street glow ultra whites or somethin, my cousin has them in his jeep and they are really bright and white. I dont think ill have my exhaust done for the meet unless i find a test pipe ASAP. Also, im going to be wiring some xenon bulbs into that "rice bulb" location, then running that into my corners so it will be on with my running lights. Ill hopefully get started on that tonight, not sure though.
Day pics of the drop comming tonight :)

that's the kinda drop i'd like. not too low, but low enough that its noticeable. you notice any scraping with it lowered? here where i live the roads are shit, so like when i have 4 or 5 passengers in my car it scrapes bad, but just on the muffer under the exhaust tunnel. i think that drop looks great.

halxi
10-16-2005, 06:20 PM
no scraping yet, but i have bottomed out my front struts twice now :( our roads turn from asphalt to pavement/cement in several areas and there are HUGE bumps there, like parking lot speed bumps, so when you hit them it fucks shit up... i hate it.The largest number of passengers ever in my car... ONE. Period. I hate having mass amounts of people in my car, bugs the shit out of me. My new exhaust should be on shortly so ill see if any of that scrapes, if it does ill definatly let you know.

Thanks for the compliment, ive had my struts since late june, and i just got my springs like a week ago, im so excited that its lowered now. Now i just wanna get a new set of the stock hubcaps without any cracks or deep scratches, repaint them kind of a semi-gloss black maybe. Or i might redo them in the stock color.

10-16-2005, 06:21 PM
you hook up the city lights yet? i was thinking about putting white ones in mine and hooking it up the running lights.. the rainy season is gonna start soon and it'd be tight to have daytime running lights that werent headlights

halxi
10-16-2005, 06:44 PM
i want to, but ive already cross wired the orange part of my JDM side marker into the front part (removed the gray "dinger" box under my dash, appearntly it controlled the orange bulb in the corners) so im afraid of overloading that circut and frying fuses :sad2: im def. gonna be puttin the xenon bulbs in though when i decide how im going to hook it up, i bought the wire/crimps from my work today... just need to decide how im going to wire it.

Call me a rice if you want, but i kind of like how the front rides lower then the rear... it gives it a little more of an agressive stance, even if its not the best for function.

SteveDX89

im not going to waste my money on paint/body work

i can buy a mint coupe with lower miles, and appearntly better condition for half the price it would cost me to get this painted how i want... actually it would probably be more like 1/4 of the price if i include the body work my car needs

The largest number of passengers ever in my car... ONE. Period. I hate having mass amounts of people in my car, bugs the shit out of me.

FINALLY someone who understands what I feel! lol I absolute HATE having people in the back. I keep wanting to take the rear seats out and make a shelf or something so I really can't carry more than 1 extra person.

Btw, did I ever tell you about the paint shop in Ft. Carson? Bring your own paint, use their sanders, sand blasters, masking tape, etc etc etc.
Then use their equipment to spray your car (professional stuff, including respirators.)

I think they charge $10/day or so. That's what we'll be doing with Dan's car.

I'm more than willing to help you out with that, if you so choose.

halxi
10-17-2005, 03:22 PM
We could, but i think we'd need a FULL week to do it, sun up/sun down each day. Theres alot of little dings/dents and such i dont want them all out, but i want the major ones fixed for the most part, and we'd need to make a replacement panel for the rust in the rear corners.

Yea i hate having more then one other person in my car unless its someone that shares the same expierence/respect with cars as i do and knows how to treat it. Occasionally i have 2 people in my car but thats usually just to a movie or somethin.

my U bend came today, its just a TINY little thing, i may need to buy another 4-5ft stick from the local exhaust shop to get everything where i need it :(

i cant believe my U bend came, but my 90* didnt, thats crap! lol

i still need a test pipe too, or should i just order another res, and have the flanges on my cat cut off/welded onto that?

racerx
10-18-2005, 11:04 PM
i'd just get the test pipe. it'll be cheaper than having those flanges cut and welded. if you stuck with your old flanges, you'd still have rusting parts on your exhaust too. bleh. ;)

the cat-resonator-thing will also help with the sound of your exhaust.

Just remember you'll still need a flange for your cat-back section. make sure to pick one up that'll actually fit before you send off the parts for welding. and make sure you align the flange to the cat-replacement's flanges first. the first flange i bought looked like it would work, but it was slightly off. (found out the night before i had the exhaust welded)

how small is your U-bend?
this is all the materials i used for mine, plus 1 more straight section. i only used about 2 feet from the 2nd section too, if that.

halxi
10-19-2005, 06:52 AM
hrm yea, i see where i made my mistake now :uh:

i ordered a tight radius U bend so its alot smaller, and its 2.25" OUTSIDE diameter, so it slides into the muffler... could be a problem :(

Ill see what i can do though, if i have to ill ship this back and order a different peice thats going to fit right.

Also, where would i be able to find flanges? Should i just check the local exhaust shop?

The cost of welding isnt a problem, my welding shop teacher at school is going to do it all for FREE! :D :D

racerx
10-19-2005, 09:05 AM
all the piping should be 2.25 OD (outer diameter). The pipes should slide somewhat easily into the openings of the muffler and resonator. (and flange too).

What you should do (if you want perfection) is gently file away the inside lip of every pipe, so when it sits inside the mouth of the muffler and resonator, the 1/8" transition or so becomes a smooth transition. Did that make sense?

And make sure you use a permanent marker to align pipes and such.

And yes, your local shop should have an array of flanges.

Deadhead
10-19-2005, 09:23 AM
well, my 2' pipe slid right into my muffler, it's not a problem, but i guess if you to from 2.25' to 2'.... that might be a problem, but for the muffler, it's not big deal, actualy makes it easier to weld on too :P

halxi
10-19-2005, 02:39 PM
well yea i was thinkin it makes it easier to weld, and yes matt that made perfect sense lol ill probably do that tonight since its RAINING anyway! I was going to bolt up my header and everything tonight and cut out my old exhaust and get my new one in but nooo, dammit.

btw nate, the drop looks sweet. nice visual appeal while still remaining classy. good choices. i wish mine didn't look like a 4-wheeler...

Quinton, as far as window tint, sometimes you just need to start it with your fingernail and it just easily peels off. that's how the tint in Dan's new accord was.

any idea on what your gonna do when that happens? obviously your putting some money into this ride...gonna go find a decent jy a20 and clean it and rebuild it? or b series? turbo? anything fun?

halxi
10-24-2005, 08:42 PM
im leaning more towards a high comp N/A a20 that will hopefully put out around 250whp or more, but my goal is going to be 250hp

i know a decent amount about engines themselves, not alot about turbos. I figured id start with what im most knowledgable in (motor wise) and change it up. I understand the basics but i dont know how a X turn wheel or this or that in a turbo is going to help/hurt my performance.

I might look into a B series head that will bolt up to an a20, racerx put his b series head on top of an a20 and said it all matched so i might see where that goes.

unfortunatly i need a few major fix ups, all my brakes are pretty much shot, and i have a rust spot that gets worse every day so i really need to get that fixed. Alternator is going out, will probably die within a week after i finish my sub setup

EDIT: The b series head racerx matched up was out of his USDM B20A 91 4ws prelude. I believe he has a jdm b20 now

racerx
10-25-2005, 11:39 AM
it was the USDM B21A1. I have the B20A in there right now, but the heads are interchangeable, so any head off of these will fit:
B20A5
B20A7
B21A1
B20A

your car is looking better and better nate. Good work.

You should get these silver bulbs that light up amber like mine for the turn signals. It looks clear but when you turn them on, its amber. :D

racerx
10-25-2005, 12:13 PM
if you really want to go for 250whp, or even 250hp, I'd definately get a B-series head at the least.

But then again, if you're gonna do that, might as well just get the B20A, and rebuild it.

I'm about to rebuild mine (this weekend), so we'll see if I actually got all the right parts. ... :nervous:

11-16-2005, 10:05 PM
wow, that looks nice! but i have a question, would the harsh angles of the plumbing cause bad air flow? i mean it seems like the flow would just hit that last bend and , circle around a bit and then go back out. maybe im just dumb cuz im sorta a newbie when it comes to air flow, but its a respectable question no?

halxi
11-16-2005, 10:26 PM
that is a good question, and a question i asked myself...

we tested it, before, and after we put that last peice of pipe and the muffler on

to the feel of the hand, with the pipe just stopping at the axle, it had LESS pressure then whats comming out of the muffler now. Weird i know, im thinking about cutting that last section out, and rotating the rear of my muffler down a little, then welding it back together, so its not at such a harsh angle

Magny
11-16-2005, 11:53 PM
Ummm.....do some of you guys run with the resonator on or off??? IMO when I got the stock mufler from the junk yard and went to go get it installed at the shop, they said it is better without the resonator. Don't know what he was talkin about until I noticed a difference from when I had the stock muffler, and the aftermarket one I had, to the stock muffler I have now without the resonator. It seems there is some kind of resistance in the resonator, cause now my car runs hella better now than it has ever. Thinkin of getting another aftermarket muffler so I can rid the baffles of the stock muffler and see what the outcome is. I'll try and take some pics tomorrow to show what I mean. Basically, now, in order for me to change my cat on my car, I have to remove the whole rear half of the exhaust system and rerun pipes lol. The straight pipe is welded on my cat, and the new piece of pipe the guy put in is welded to the back half, so basically one whole complete system now lol. But I don't know what increase of numbers I have gained, but I can tell from personal experience of driving my car, it does feel a whole lot quicker than before. Also I have adjusted my valve clearances to stock reccomendations, andI think that what is helping or in otherwords making it feel like there is a change. cause when I went to go and check my clearances, they were hella out of spec. basically it was lower than the lowest recomended level. so what I did was used the gauge to be closest to the max rec. and tightened it and rechecked. doing this made me think, since I cant really hold the screw from going down, I'll just tighten it and see if it still within specs.. I had the intake adjusted to .009 and the exhaust to .014, and when i tightened it down it went to .007 on the intake and .012 on the exhaust. i had a little resistance on both markings but when i dropped one gauge, it was loose as crazy so I know it is something like .0065 and .0115, but still within range of the max. anyways, I can't really prove it and can't really prove the power increase, but I know by personal experience that in feeling I feel the increase, just don't physically see it. Just wish I had dynoed it before I did the adjustment. Oh and when i did the check before I did the adjustment, I couldn't get the smallest, flimsiest gauge to slide under. I think they were resting on the valve ends the whole time.

Yeah yeah I know, I will be expecting flamings, but like I said, I can't prove it. Plus I feel like I brought 2 tpoics into this lol, but I reread the whole thing I typed up, it flows into one another if you really think about it.

we tested it, before, and after we put that last peice of pipe and the muffler on

Weird i know, im thinking about cutting that last section out, and rotating the rear of my muffler down a little, then welding it back together, so its not at such a harsh angle

That would make sense, actually. The gases are more or less free flowing up until the axle, so there's not much pressure inside the pipe.

However, add an agressive bend like that, and you get gases bouncing back and forth, creating more pressure inside the tube. When it finally gets out the back, there's more force from the exhaust gases because there's more pressure inside the pipe.

More pressure in the pipe means it's harder for the engine to push gases out.

Although I'm sure you'll correct that with another mandrel bent piece, the setup the way it currently sits is far superior to your stock exhaust.
If you remove the cat, and any kind of resistance in any muffler or resonator, you've got total free flow. With this bend, you've only reduced it a little bit.

So it's not performing at 100%, but it's still performing a heck of a lot better than stock.

oh shiza! sounds like a brake line leak. check the hose, maybe it's trickling down into the drum. otherwise, check the piston itselff inside the drum. it might need to be rebuilt...
