how do I change the manual trans oil? and what do I change it with? I am STILL swaping my CV shafts and I have just gotten to the point where i need to pull the shafts out. I need to drain the oil so it doesn't go every where. also I remember alittle while back when I was asking questions about the CV shafts someone told me to replace a seal where the shaft meets the trans.. does any one know what this seal is called and where can i find it? autozone has no idea what i am talking about when i asked them so more info would be helpful...

thanks

To drain the trans, you'll see a bolt/plug sticking out that has a square hole in the head to put a 3/8" extension. Just put the extension in there and pull. To fill, there is a plug up farther on the trans case. It has a normal hex head. The seal you're talking about is not required to be changed but it's probably a good idea. That is associated with the differential so you might be able to find something by looking for that.

autozone's PCs suck. Go to Discount where they have pictures
Ask them for the transmission's axle seals
you can go to www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and print up a pic

You drain the trans through a bolt on the side, the head will fit perfectly to your 3/8 ratchet

I refill it through the top, there's a device with the speedo cable and 2 power steering hoses below the dogbone engine mount. Take out the 10mm bolt and then rotate the unit slightly side to side as you pull up. Add 2.5 qts

auto zone or advanced auto don't sell the seals! you have to go to NAPA for then there the shaft seals one side is 15.99 (driver)the other side is 6.99(passanger)

5w30....hmmm..isn't that a little thin...I'd just use 80w Gear Oil

also the oil is 2.5 for a drain and fill

shop book says

use only SAE30, 10w-30, 10W-40, or 20W-40 weight oil rated SE or SF grade.

10-30 or 10-40 would be the better choice.

I have been told to use nothing but Honda manual tranny oil!!!!!
Similar to if you don't use the Honda power steering fluid....eats up seals, ect.
And the Honda stuff is pretty inexpensive.
