coolant recovery bottle

My bottle is so messed up on the inside that I can't see the water level from above any more. Anyone had any luck with cleaning these things? I know up here in the NE we use some kind of magic stuff you put in your dishwashers when they get rusty-like on the inside. Maybe I can remove my overflow bottle and flush it with that. As far as getting the bottle out, do you take out the battery and tray and get to it that way, or from below somehow?

the blot(s) to remove the battery tray is under the battery.

I think the can slides out but it may be bolted, I know my old one had green sludge in it.

i unbolted mine and hit it with degreaser and a pressure washer, I can still see it.
If anything just adapt one from a newer car, all it has to do is hold water

<edit> also make sure you get it from a car with a cap on the radiator like ours, there are some carsd without caps <edit>
