Popping and loses power above 5000 rpm

Could someone tell me why my 87 LXi startspopping and loses power above 5000 rpm. It idles find and power is good to that point but then it sputters and pops. I'm also gettin a code 12 from my ECU, should I clean the EGR or just replace it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Replace the EGR. Get a new distributor cap and rotor, also try plugs and plug wires. Are you getting enough fuel? Have you checked your timing? I've seen cars not run at all and only need a fuel filter. If none of that works then you may need a distributor. I know I just mentioned alot, do you have any other info?

mostly it is your EGR problem. fix that and you sould be OK.

Power Slot 89 SEi disc (slotted & dimpled F+R)
Gransort brake pads
G-stop Stainless steel brakelines
TENZO Mean-6 17" wheels w/Hankook tires
Pacesetter header ( maybe a catco converter) i haven't decided in the muffler yet...

I get a similar problem with my carb, ill keep posted in here.

However, I dont have my EGR conneccted whatsoever. Does the popping stop at all after say 5500 and itll keep going?
