well thats lame, the title is for accords. it even has like a konigsegg or some other ridiculously expensive exotic on the picture, you;d think he'd at least be selling CAR taillights..

hate to break it to ya guys, but the 88-89 tails will not fit the 86-87 unless you do minor drilling to the bracket to get the right bolt locations. I had to replace my driver side tail housing cause the original I had when i first bought it was cracked open. when I placed an order for the 87 housing, they gave me an 88 by mistake. drove around with it on for a while, but couldn't put it on without doing the minor modification. so now since i have the right part on, you can still notice the modification i had made to fit the 88 on that one side. but then again, we will do just about anything to get the parts we want right lol. so yeah minor modification to the original bolt patterns will need to be made for guys with the 86-87 models.

It says 88-89 not 86-89.

Those are bad ass. I wish that they did a center cection too, cause that won't match.:sad2:
BTW........All sedan lights will fit All years. I have an 86 and I have 89 tail lights on it, bolted up with no mods.

what are you talking about? i've swapped between 87 (88 is the same as 87) and 89 taillights so many times and they are exactly the same except the lenses outside. maybe you are mistaking between coupe and sedan? cus the coupe tails are taller height cus of the extra black plastic piece at the bottom whereas the sedans are shorter height since the trunk frame has a bigger metal piece right under the tails between the rear bumper. point is, the taillights are interchangeable so long as you keep it sedan - sedan, coupe - coupe, hatch - hatch....cus each trim is different from the front fender back. the only things similar between the three are everything in front of the cab. coupe and hatch are the same up to the front doors though, obviously.

Magny
11-06-2005, 07:32 PM
Nah, ordered the 87 sedan tails and got the 88 sedans instead. went to go and put them on, was kinda akward cause one side went in no problem, and the other refused. I dunno. mabey it was a defective part i guess. but thats what happened to me.

ICEMAN707
11-06-2005, 08:11 PM
hmm you said the original got busted right? maybe the previous owner backed it to something and not only the taillight broke but maybe the housing is no longer straight. or like you said, you got a defective replacement.

Magny
11-06-2005, 09:28 PM
well you could be right about the bracket not being straigt, haven't really looked into it, just wanted to get another taillight housing before the cops started busting my balls about it when it was like that. but this was like over 3 years ago so, i dunno.

i wished also that they made matching center taillight trunk sections, or maybe they just forgot to make them cus they make the center sections for civics. but i think the center sections are easy to mod to match those custom tails. the center sections are already red and white mostly. just paint the yellow part around the reverse lights black or a bright silver.

11-08-2005, 12:52 PM
Ebay is going to be the last place to find any aftermarket stuff it looks like. I can't beleive the pages of stuff listed on there for such an old car.

The lights look cool. Yeah, too bad they don't come with the center peice. I cold imagine what the price would be for them then.

Aftermarket taillights for the 3g, I thought I'd never see the day. Those look good, someone just needs to tell them that they need to start making the inner ones as well. I think the problem is that the outer ones was already being made as stock replacements so they just had to change the lense color, but the inner ones was never made as replacement parts. They would have to make those from scratch.

crazykamper
11-08-2005, 02:38 PM
i would love to have them either way, i would just disconect somehow my inner ones and get rid of them some way.... jk. that would be kinda wierd, but at the same time kinda kool.

The inner ones are very easy to do. Just take the center piece off of the car,use a heat gun arund the edges of the light to loosen the glue, trace the orange reflector part onto a piece of paper and once you have the lights off of the frame use a table saw and cut the light straight down the center and just trace the outline of the orange reflector that you traced earlier onto a sheet of plexiglass 1/8 inch thick and do the same to the light cover stuff. Glue it together with some acrylic glue let it dry and you are done. I just made some clear/red tails for my hatch I'll post pics up this weekend.

smufguy
11-08-2005, 08:34 PM
why is the image of the accord flipped? its kinda weird looking at the muffler on the other side. Well, without the center pieces, i think it will look stupid.

They definetly look awesome. I always wanted red/clear lights...

I'm pretty sure they're made by TYC (or maybe APC)

They actually do look exactly like the older carolla lights, i saw one yesturday, and i remembered what someone else said. but either way. i would for sure get them, if i had the money that is. i would get them regardless the price if they came with the center pieces too.

Lol

I didn't send them an email this year. It was only a matter of time until they realise that they only had to change the plastic color to offer some styling for our cars.

Without the center trunk piece, these are useless IMO. With a shaved trunk, it would look like an older Corolla as well.

Just got the lights and I'm a little miffed: one of the lights is cracked big time. I emailed the seller so we'll see how good he is about exchanging defective products. Otherwise, the quality is just OK; seal has large gaps on the bottom and doesn't look thoroughly glued on top either.

It's not fair he is selling 4gee tails for half the price and with center sections:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-93-HONDA-ACCORD-4DR-ALL-RED-HALO-ALTEZZA-TAIL-LIGHTS_W0QQitemZ8014434657QQcategoryZ33716QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem
But I think it's not his fault. It depends on the manufacturer he gets the tails from. But at $95 for a set of tails for our cars, it's a bargain considering how much a dealer would rape you for a brand new set of OEM ones. I just hope those aftermarket ones are OEM quality if not better.

He emd me w/ instructions to contact UPS the day after I told him they were broken. UPS picked up the lights on the 18th (?) No word yet, but I'll cut 'em some slack due to the holiday.

Looks to me like they are altered stock tail lights, so they are NO LONGER DOT LEGAL. In the 808, I would get a ticket everytime I passed a blue & white. So for me, it's worthless, absolutely worthless.

Plus here we have something called recon for vehicles that are modified (dropped, rims, etc.). I could never get my recon w/ those tail lights.

PM me, if we ever get something DOT legal.

I hope everyone else has better luck w/ the cops elsewhere.

Peace.

they actually look pretty good considering there has never been anything made for the car. They definitely need to make the center section though...

Here are the ebay red/clear tails. Buyer beware: the first set the seller sent me was cracked. It took about a month to get a replacement set, which is in good condition. Everything fits fine, easy to put on, etc.
I'll take daytime pics when I get a chance.

Why are the inner lights a different color?

The inner lights are stock.

speaking of which, why dont you just clear them and the stock centers, and then paint them the same color. That'd look good

I'll be working on the centers later. I haven't decided whether to make them clear or darker, leaning toward darker to match the car. One thing at a time, lol.

The inner lights are stock.

So the red plastic doesn't match up with the stock red plastic? That stinks. Why don't they just start using the right colored plastic?

PS: The newer lights look a lot cleaner and nicer than the original ones, I just don't get why they don't match.

They dont match because one is nearly 20 years old, and the other is a month or two old. Plastic changes colour over time....

They look cleaner because they're newer.

And the company that sells them is dodgy and lazy - and didn't make the inner two lights too.

Lazy bastards.

if you were to complete black out the centers it would look as if youve shaved the truck wich i dont think would look bat at all
btw i think you should get some kind of red bulb or something cause it look a little more clear than red, but that might just be the picture, they look pretty good though

ps: you have the same tip as i do :kekeke:

looking at how the light actually refracts thru the aftermarket lens, i pretty much have to say that they just suck. Its a lot cleaner to paint the whole stock tails Candy red rather than buy this damn housing. I am very disappointed with the finish.

Yeah this is definetly not too bad looking but the red part should be darker. It's not that the OEM lights changed color, it's because the newer one isn't as good as the OEM one. Maybe using a red bulb would give better results.

hmm got any pics of that car? sounds interesting.

Yeah it looks good. He is waiting for a replacment set of clear/red tails. After he gets them I'll post pics of his and mine.

The lighting does look a little weird. Did you use the ordinary or colored bulbs?

I think it would look pretty good if they company just made the center piece.

probley the inner lights use a higher amount of red coloring in the stock lights than aftermarket which is going to be lower quality. i've notice this on a lot of aftermarket tails. they will tend to shine orangeish with clear bulbs, unless you use a red bulb or tint the lense.

How hard is it to cover the inner two lights with either sheet metal, or just black them out (given you have a black car..)

I figure they'd look alot better with red lights in the red brake part, instead of that orangey tint they got going on now..

Heres some pics of my old tails. I painted all the yellow parts black. So i think that would look badass on the centers...just leave the back up lights clear and spray the yellow black....

Here are some daylight pics. I notice more of a difference between old and new in the shade. I like mattphi's idea and might do that, too, and keep the clears because they're so different. I think the clears tie in well w/ the darker body color, wheels and clear fronts.
