has anyone found a source for the rear wheel bearings by themselves?
they say you can't buy them apart from the hub,but it is a seperate bearing that can be pressed out. I had one lock up on me today going to get lunch from work, had to go all the way home at like ten miles an hour, because the wheel kept wanting to lock up and drag. luckily i had a spare set of hubs that had only 160000 miles on them, they came from an 89 lxi hatch. I wonder if they improved them in 89 vs. the 86 ones? I would like to replace the bearings in the original ones for a set of spares. anyway here are a few pictures. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/moultriemanicmechanic/brakejob001.jpg

cathy helping work on the opposite side, after we discover the side we just replaced wasn't the main problem

My source is for the whole hub, also. Don't know where to get just the bearing. I could sell you one for $66.00+shipping.

well i fixed it already,I was just going to try and rebuild the original hubs,so i would have a set of spares,I need to get another set of spares to replace the spares that are now regular parts. next front wheel bearings,in the continuing saga, will i need to replace every single part on my three G?

abused? body work is not abuse. someone driving a three g down the street with the cv axles clicking, the lights propped open, belching smoke, and leaking a puddle of oil at every stop sign, now thats abuse. :sad2: just for a note, this little spot under the trim,is the last area on the car that needs metal work, just like monster garage-DONE!!!

the dent in the quarter panel where you see the primer was just fixed by my wife, that panel was all dented in,there is almost no filler in that panel,it's all metal work. next step is primer.

There should be a number printed on the bearing.

You could go to a bearing retailer and I'm sure he will be able to help you with those.

i ran into this problem once...i smacked a curb with the rear wheel, replaced control arm...it took 6000 miles for the bearing to actually make noise which would only occur in hard turns. before shelling out only 40$ to replace the bearing i took the old one apart greased it and tightened to spec... still works fine.

and i found out my dealership buddy routinely does this.

but in your case i'd just replace the bearing especially if the races look rough. you DON'T need the whole hub!

NSK is a brand of bearings that Honda uses. It is a Japaneese company and the same brand I got for the fronts.

well the ones from the lxi worked fine, actually better then fine, they must have been dragging,it's like i took off the emergency brake or something. I'll check with bearings and drives to see if they can order the bearings.
