I just found in the paper this morning, that there is a 1988 Accord LX-i in decent condition, but has a blown camshaft. They're wanting $295. Do you guys think I should go ahead and get it? I had an 84 Prelude and since then have been addicted to Hondas.

If the body is in good shape go ahead and get it since you can just rebuild the engin or get one at a junk yard and be good to go.

if you got the time and the tools....go for it!

if the body is in great shape...then even better. the problem is that it could have more engine problems then just a crank.....so it might be a good engine swap or rebuild project. if you got the time and money. dont dig a hole you cant get out of.

damn not bad for $295 bro good score-but I would have that head rebuilt if the camshaft broke i bet it has more dmg than that

It does seem to be in really good shape. I would geit it.

However, if the camshaft itself broke, there is something wrong, cams do not break during normal engine operation. In fact, the timing belt would skip a tooth or break before the cam does I'm pretty sure.

hmm, that's an interesting question. I guess it is always possible, and the mechanic they brought it to didn't know about the pin.

Good find, it looks like you might have found and SE-i or and LX-i with all the options. YOu have the special steering wheel and tape deck holder. Check and see if it has rear disk or not. if so you really lucked out on that find.

if it broke a cam it was probably ran low or out of oil... depends how good the body is

we were comming home with it and a drunk driver slammed into the vehicle I was driving and the accord being towed behind it.

i'm ok, got a little glass in my face. but the most depressing thing is I find a good deal and somebody messes it up. the sad thing is that honda was going to be the nicest car I've ever owned (the only one I ever owned without wreck damage and with good paint). the front driver fender, headlight assembly, wheel, and door are messed up, so once again I can't have a perfect looking car :(

Looks like its time for you to go to the junkyard for parts and start rebuilding.

heh, looks to me like it's time for that drunk SOBs insurance to fix my car. either that or they can deal with three seperate injury lawsuits.
