Just finished putting in Justin's rear upper strut bar, had the lower one on already. I'm doing one at a time to see/feel the difference. Big difference. I noticed after I put in the lower rear bar tracking was much more communicative, less slop, tighter feel. I didn't feel as much of a difference after putting in the upper rear until taking higher-speed turns. At higher speeds, I felt the upper provided more stability and feedback without slop. Once again, the car just felt tighter so I had much more confidence going into a turn faster because I wasn't afraid of losing my line. Turn-in tightness isn't as noticeable as the stability midturn, which is much better than w/out the bars. Trailbraking is much easier because the backend isn't bouncing all over the place and it feels like movement is isolated in one plane a lot more. Overall I'm very happy with how they feel and can't wait to feel what the front bars will do ...... BTW, I had these powdercoated myself.

lower tie bar. It was a bitch to put the lower control arm back on. It wouldn't line up about 1 mm and I had to get help from the local tire shop by having a guy move the arms w/ a pry bar while I screwed the bolt back in.

OK, I put in the other lower rear tie bar, the inner one that bends around the gas tank, after driving for awhile with just the one lower and upper strut bar. The second lower does make a difference: steering feels quicker, there's more feedback, and handling in general feels more precise. Now to install the front upper and lower.......
BTW, I'm running revalved Bilsteins, Suspension Techniques 1'' lowering springs and ST anti-sway bars front and rear. I never would have thought this car would handle as well as it does.
So far I'm VERY pleased w/ these bars; for $200 I think these are the best performance bang for buck I've spent. Nice work Justin! I'm having almost as much fun driving this car in the twisties as when I'm on my motorcycle. That's saying a lot.
.
Both rear lower tie bars installed, powder coated in silver by me ...... another pic of the upper rear bar.

OK, here are pics of the FRONT bars from Justin. I did have problems putting on the upper front, as in clearance problems. The bar did not clear the intake manifold so I had to leave the nuts on the upper shock mount in place in order to have a bit of clearance. Because of that the nuts on top aren't all the way on. I'm not real happy about that, but I am happy about the way the car handles with these installed. I can feel a great difference in handling, so it's worth it.
When I just had the rears installed, the car did oversteer (stiffer rear=oversteer). That actually felt kind of good initiating turns, but made the steering feel a little too easy, almost the way too much power steering assist feels like on some cars. Now the steering feels more neutral and stable, more direct tracking. Once again, no slop in handling, better tracking, which makes me able to take corners at VERY much faster speed. Very impressive. Thanks again, Justin.
The lower fronts are a 3-piece design. I'm a little worried about having reduced ground clearance, but haven't hit anything ... so far.:hs:

Here's how tight the clearance is ... w/ retaining the nuts on the shock mount below the strut bar mounting plate. (see the space below the plate)

Ditto. My DC Sports front upper bar can't do it all. Those rear bars look great. I want some.

hey paso..you have st sway bars right?? how does those feel before you install all those bars??

HondaBoy
12-16-2005, 04:36 PM
man, all those look really good. i would probley not be able to use the front lower bars because here where i live bottoming out is something you have to live with unless you have a truck due to our crappy streets in some areas.

The ST anti-sway bars made a big difference over the stock bars, a lot less leaning from side to side, probably more of a difference than the strut/tie bars. It's like the strut/tie bars are the icing on the cake.

Hey paso, judging from your pics, you removed your plastic skid plate right? I've been debating on removing mine, it's not like I plan to lower my car anyway, and I do plan on getting some of those bars.

I can vouch for that. The sway bars change the car's reactions to everything. It's amazing. Worth every penny.

It's funny is that DC sports bar is a bunch of garbage. There was a test, (i'll try and find it) where the dc sports bar just flexs with the chassis and doesn't do shit on the integra DC chassis. Similar design with the bar and the holes. -_-

do you have any more/bigger pics of the front installation? it looks like it reduces underbody clearance.. is that the case?

the reason they're low is to allow for bigger exhaust and some other shit, i remember him saying something about auto trannies or something lol. i dont think paso has had any problems with them scraping or anything, you would have to drive slower than usual over bumps and driveways thats for sure....but who of us here doesnt already do that? :D

is pasos car lowerd? yeah i was thinking of that too cuz on 101 there is a dip where the car bounces crazy and i would hate to get the bar scratched....also i would have to take my front air dam off right?

mkymonkey
09-17-2006, 11:33 AM
i dunno about the air damn but i do know that paso's car is lowered, just search his name to find out on what cuz i dont know. and why would you worry about it getting scratched? its under the car! its bound to at one point or another. plus worry more about bending it or getting those bolts to snap off lol

^--X2 . and I already have an issue with my chassis being to close to the ground. I would think that the bar would sit pretty close to the ground on a decent drop. It looks like he used some sterdy metal, I dont beleive a couple of encounters with the ground will ruin the bar.

EricW
09-17-2006, 01:25 PM
I'm lowered about 2" on ground controls and konis and I have bottomed out the front bar several times before i had to re-weld it, the washers that the bolts go thru to the frame started to rip off. :beat: I have fixed that problem and I have bottom out a few times since then but it hasn't moved any. I also had to cut the legs that go towards the front of the car off since they didn't fit quite right, but I'm going to weld them back on when i get some time.

I can't even drive over a coke can laying down on its side in the road. I also have to drive with one tire on the white line when there are large ruts in the road or else i get:Owned: . Although some of my friends where behind me one night and i didn't see a rut and they said i was throwing sparks out behind me.:D

hmm so the front lower tie bar definitely does reduce clearance.. and do you have to remove the front air damn for sure?

I dont understand why you would have to remove the front airdamn? There us no reason for that.

I think he may be talking about the splash guard.

even then, I dont see that getting in the way. Dosent the splash guard bolt on around the bumper? The tie chassis bar bolt on behind that.
