I am in the middle of trying to finish all my interior mods right now and finally get it done. Ive been wanting to do this one for a while. I added a 7" widescreen lcd screen to the center console. It was a lot of work trying to epoxy and fibeglass the cassette holder into a lcd holder but well worth it.

I was going for a stock look for the screen, like it came from the dealer this way.

Tell me what you guys think

well I'm not the first and wont be the last to do this. On the third gen if you dont get a flip out screen the console is the only place to monut a screen if you want it in the front.

I remmeber at least three people posting pictures of screens in the console. One had a wooden cloth covered piece made to fit in where the center console would be with lik a 5 or 6" lcd. The other two used like a 7" screen also and fiberglassed it into the center console without using the tape holder section.

I myself have a dvd changer and a tv tuner in the car. Comes in handy for the hurricane caused power outages:lol:

And as far as fiberglass just get yourself some resin and experiment. Oh and it always helps to read the directions. I have found that reading the directions fully wil help you lots.

I had to tilt the screen back some so it would be at the correct angle to wiew from the front seats. All and all Im satisfied with this piece. Its a nice little toy to play with.:)

What does it control? I assume its not touch screen, if not, what do you use it for? I assume its not a carputer system seeing the headunit still in there, what feeds it a signal just the dvd player?

it displays either dvd movies or cd changer information when playing a cd from the dvd changer.

It also has a tv tuner hooked up to it so I can pick up local broadcast signals. Around here i can pick up about 13 stations clearly.

No nifty carputer or navi system here just entertainment.:)

Looks pro to me. If I ever get around to installing a LCD, that was the place I imagined it to go. Mount it anywhere else in the dash and you'll have to start cutting and fiberglassing the dash.
I have been wondering though, how good is the visibility of the LCD screen in that position, when sitting straight up and normal in the front seat?

hmm, looks like a lot of us have had that same idea. i wanted to put a screen in the same place. keeps it below the dash line so its technically legal. looks good.

Get yourself a NES and Atari 2600 and you're all set

I'll do that right after I put an offset stripe on top of the car from front to back and add a 6" chrome tip.

The viewing angle is actually good. If you look at the second picture notice how the screen is tilted back at the top so the screen faces in a more upward direction? thats what I had to figure out before I made anything. If you mount the screen at the same angle as the center console cassette holder, than the viewing angle wont be that good and it will look a little dark to you. tilt it back just a little bit and no problems. well other than if your driving you'll brake your neck trying to look at the screen, but your not supposed to watch tv whle you drive.:)

thanks for all the positive comments guys. if you plan on installing a screen somewhere in the dash the center console is definately the way to go.

DVD's were not even invented until the mid-90s, so there's no way the DVD player could be OEM.

Peace.

Key word there being LIKE, referring to fit and finish not a dealer available option that was never installed.

Everyone knows when dvd's came out so they must also be referring to FIT AND FINISH.

again thanks for the positive comments.

I LIKE IT!. and i dont say that a lot about cars (like it matters to you). but good job. just dont put anymore. like those "pimped" out scions. man those things piss me off. just because the thing has four headrests, a roof, and sun visors does not mean you have to put a monitor in each one. but i like what you did, especially cuz its kinda hidden and looks like it would be used more for a navigation system than anything else. GOOD WORK!

Nice work. But what did you have to epoxy and fiberglass. Looks like it just fit in there really nice.

I had to epoxy the headrest shroud for the lcd to thecassete holder. then I had to cut plastic pieces to fit the shape of all the openings and epoxy those also. When it was dry I came back with the fiberglass jelly and filled in and sanded. I repeated that step many times.
