Carb problems

Hi Im new to the team, I currently own a 88 accord lx...it runs perfect nice and smooth the one problem Is the car will rev at around 2500rpm while its in parking gear...then once I put it in drive gear it'll go down to about 1500rpm which is not bad but the problem is when its time to shut the engine off it chokes and rattles and doesnt turn off because of the high reving, therefore I have to turn the car off in drive gear, can anyone help or give advice.......~stephan

Probably the choke opener diaphragm is dead. Also, check the Diaphragm for the Charcoal Canister Vent, the Hot Air Control Valve Diaphragm, and the Vacuum Advance. They are all common failures that cause this symptom. You should check your vacuum hoses too, as they will aggrevate the problem. If all of the diaphragms hold vacuum, check the resistance of the choke heater.
