It's easy to replace the bushing in the control arm. Use the propane torch to burn away the rubber (smells very bad and develops a lot of smoke this way) or use a sharp flathead screwdriver and a hammer to get the rubber out. When the rubber is removed you take a hacksaw, loosen the blade in one end of the saw and put it through the hole of the old bushing and then cut through the outer collar of the old bushing. You can then tap out the collar with a hammer. To put in the new bushing you need a socket that fits on top of the outer collar of the new bushing, clean the hole in control arm and slightly grease the bore. Now you can hammer in your new bushing by hammering on the socket or you can press it together using a vise.
It doesnt require alot of tools.

I like Mr. R's tools, that's a nice snap-on torque wrench!
Your picture with all the parts spread out is cool! Name a part, lol
What integra it that strut from, it looks like it will provide quite a bit of a drop. Did you try it on?

Be careful not to use too thick a layer of that regular bondo since it will sink in a bit over time.
You can get a type of bondo that is much harder almost like metal that will not sink.

ya the high end tools are good....... for multiple use...

that torqe rench is a waste if you only use it once in a blue moon.......

but having a digital torqe rench gee that would certanly be sweet........ has a expensive one thats about 20 yers old.... snap on make good gear.. if you break a snap on socket and they will replace it for free... only thing is ya gota find their dealer........

theres a big difrence from the 2$ vice grip and the 50$ vice grip...

many trades plp have 10k esaly in tools in their tool box....... my dad does.... lol some days he has 100k in tools in the trunk of the 3gee.... special calibration tools that is......

anyhow
nice clutch lol

Shitty the Internet was down for a few days at my place! what's funny is that I work for the bloody company as tech support!! lol I'm ok with it I know shit happens ... anyway... I've got some news I tell ya!

First Thank you Greatdane for your advice had I read it sooner I may have taken it...now thinking about it I probably still could as right now both lower control arms are on the floor of the shop...

:::Rant::::

...the STUPID thing about working on our beloved cars is that some of the suspension hasn't been removed for almost 20 years and I have found out the hard way on many occasions that it weilds hours of unforeseen work and aggravation!! Case in point both lower control arms had the bushing rust to the bolt and now require new bushings...(which may or may not be as hard as I think to do myself)...While removing the lower control arm out of the car I BROKE the head of the bolt that holds it to the frame of the car...like give me a fu<kin break...

I managed ok with that problem by bending the bracket a little, sliding the control arm over a little, cut the bolt with a hack saw on the inside and after i got the control arm free I drenched what was left of the bolt several times with Liquid Wrench and was able to unscrew it with vice grips WHEW!

I spent some time putting my newly upholstered ceiling and passenger side trim!!! LOOKS AWSOME if I do say so myself!!

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00884s.jpg

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00881s.jpg

I admit I have flaws and I'm not afraid to show them...I am a first timer. I will fix all these issues one day by re doing the areas but not right now.

I also painted some of the other interior pieces... it's nice because if I don't like gloss black or something happens to the finish these are easy to replace or fix :) .

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00877s.jpg

I picked up my Flywheel today as I had it lightened 3 pounds and resurfaced. I paid A bit more then I wanted as I wanted about 5 pounds off but they could only go 3 for me.

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00876s.jpg

A little surface rust won't hurt anything. :-)

I did the Prelude adjustable upper control arms conversion to fix my camber issues :-) :-)

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00874s.jpg
Left Prelude control arm converted to fit the Accord, Center Accord normal, Right Prelude normal.

I finished installing all my lowering suspension I believe My drop is 2 to 2.5 Inches I'm not sure because I grabbed the springs and shocks off a 91 Integra (http://3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38116)

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00869s.jpg

Hey all :-)

The motor is now done but it's not quite mine yet... as there is still a small shim that I need to pull from pick-n-pull today... I'm so busy!!! as soon as I run that to Summerland I have to go to Kamloops for the night and then off to Vancouver later tomorrow afternoon!

I'm LOVING my license back. I've put over 1000 Km on my beater since I got my license back on Friday.

Here is a couple shot of the motor done:

we were trying to make an honest 200 if we could and still keep alot of the stock componets like injectors etc. So please don't be a smart ( ASS) as with a nice nos system or small turbo that can easly be achieved.

Nicely done, guys.

I'm going to be using the stock tranny until it breaks then I'll replace it with another stock one... until it breaks then I'll decide if it's worth it to change toa stronger tranny some how some way

I sure did A lot of work today it feels like :-)

Today I finished installing the suspension so no more worring about that :-)

After compleating the suspension I moved on to the Brake rotors...the Cross Drilled brake rotors are much Bigger and the stock calipers don't work (too small) So I'll have to see if the legend or prelude calipers work better,.... DOES ANYONE KNOW OF BIGGER CALIPERS THAT BOLT TO OUR SETUPS?

tomorrow I have to go to pick -n pull to get an auto tranny for a friend of mine.... I'm getting good shouldn't take longer then 45 minutes or so.... of course i've done like 8 or 10 so far lol lol

you cant use the 88-89 efi calipers and brackets on the 86-89 carb knuckles because the bolt points are thiner and closer to the disk and i think the 89 bracket is thicker. you would need the knuckles for the 88-89. i went through this on the hatch.. it has 10.3" rotors on the front with the larger 88-89 efi calipers also same as 3g ludes and 2g tegs as well i believe.

Again I'm simply flattered.... Thank you.

Thank you ALL once again for coming by and posting on my thread I can't wait each night to come home and upload my work for the day...

I'm hopefully a month or less away from FINISHING this project!!

I just have to finish up sanding the entire engine bay and rest of the car... fixing any little body issues (very small dents etc.)

I need to then buy a two stage primer to spray the entire car down.

then.... A12 "Volcanic Orange" ... With a heavy metallic ... PAINT TIME!

WOW.... Working on old suspension never ceases to amaze me...

I couldn't break the cv nut no matter how hard I tried... Breaker bar... breaker bar with long extension... liquid wrench for like 4 hours.... I even used a torch to heat the nut and I was using a 3/4 inch drive impact gun....NOTHING!

So I bring the two spindles and rotors to my buddy at Canadian Tire.... 1000 ft pounds of torque zapped them of in literally less then 5 seconds... god damn mechanics and there $500 impact guns!

Thanx Mikey!

... Oh and these pictures don't really give the paint on the cross members justice.... one of our members stopped by yesterday and was amazed at how good that looked IRL :-)

....oh yeah SANDING THE ENGINE BAY SUCKS.

Your Nissan sound like a great project... I'm replacing a spindle on a Ford Tempo ( I got for FREE ) and shit bagging it one night soon :-)

As for my Silver cross members... Burnt orange and Metallic Silver looks great together ( I thought about it before I painted them ) Plus... they where black before and I really wanted to see a diffrent Color :-)

For the accord they need a special spacer where it sits on the hub to keep them positioned correctly.

valleyweb
04-13-2007, 08:46 PM
ya those are nice looking wheels.. that dumb spacer is actually a Hub Centric Ring, and it basically centers the wheel better on the hub, instead of using the wheel nuts to center it.

Gemini2003
04-15-2007, 12:15 AM
My car is finally on the ground again after that suspension fiasco... Let's see.. I wanted to put my lowering springs on and upgrade the rotors.... I ended up Replacing both Lower control arms because the bushings were toast... I also ended up replacing Spindles, Calipers and temporary rims because the drilled rotors are larger and required the 89 setup... not to mention the CV nuts I couldn't break with any tool in my shop and needed to take them to a garage to bust off with a 1000ft pound impact gun.... The end result is "PIA" suspension with Drilled rotors :-)

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC01000s.jpg

Look at how low it is!! :-) !! That's me standing next to it and the engine bay only comes halfway up my thigh :-D alltho With the 16" rims and the hood on It'll probably raise 2 or 3 inches from where it is now.

I spent a few hours sanding tonight and got more then two-thirds of my engine bay sanded

Hey Guys ;-)

I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to get that body line straight... I have the patience to do it right :-)

Did some sanding tonight but decided to watch the game instead... damn canucks lost ... but flames won so that's ok I like them both :-)

Hey Messy Honda this is the first time I've ever really used body filler ... are you serious that the body fill is looking good??

Hey Messy Honda this is the first time I've ever really used body filler ... are you serious that the body fill is looking good??

YES.. i took a class and we had to learn how to do it. and then i got to practice on my car. so far it looks good...and for the body lines....your fingers are also eyes....you have to feel the line...its werid to describe...i used some long blocks with sand paper and i took my time.

musclecarboy
04-21-2007, 04:09 PM
I agree with messy. once you have everything looking good, run your finger along it to find minor imperfections. Since Bondo is a light colour, it can hide small things and your eye will miss them. Just close your eyes and run your fingers along and then you'll find something. Open your eyes and u'll b like "holy $hit, I see it now."
good luck

best way is to keep hand flat and close yer finger, keep yer wrist straight and run it over the area, youll feel all the lows and the highs.... by the way, your project is unreal and i love the engine bay job

Gemini2003
04-22-2007, 07:37 AM
The body line on the fender is looking good ... I think another coat of body fill should do the job.... I know what you all mean about using my hands to see the imperfections.... I basically will close my eyes and run my hand over an area...if I can't feel the work I've just done then I've done a great job :-) ... I have 2 9" sanding blocks that are really helping out and I also have an air powered sander that's about 2 feet long or a little less that's making the job a lot easier :-)

Thanks for the adivce and kind words.... I have extremely high expectations and I truely hope I don't let anyone down :-P

OK FIRST OF ALL I'M SORRY.

My excuse is that I totally lost my drive for this project when:

A) I got my license back.
B) Summer hit.

These two things combined are bad when you live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The project is still happening it just got put on the back burner for a while.

To be honest I didn't even visit the site because I never wanted to be one of those guys that starts a thread and you never get to see the end of it. I am dedicated to this project and I WILL finish it.

BUT... Now I'm working on it again! :-) ... As a matter of fact tomorrow if my plans go smoothly I'll be painting the engine bay (after one more full sanding). If I get the bay painted by Sunday I can start putting in my new engine!

I thought I was picking a color no one has done before around here but today this car rolled into the wrecker:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/imagejpeg_2%20(9).jpg

Soooo.... I might pick it up and drive it as a beater... Would that be bad owning one and getting another painted a similar color??

Ok, this is it... from now on I hope to have some new things to add on here fairly often again.

Special Thanks to all of you who have checked this thread while I was gone.

Well here we are after the weekend and I didn't end up working on my project.

The whole weekend was spent dealing with the two cars I bought. The first is an 1986 Oldsmobile Firenza is a $40 wonder with a blown heater core. So I just looped the two hoses and I was good to go minus a heater. :-)

The second was this baby:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00235s.JPG

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00238s.JPG

Below you can see the area that took a bunch of damage:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00236s.JPG

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00237s.JPG

It looks like a tall truck hit the top of the door... the roof is caved a little so it'll need a lot of TLC.... I'm not putting much effort into this car as it's a winter beater and I only paid $500.

I bought all the paint and primer for the engine bay job... now that I have wheels again I'll be back near my shop a lot more often...

See you soon

If everything goes to plan the Engine bay should be fully primed tonight.

Then only one more step till it's painted :-) WOOT WOOT I have been waiting SOOOOOO long for this...

Overall the new car is in OK shape. It needed the exhaust fixed (so I put my nice muffler on it) and 3 out of 4 power windows don't work however the sunroof does work so that's a bonus... even with the body damage. The transmission shifts hard which makes me think it's day's are numbered... That's ok I can replace a tranny :-)

Sorry to tall You this, but you sud have paint lines first, now you'll need allot more masking to do, to preserve that orange. Well and I think it would be nice if you go with a theme. Silver & Orange, you have cross member in Silver already, stick with it.
And yes, like A18A said, paint whole car, because there is nothing in the way to paint it on the inside at the moment.

Althou looks great, no AWESOME!!!

I honestly don't dig the burnt orange color but it turns out to look really good on the car. Expecially with the black/silver theme. All the cars I've seen with that orange color looked like the infamous untaped paintjob.

Gemini2003
10-01-2007, 11:47 PM
The thing I really like about Burnt Orange is that naturally it looks better with sharp lines as it lightens and darkens with the light. So if you think of all the cars you've seen with Burnt Orange where they rounded style vehicals? We have older styling with more defined lines. Now if you add the shine of a really nice metallic mix you get one Hell of a paint job! ... (I hope)

It's been a hard look but I found the color I'm going with a while back. It's a few years old Nissan color called Volcanic Orange :-)

I really like the Black, Orange and Silver too :-) I'll be painting the porporitoning Valve next :

I like the color paint you've chosen, but you gotta be careful with it because it's a lil on the loud side, especially if you plan on putting on some bogus body kit and huge 17-18 inch wheels

If this became my car, I'd spray the whole exterior the same color with NO body kit, only refreshed side moldings, weather stripping a complete Energy Suspension bushing kit and some OG Axis wheels.

All Honda's circa 1981-92-ish really look like ass with body kits.

DO IT!

I have Nice "Niche" 16's that are going on.

Hey all it's time for another update :-)

I swapped my wiring harness today over to the 5-speed Ex-i harness :-)

I learned two things:

1. I have WAY to many parts in my shop. I found 3 complete wiring harnesses only one of which I could use (and did).

2. You couldn't do it if the car dash was in.

It was actually fairly easy to swap the harness over. Since I allready had the dash out , the carpet out and all the heater stuff out all I had to do was: Remove my newly installed 5 speed petals, Remove the steering column, Remove the bottom of the seatbelts in the B columns. Additionally since My engine is out the engine side of the harness was allready detached making for easy removal.

I'm feeling the next step will be to clean up all the firewall components and install them. I'm also thinking I should install most of the components that sit on top of the wheel well's inside the engine bay (all prep for the engine being dropped in). Perhaps now I should also try to install the main part of the heater so I can run the coolant lines to it once the engine is installed.

IT'S GETTING SO CLOSE!

I'm FAR from rich! As a matter of fact I'm working two jobs now... I am not really working on my car much this winter due to that fact...... plus It's Really hard to find the desire to freeze my nuts off in the shop during these winter months... in two months it will be warm enough to work in my shop again. I'm truly not that far from driving it... I just need like a solid week of warm weather.

Header Installed:
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2//DSC00416s.JPG

Intake Installed:
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00417s.JPG

I know it's not much But it feels like progress. I'm struggling with what to install first, so basically I'll just install everything I can on the block first... Correct me if i'm wrong but I think all I can install is intake, header, tranny, fuel rail, wiring harness.

Anyway, more progress later.

Hey All :-) Another update! (I get to do lots of these recently!)

I have pictures but I got a new cam and need to Grab the data cable. I'll update here later.

Yesterday I installed the Alternator, Power steering pump, each corresponding belt, Motor Engine Harness. I gave the motor a good clean as well.

At this point there is nothing left to install on the block!! (except Tranny).

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI0008s.JPG

I moved my car out of my shop for the first time in 8 months! Wow was that ever a circus! My shop isn't big enough to move the car around properly to I literally had to get it to the point that I couldn't move it anymore then used a floor jack to shimmy the ass-end sideways like three times... it took like an hour lol

BEFORE:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI0010s.JPG

I did the 'ol spring clean in the shop today.. again... it's amazing how many duplicates (and triplicates) of parts i have lol.

AFTER!!
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI0011s.JPG

I also took an air hose and wet cloth to my car to get the 8 months of body work dust out of it... that also took more then an hour.

So now it's on to the final touches in the engine bay, getting my fuse box and the motor mounts installed etc. I have the wiring harness strung and mostly connected as well.

And one just because I felt like it:

Hey all :-)

I keep finding that everything I put together needs one part I can't find so I end up going to the junkyard almost daily.. oh well...

I got shift linkage from the junker today as I was missing it lol... I installed my short shifter today :-) Here's some before and after:

Before:
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI0007ss.JPG

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI0009ss.JPG

After:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI0010ss.JPG

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC10011ss.JPG

I'll need to adjust it once everything is installed.... I ran into an issue with my tranny today... the spring that holds the throw-out bearing is broken so i'll need to pull a tranny at the junkyard just for that one small piece. I also need to re-install my Gas tank... I found out I'm missing the straps that hold it so again it's a trip to the junkyard.... I also found out that I was a dumb ass and cut my fuel lines coming off the tank, at least it's easy to get new ones when I drop the tank tomorrow.

I got the shift linkage bushings switched over today.... A long long time ago I bought them.... Post 194 (http://www.3geez.com/forum/showpost.php?p=658030&postcount=194) I think :) ...

As per the norm here is the before and after.... I couldn't find these anwhere on the internet again...

Before:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI00011s.JPG

After:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI000113s.JPG

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSCI000411s.JPG

I got other work done too but mainly it was getting odds and ends from the junk yard, such as the throw out bearing spring, the straps to hold the gas tank (which suck) and the gas lines off the tank.

I can now mount the tranny to the engine! Once that's complete there will be nothing left to put on (i think) :-)

I'm getting closer............

Well I got it to turned over yesterday but for some reason I've got no power to the pump, I'll give it another shot today and figure out what's wrong

Check the main relay and the ground wire near the injectors and/or thermostat in the engine bay. The main relay grounds there. This is what drives the pump.
