Hello Visitors!

My name is Michael and when I started this project I was 22... I live in Kelowna BC Canada. I do tech support for a living and my hobby is Loving my 3Gee!!! :-) It's amazing how easy a lot of this stuff is!

"My Winter project" As the name started out; is nothing short of a full 1986 LX to 1989 EX-i Conversion! I bought a crashed EX-i for $70 and at the same time the tranny went on my LX so I started this project.

Here are a just a few of the objectives I'm going to be completing over the next few months:

-- Full LX to EX-i conversion
---- Motor swap
---- Wiring harness
---- Dash
---- Auto windows and locks
-- Interior
---- New/Re-upholster seats/Need to learn this first
---- Dye the carpet/Replace
---- Fiberglass Custom interior components including the door panels

hopefully
---- Other fiberglass work (possibly customizing parts of dash or hood)
---- Changing the entire color scheme of the interior.
(I am strongly thinking complete black interior with a nice color to accent haven't decided what color yet most likely silver or grey to go with my carbon fiber accessories)
-- Exterior/Body
---- Fixing ALL the rust and body dent's
------- This includes cutting out all the body panels from the donor car and welding new ones into place.
------- Sandblasting the unibody and painting it Electric Blue (possibly Metallic Electric Blue) *****UPDATE***** Obviously I chose Burnt Orange not Electric Blue lol ******
---- Replacing LX roof with EX-i roof as it has a sun roof **decided not to do this***
---- Replacing rear window with donor car's as the defrost actually works.
---- Modified 3rd gen Acura Integra front bumper or possible Custom front bumper with the Acura bumper as a mold to play with.
---- Side skirts and Rear bumper will be fiberglass however I haven't put much thought into what they are going to look like yet.

Well that's a short list of the modifications I'll be making over the next few months. We ( 2 Friends and I) have invested in a 2 car garage a few months back and now we have converted it into a shop. We pay rent on this space so we almost always have 2 projects on the go. My best Friend is a journeymen mechanic so any mechanical issues I have he is my support guy (plus it helps he rents the shop with me)... ****UPDATE**** That went
sideways after about 6 months, I had to shelf this car project for a couple years, I established shop all to myself and it has allowed me to continue working on her properly :-) *********

I'm going to be posting my progress and I'm Trigger happy so there will be lots of pictures!

**********
I would really REALLY like your input good or bad. I'd love input on my choice of colors and all of the modifications...If you have suggestions as well this would be excellent!

Well here we go!!

I have lots and lots of pics, here are a few of the main progress of tear down. If you want I have all the pictures here in high res.

I've decided not to post pics of the donor car as it's really quite sad seeing a 3gee like that. (didn't even put wheels on it to get it on the flat bed we kinda just dragged it with a few guys)

Left side of the car:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0074.jpg
Removed: Front left door, Rear left passenger door, Left fender and Gas door

Right Side:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0095.jpg

Removed: Front Right door, Rear right door and Right fender

Center:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0088.jpg

Removed: Hood and Antenna ( I know it's not gone in the pic )

Picture of the Gauges

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0084.jpg

The gauges are reverse glow and the odometer reads 366154.3 KM

Removal of the front Seats and dash:

hhttp://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0113.jpg

Removed: Front seats, Alpine Stereo, Dash and Heater blower. ( pictures where not taken in order so the front windows has also been removed in this pic.)

Back seat out:

Front window removed:

Rear Window Removed:

(back dash also removed)

At this point All interior trim has been removed except for carpet (which is a fricken bugger by the way)

So now we have two accords worth of parts in the shop space is becoming a huge issue...

This looks Challenging lol

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0076.jpg

We spread it out to pick what we needed to keep and what to throw away:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0115.jpg
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0116.jpg
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0117.jpg

Anyone need ANYTHING accord? lol

After creative ummm stuff hiding in our shop where where left with a few heater components and the wiring harness

We ended up putting it all in the rafter area lol
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_0120.jpg

This is what's left:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_01192.jpg

Here we have the two accords:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_01222.jpg

My baby sitting naked in -5 C weather :-(

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/PIC_01232.jpg

And that's it for interior removal for now!!

Any questions?

Next: Engine and Wiring harness removal slated for the upcoming week or so depending on my work schedule.

jonrichert:
Yes Everything is going to be done by me if possible.

I have allready cut out 4 large Chucks of body panel from the donor car to repair my really bad rust spots. I have also removed the roof completly from the donor car to rob the sunroof :-)

Things like window replacment will be sent to a shop as they have the skill and all the weather proofing stuff handy.

frankie89:

Yes it's slated to be done by spring and i'm hell bent to be driving it by summer. :-)

Now that everything is stripped out, it's a good time to put in the sound dampening (like Dynamat).

Peace.

Gemini2003
12-07-2005, 01:49 AM
I Really want to lay down a Dynamat like material but I'd be tight on funds. I was actually looking for a cheap but effective alternative.... do you know what I might use?

Hash_man_Se_i
12-07-2005, 01:57 AM
Looks like fun... I'm almost at that stage with stripping my Old accord... its kinda fun haha, but the pile of parts is getting massive for me too... my dad isnt too happy about that in the garage.

IMO about the sound deadning stuff, Cascade audio makes the best stuff I think, but if you can't afford good stuff, then don't bother. Lots of the cheaper products are tar based, and basically just help stop vibrations in the metal, but don't actually stop sound waves.

Anyone need ANYTHING accord? lol

Was the interior grey?... If so, hows the condition of the trunk lining pieces?!... Mine are beat to hell from the previous owner.

EricW
12-07-2005, 10:10 AM
You have a lot of work ahead of you and you've already got the fun stuff done(stripping the car). When i did my EFI swap it was easy until the end when I had to chase down vacuum hoses and wiring problems until I figured out that I had a bad distributor. Then I had to figure out why the dome light didn't work(found a corroded crimp that came apart when transferring the harness). Good luck on the project.

Gemini2003
12-07-2005, 11:23 AM
Yeah your totally right Eric the fun stuff is just ending... removal of the wiring harness and motor is the last easy step for a while...

Once that is done I call in a few favors of people who want to help ( who just happen to have access to a sandblaster and a MiG welder to re attach all the panels) then comes sanding (oh that sounds fun lol)

After sanding we are going to use our shop as a paint booth :-) (We have already painted a couple cars in there it actually worked out quite well.)

I don't know about the painting and sandblasting but it sounds kinda fun to me :-P

Whoo hoo!!!!! BIG BIG BIG news!!!!

First the small news! I pulled the engine today! yep it's sitting on the floor i'll have pics in the next couple of days.

BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG NEWS!!

I JUST scored $2800 worth of Alpine Sterio equipment!!! For a killer deal.

Check this:

http://www.geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/x500mrdm100-f_ld.jpeg

2000 Watts peak 1000 watts RMS @ 2 OHM

and TWO of these

15" Dual voice coil 1500 watts peak 500 watts RMS @ 2-ohm

And this Nice 100 watt RMS x 4 @ 2 ohm

So this now means I get to make a full custom fiberglass ported trunk box :-) This box will also incorporate both amps.

BTW anyone who doesn't know car audio this is a fricken sweet score!

So yeah $1000 Canadian for that much Alpine :-)

It's used (6 months old) the guy has too much money and is getting a whole new system.

Oh yeah 12 months no interest no payments as well :-) I love financing....

The store broke every rule in the book to put it though financing!! lol due to the fact it actually wasn't store inventory just one of there customers old stuff :-)

One last bonus?

The Owner of the car audio store is going to come by when I'm ready to make a custom enclosure and give me a few suggestions to make it look killer :-)

so yeah... I had a good day.

12-09-2005, 07:28 AM
for cheap sound deadening you can use that stuff they use for roofing. its much cheaper than dynamat and works just as well. the whole concept is to add mass to your body panels so that they won't vibrate. it'll smell like tar at first but air it out for a day or two and you're set.

2drSE-i
12-09-2005, 08:04 AM
thats because it is tar

I try to be organized so I made 3 bags of bolts per car. Each bag is Titled "Dash" "Interior" "Engine/Engine Bay"

All labeled of course:

Now that's the kind of talk I like. Getting it sandblasted is definately a good choise in my opinion.

I just hope you wont be putting back in a sad LX engine, but go with something more B-ish. or H... :)

Hey guys... Thank you for all the great compliments...

The only spare engine I have laying around ( lol ) is the EFI one out of the donor car. Unfortunately at the time I started this project I didn't plan to do a non accord engine swap as 1.) I don't have a bunch of cash and 2.) I'm just a novice! I'm learning a lot as I go and a simple swap is what I need to do first.

I would love to swap in a nice engine but I think I may have to wait till I'm done this project.

As for all the pictures not working I'm having issues with my hosting company right now and they should be working shortly. **UPDATE** My host decided to change thier nameservers without telling me AND THEN they gave me the wrong ones! anyhoo... you'll see pics in 24-48 hrs (It's 10:30AM Dec 22 2005 right now.)

SANDBLASTING

As for the sandblasting idea... I called a few body shops that do sandblasting and the general idea is that sandblasting is going to be too harsh for the thin gauge metal on the body. The car will still have all the paint stripped off but I'm not sure if it's going to be done with a less harsh media blaster or by hand.

If it's by hand it's been suggested to me that I use a variable speed rotary sander or possibly chemical stripping product... any ideas on this?

ZackieDarko
12-22-2005, 12:36 PM
you should rub coca-cola on it, if it'll clean up your chrome it must like to eat paint :-p

A18A
12-22-2005, 02:46 PM
what about water blasting it? or is water blasting 2 weak?

Gemini2003
12-22-2005, 03:04 PM
I could see water blasting if I could get like a 15HP or higher...

I've used 5 HP pressure washers and l didn't damage my paint in least so i'd need to use probably 3 times that but yeah I'm just guessing.

Oh, when you said get it sandblasted I automatically assumed you meant getting the underbody sandblasted. Not the outside body of the car :)

Several people gets the underbody sandblasted and painted and afterwards it'll be clean as heck and without any rust. A good option for people in countrys with salt on the roads that wants to protect their precious car.

Gemini2003
12-24-2005, 08:31 AM
I Actually never thought about the underside of my car!! I feel silly now lol

I wonder if spending the time on the underside is going to be worth it.... I mean I am in Canada and we do use salt and gavel but I'm not planning on driving it in the winter so maybe not.... Good idea though!

Oh and by the way all the pictures are fixed.

Gemini2003
01-04-2006, 09:23 PM
I've been waiting on a couple of things so unfortunately no major accomplishments since tear down was completed...

Basically next step is to pressure wash the car then Sand all around the bad rust areas and the areas that I will be replacing... All prep work for the upcoming body panel replacements.

Hey Gemini what tool do you use to remove the front and rear windshields? Isn't it like some tool with a sharp blade edge that heats up to melt the rubber seal and makes it easy to cut? I dunno what it's called.

mykwikcoupe
01-04-2006, 11:54 PM
no heating or anything. its basically a handle with a sharp very ridgid blade. Theres a flexjoint attatched that goes out to a handle so you can pull on it and all. Ryan made it look pretty easy when he did my windshields but thats what he does.

ICEMAN707
01-04-2006, 11:58 PM
any idea where i can get the new metal trim for the windshields and the snaps/fasteners? also, what type of rubber adhesive is that that they use to glue on the windshields? can i get that at home depot?

Gemini2003
01-09-2006, 05:03 PM
Actually I used Wire and 2 screw drivers :-)

Went to the local parts place and picked up window removal wire for under $10 and just went at it like a saw but with wire :-)

As for what the substance is to put the window back in... Honestly I'd check a local glass shop for what they use... they are usually very nice about it :-)

I'm Actually going to use a glass shop to put everything back in for the fact they will do it right the first time and guarantee work :-)

Oh, and for anyone interested I peeled the rubber of my front window and I found a whole pile of unwanted rust :-( Oh well more sanding :deal:

**Edit** One more thing there is a nice update on Zack's site (Pinball Kidd) his car and a few others including mine are on there located here: 3gee Accord (http://www.timtone.com/tt/zach/3geez.htm)

Please don't do it iceman! Let a professional installer put your glass in. I get sooooooooo tired of fixing peoples stuff that they fuck up cause they think they can install glass.
It is a HUGE safety factor, and if it's not done right you are risking your life bro.
The only place you can get new moldings ect. is from Honda. All the cowling clips we get from our glass distributors, so the average jo needs to go to the dealership.

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/LR wheel wellsmall.jpg
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/RR Wheel wellsmall.jpg

From the donor car I have already removed the panels and sections required to do 90% of the rust repair on this car :-)

mkymonkey
01-13-2006, 05:11 PM
cool....get them uploaded then. :D

Gemini2003
01-14-2006, 02:39 PM
So here we go :-) I have some progress to report... First I have to say my pictures where spread between 2 digital camera's and one of the cameras is blurry...

So I got My car all pressure washed and cleaned up before starting on the body work I have to say it looked pretty good and the fact I didn't have to wash my hands every time I touched something works for me too!

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/firewallsmall.jpg
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/frontleftsidesmall.jpg

I decided to take my roof off the car first only because I bought a new drill and wanted to use it :-)

Also I've decided to pull the outer skin of my roof off and leave everything else. My idea with this is that the replacement roof will fit perfectly instead of fighting with cutting the support pillars.

Here is a quick pic of the roof seam before I got started:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/1.JPG

Then I drilled out all the spot welds:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/2.JPG

After drilling out the spot welds I pried the metal apart using a hammer and a strong flat head screw driver:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/3.JPG

Sorry that it's blurry.... I'm not worrying about the metal of the roof as it's going to the dump and the sunroof is getting put on ;-) (W00t!)

Another of the work on the seam (back window)

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/4.JPG

Now once I had the seam apart there is a tar like substance holding the cross braces to the roof. I left the braces but after inspecting the other roof I've decided to remove those as well.

SORRY AGAIN that these are blurry!! I'll take better ones soon! This will give you the idea though!

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/5.JPG

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/6.JPG

So that's where she sits :-) I have more images of the bad rust areas etc but for now she sit's with a HUGE sunroof lol looks cool eh?

I Really want to lay down a Dynamat like material but I'd be tight on funds. I was actually looking for a cheap but effective alternative.... do you know what I might use?

You could afford all that, but you don't have enough money for Dynamat??? :dunno:

LOL The rust really isn't that bad!!!

Seriously guys!! I have non rusty replacement body panels I cut out from the last car! All I have to do is cut out the current rust and replace the metal from the last car and *Poof* 90% of the rust is gone.

Actually the next step is to sand down the area's that I'm cutting out.

I'll let you all in a little secret... I had my licence suspennded for at least 6 months :-( Like I said I have lots of time to mess around on this project.

Hello :-)

Thought I'd leave a little update ;-) I bought a sandblaster!!!! Whoo Hoo!!

I've officially started all the bodywork. The sandblaster is not working as well as I thought it would, this is possibly due to the fact we have a weak air compressor... oh well

Some of the rust has now been repaired it's defiantly a slow work in progress but it is going a lot faster then I thought it would. No body parts replaced yet.

I'll have pictures soon but it's hard always having to borrow a digi cam. Oh yeah I'm still separating the donor roof aswell :-P

Yeah I've taken the roof off my old Lx and I'm replacing it with one that has a sunroof in it...

The reason (besides the ton of rust) is I kept getting pissed off that every car I've owned hasn't had a sunroof...

You know Pinball kid said the same thing... that I may be doing something no-one else has on this site! now for me THAT would be cool....

Nice work dude!!!

Honestly, this is LITTLE rust.

You southern guys just freak out when you see a small rust spot. You should come up north and have a look at any 10 year old ca, they sometimes look worse than this one honestly.

Good choice on the sunroof!!! That was the best time/way to do it.

For the rear fenders, you shoudl go to Napa and buy replacment body panels, they are cheap and will just fit there easily. Just a little cut/weld job bit the shape will be perfect.

Right now I'd have to do some re-constructive surgery to the two rear fenders I cut out to make them work well :-)

I have a discount at Napa and both rear fenders cost me around 110 for an 89 civic sedan.

I know they have all the stuff you need for the Accord. It even comes in defferent shape depending on what's rusted or not. They also have the rocker panels.

This is definetly somehing you should buy. This way, you replace the rusted part with a rust free one and Bingo! no more rust and the perfect fender shape.

ANYONE who has used windows paint program to try and fab a CGI body kit you have my respect... It's facking hard!!!

I know a couple of the angles are wrong (Front bumper sucks I know I didn't care about the lights) but this is basically the idea for my car when I'm done. It's of course going to have a brand new paint job... ** Graphite Metallic :-) **

oh yeah if this pic sucks give me a break I was using MS Paint!!!

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/xxxalmost.jpg

So? What do you think? I'm actually going to scan my drawing eventually but this gives you the idea.... Any comments or suggestions??? (GOOD OR BAD)

I'm toying with the idea of making the fender flairs a little biggier and incorporating a flair all along the bottom of the kit and fender wells....

I'm thinking about buying blocks of foam and then carving them down to the shapes I need. That should be interesting lol

http://members.shaw.ca/mmargeson/DSC00012.jpg

So I'm now cutting out all the panels that have to much rust to repair... There will be 4 sections of metal cut out and then the old panels I cut out (from the donor car) will sized to fit and welded in place :-) I'm also sanding and priming all the rust spots that are in the interior of the cabin (like below). These will not receive paint but a good coat of primer to prevent the rust from reforming.

so is all this work worth it?

In my opinion and in my situation yes.

However... It's really quite a huge job, I know this may be stating the obvious but if you can't dedicate a healthy amount of time into this GOOD LUCK. I've been on it for just over 3 months now (at 2 days a week on average) and I'm just getting into the final stages of the body work... I'm probably looking at another 3 months until the car is nice enough to drive again.

It's good for me because I'm not driving right now. It's also good for me because it's fairly cheap way of doing things. I'm in the project for under $1000 including the price of 2 cars and a sandblaster.

are you serious about napa selling replacement panels? i always thought they just sold replacement parts. think they sell or even stock there here in alberta? i might consider doing this cause my rear quarter has rust and im thinking about replacing them as well. to fix the rust on my trunk id probably have to replace it(its forming severely on the bottom near the latch). and for the front fenders id probably have to go get new ones as mine are dented heavily and starting to form rust where someone keyed

I know that Napa carries a nice selection of body parts. At least here in Quebec

Here's what I know they have:

- Front bumper cover
- Front bumper reinforcement
- Front fenders
- Hood
- Rocker Panels
- Rear quarter / rear wheel arch (depending on how much metal is rusted on yours)

They carry aftermarket replacement body parts so this might even include more but that's what I can think of now.

hmm, im nto sure if they carry it here in alberta. i doubt they carry it here though. what do you need to do if your replacing the rear quarters? cut it out and weld the new one in place, or is it bolted into place?

my rear quarters have a bit of rust near the wheel arch, and my side skirts are pretty much chewed up.

hey gemini2003, is it easy to remove the sideskirts? i might need to replace mine with junkyard ones soon enough

My suggestion: Paint any rusty spots that you aren't going to cut out with this stuff, it's WAY better than primer:

http://www.por15.com/

It's almost like a ceramic coating, and it WILL NOT CONTINUE to rust. Primer on theother hand... well, it's just paint. POR-15 is like liquid kevlar, it's insane.

Holy cow long time with no update.

This is because I have run into some issues at my shop and it's making it really difficult to work on my baby...

I have all the quarter panels cut out and reshaped to replace the missing metal on the project car BUT someone STOLE or Misplaced one of my replacement panels. Meaning I have to start over on something I've already spent many hours on :chainsaw: :chainsaw: I'm so mad... We have a shop that has 3 people in it and shit still goes fricking missing....... REALLY makes me want to spend more quality time on it...

However... I picked up yet another 1987 Honda Accord lol It's got a blown tranny but I picked it up for $150 Canadian!!

The reason I bought this new car is due to the fact the ONLY rust it has is on the rear driverside quarter panel :) This means I can swap over my already sanded and primed : Roof, 4 doors, hood, front right and left quarter panels. This leaves only the rear portion of the new car to sand and primer. The result is I have a new project car in much much better starting condition

I'll have pictures soon.

lol....well, I read through the thread and was planning to point out that your car at least had it's floor pans and they look pretty decent, but since you've switched cars....

Have you done anything on it yet? The pans in your old car looked pretty good....have you checked them in the new one yet?

You've done quite alot of work on your car.... the roof in particular seems like quite a project. I wish I had a shop, and enough time to do something even remotely like what you've done.

Look forward to seeing the results....

Gemini2003
04-09-2006, 05:18 PM
Well it's funny you mention seeing results. My friend took some pics for me like 2 weeks ago and STILL hasn't sent them to me... I've gotten some more pics now and here they are!

The following is how my first car is now.

I am kinda depressed spending so much time on this one and now swapping it but I really want a good unibody to start with. My goal here was to learn and I have learnt a ton working on my baby... alas her time is done and will be going to the scrap yard.

Sorry about the blurrrrry pics but you get the idea...

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/repair%201.jpg
All the metal replacement patches have been cut and fitted.

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/repair%202.jpg
Also the edges have been sandblasted.

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/repair%203.jpg
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/repair%204.jpg
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/repair%205.jpg

And there she is... I'm sad to say but her cancer problem was terminal. There was alot of rust areas that where going to be a problem in the future anyway. It's not a total loss... I'm keeping the right fender, left fender, hood, roof and trunk... oh and the doors too....

Whistler225
04-09-2006, 05:28 PM
Sorry to hear that man. I live in NH so I know what happens to cars around here....I'm worried about the one I just bought....it doesn't have any visible rust, but you never know what's lurking underneath all the trim, under the car, and under everything else until you start digging like you did.

Hope your new one turns out the way you want....I know I'll try to watch this thread and see how it goes....I have alot of respect for people who do their own work.

I personally agree with 89resto, though I think you should do what will make you happy dude....it's your car, and you have to look at it every day. For that reason, I'll be putting a small (like a 'lude) spoiler on mine, and probably little else other than paint.

Don't let someone else tell you what you should do with your car though, especially after the work you've done. Particularly someone who uses language that seems designed to be insulting. I say "ricer" myself sometimes, mainly because to me it means someone who slaps a car kit on the car without doing much else to it except maybe an "angry bee" exhaust, but you've gone through a complete restoration and are about to start another. I think that removes you from the "ricer" category, regardless of how you dress your car.

Gemini: I want to apologize for my part...didn't mean to waste space in your thread.

So you're three months from being back on the road, right? Will you be able to get everything squared away in time?

Did you ever find out what happened to the stuff that went missing from your shop?

If there's any way I can help, just let me know....I'm not very knowledgable about 3rd generation Hondas, but I can identify basic stuff, so if you need someone to make a JY run to look for stuff, I'll be happy to help.

What part of Canada is Kelowna in? I live in NH....the Canadian border is about 3 hours from here.

First I'd like to give a little update and then I'll talk about the vandalism.

Not really anything special here except I have all the body panels and doors swapped over.... I'm saving a crap load time by having all those pre-sanded and primed parts :-P :-P

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/prog1.jpg
Everything lines up perfectly! This car is amazing... When I was taking the bumper skrews out they where like butter... no rust at all! Even in the engine bay where my car was rusting this car is clean :-) I'm very happy!

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/prog2.jpg

My friend Skotty suprised the heck out of me and dropped of a couple of presents! I now have a pair of 1991 Prelude Si seats GREAT condition. The foam feels extremely new!. There is some sun damage on the right shoulder of the driver seat but that's it :-)

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/seat2.jpghttp://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/seat3.jpg

Below is the little bit of sun damage:
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/seat4.jpg

OK so here it is...

My friend actually called me in the morning and told me it happened. I got there and saw that he over exaggerated about it. The cart didn't go through my window but it still put a hole... here are the pics:

It WAS a perfect window. I'm actually not as mad as I should be... I'm just starting to get used to stupid crap happening. I'm really not that bad off I mean I have extra windshields from the previous parts cars and thanx to me learning how to take them out it's not really a lot of work.

I've stripped my motor down and it's now ready to be sent off for some major work... :-) I can't wait to see what kind of HP I'm playing with when it comes back in like 6 months!

I've received a pacesetter header from SQ is the SQUAD and just received 100 Sq ft of B-Quiet Extreme Sound dampening material.... hopefully enough to do every inch of my car! :-D

I just dropped my motor off!!! :werd: It's finally happening! My motor is being rebuilt! Originally I was going to spend enough to just refresh the motor however now I've decided to go a little extra.. I'm hoping for some great horsepower :-) Due to the nature of the deal I have it's going to be about 6 months or more before I see my motor back in my car... This is allright as I still have no licence for 10 months :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

Wow I came to boast about some little insignificant trim rehab I did on my 3G then I run across your thread. Now I feel like a total slackass LOL. Dude you are one motivated guy!! It took me a year to get the motivation up to do a carb rebuild and intake freeze plug fix and vacuum hose-ectomy and radiator and cv shafts and other similar maintenance items to get my 3G running and registered/inspected. Hello all

I have been very busy lately but at least I got the rusty panel cut out ;) I really wish this was more significant... but here you go :-)

Well here is the new panel and bad rust spot:

[IMG]http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC0032022.JPG

Above in the circle you can see the rust and after cutting out the panel I found bondo all the way above the line!! Why would you put that much bondo on when you didn't have to?? oh well I guess it's a 15 yo car...

the couple cuts I made...
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC003182.JPG
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC003212.JPG
What I'm left with:
http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC003222.JPG

I don't know how much you can tell from this photo but I have a little rust issue on the main body of the car (under what I cut out) as well... I was lucky and grabbed the metal I needed when I was at the junkyard.

This cut out section is not done... I still need to trim it down so the cuts are straighter and I still have to clean the seam in the door frame... then like last time I'll fit the new metal in and get ready to weld it :-)

I'm actually fairly nervous about my end result.

I'm not worried I won't like it I just hope that I make something good enough to have spent almost a whole year on. Plus I don't want to put in that time and end up with something that disgraces 3geez...

(Like the 89 I saw the other day with DUAL stick on hood scoops and a 45/yo Woman driving it... I HAD to ask her if she let her 14yo son do the work...she said it was her husband...yech!)

I love the support I get here and you guys are really great for information.

A little update on the pictures above:

All the rust located on the inside of the unibody has been cut out and sandblasted. I'm planning on using fiberglass and re-enforcing the whole wheel well... so even if it does rust in a few years again the fiberglass should hold it all together.

I've shelled out the quarter panel I cut out from Pick your part and it's ready to be sized and put into place... I have to say finally seeing some progress is re-assuring ;-)

What kind of time frame you think you might have the car done & ready for that paint?

I'm not sure really... My time on this project depends on how much time I can get in at the shop... and depending on the things in my life it isn't always a priority so the time frame I'd guess to be going on my past rate.... sanded and primered in 30 days... (I Hope!)

Hey Everyone!

I thought I'd throw down a few pictures as I haven't had anything else huge to report recently.

BUT First... This accord only drives around to haunt me lol:

http://geminiwebhosting.ca/images2/DSC00165.jpg

The reason why I posted this pic is because I have been meaning to show everyone what NOT to do with their Accord... This guy has a half primer half burgundy Accord with stick on hood scoops etc... It looks just horrible to do that to one of our cars. I see this Accord around like once a week and can NEVER snap a pic of it until today when I saw it in traffic once again... One day I'll get a better pic of it!

I actually got to see my motor today! The gent that has it did me a huge favor today and came down to Westbank picked me up and took me up to his shop which is about 30-40 min drive :-) :-)

While I was there I learned a shitload of info that I needed to make an educated decision on what will be happening to the build. Any question I had Mr.R had a wealth of info for me and was a real eye opener to what can be done if you have the experience and skill that he does.

While I was there looking at all the guts of my motor I snapped a few pictures... Basically these are the before shots of the build and of course you know me more will be coming as soon as the motor is ready to be assembled.

Here are the pics I snapped today.. Nothing spectacular to a mechanic but to me they are very cool!!! Here they are:

Thanks again!

So? What's going to happen with the build? What direction are you taking the motor?

Gemini2003
09-18-2006, 11:13 AM
Well I've decided to go naturally aspirated.
I've also Explained to Mr.R that my goal is to have 200hp.

There are couple of reasons why but mainly for me I wanted to have a done out Accord with an A20A pushing almost double the stock horsepower.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd be the first NA build in Canada on this site now THAT would be sweet. Hopefully In a couple of weeks I should have everything priced out aswell :-) Maybe even a parts list but that I'm not sure about.

I'll Have more info about the build as I learn it.

Later!

You can be guaranteed I'll be getting a Dyno done. There is one here in kelowna now and I fully intend on knowing the exact HP my car is putting down.

Be civil, guys, it's not often a professional engine builder is willing to come talk to us. If he's BSing, we'll know soon enough. In the meantime, that's a grown man you're talking to, don't talk to him like he's 14 years old.

well im just saying if he is for real id say he should just build engines cause that would be wicked

or he could come here and fix mine :)

I'm sure he'd be delighted to build one for you if you sent him one.
However, I can't help but assume you're every bit as broke as I am, and that's pretty damn broke!

Hey bro I haven't read the whole thread, but Are you planning on leaving the interior stripped? That would save a lot of weight and increase the "Go FAST' aspect of the car? Just a thought and suggestion?

Hi all, My name is as you know it Mr R. Name to follow later. I work full time as head journeyman at my day job . (Not bragging but I have my masters) and also have a small hobby shop where I make HP. My customer Mike for short will have and be delivered all specs on his engine. In NO way will anything be posted on what I did and how. Sorry I do things a little off the wall.I will make 208 HP with this engine and no mass air flow meter (which makes hudge differance with injected cars) and most of this comes from head, cam and setup. I will post as I go and let Mike take pics as required. Sorry to be a little of an ass but I keep my findings very private for all my customers.
Thanks for understanding.

Thank you Speedpenguin.

I have HUGE respect for Mr.R and to have him come on 3geez was his choice however I did direct him here and I rave about this site. As such if he has a bad experience while sharing his knowledge here I would feel responsible.

To have him post in my thread and then have his comments met with disbelief is the last thing that should be happening. If we hit 200 HP or not he still has 35 YEARS of experience of engine work at his disposal... longer then most of us have even been around. That being said THANK YOU Mr.R for signing up and being a part of our small community.

Yes I'm shooting for 200 HP however speed isn't my priority. I have plans for huge stereo system that is going to weigh as much as 125-175 Lbs. So I decided to make the interior as nice as possible to match the exterior paint job. I want this car to be a show car as well.

Yeah I'm getting excited now...now that all the parts are coming together and the portion of the poject where all I'm doing in buying crap is almost over... I need to speak with Doug again and rent a 110 mig welder to get my panel put on and then re-sand the whole car.

I havn't heard from Mr.R yet but in the next week or so I should know how much the motor is going to set me back.

It's cool you've decided to go N/A aswelll.... I really want to go with you and check out AutoCross one day soon :-)

Hey bud you will hear from me. trying to cut as many cost for you as I can but still build you a awsume engine. Most people don't get it but engines are just glorified air pumps and what you get in you must get out and that is where the problem lies in your engine getting the exhaust out with 1 valve. The head has only so much material and will only passs so much air, BUT I am on it and looking for more as we speak. I will have a price back by weekend on your crank and rods and other than that I have all details in place. We will talk my friend and I will make you fly.

Small note for dis believers, shit I can't spell but I can build motors. i don't even own a honda but 4 cylinders are 4 cylinders and i will have Mike post pics later of some of my shop (small as it may be) and of a couple of 1325 cc bike engines I built and so on. One of my best friend who I sponsor in raceing runs a turbo achohol bike and makes 467 hp at 10200 and ran a best this year at 7.18 199 mph with bike weighing in at about 675. Differant but the same. I am best at turbo NOS engines as that is where i bloom but you also need to have a good NAP engine to start with. One day you guys will understand that HP takes time and money BUT 90% is made in top end.

I am 48 building crap since 8 years old, everything is paid for in my shop, no overhead, slow at what I do because It is not a full time job, just a fun hobby. When it changes to production, I will close the doors and just tinker on my own shit.

End of story.

Hahah the parts piles are funny... I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm running out of places to hide parts... living with the parents sucks... my mom doesnt like car parts lying around, and my dads garage is pretty much full.

The strut bars/tie bars look good too, I cant wait to get mine.

4 Valves negative on that. onlly 3 valves but there is 4 holes per cylinder in the head 3 for the valves (2intake)(1 exhaust) and 1 hole for the spark plug.

speedpenguin

The only 4 valve head is the B20A head, and that's a completely different engine.

Mr. R, is there any head porting you could do on an A20A3 that would get me at about 150-170 HP with minor other mods (In other words, not having to change injectors and fuel pump and alot of other crap..)?

Only problem I see is shipping you the head and such.

Here Is a random picture:

This is what you get if you bag each and every bolt from every Accord you've stripped!! I've got Three bags from each Accord lol

Think I'll find what I'm looking for?

Actually this kind of reminds me of something...

Now that people are getting to know me as an Accord guy I get calls from people in distress... I helped a buddy out with an extra starter I had :-) ... Oh and when I went to the Kelowna meet my car wasn't there but my old hood was on one Accord there and my old block was in another LOL

So I've learned the HOW-TO on Fibergless.... Man it's soo easy :-)

I took the last few days fixing a couple of key areas of rust.

I'm really really excited because now that I know how to fiberglass I can move on to projects that until a few days ago I didn't have the skill to do!

I've fixed the top of the wheel well on the pasenger side and I've fixed a big hole created by rust on the drivers side rear wheel well as well. Here are a couple of pictures of what I have been doing.

It's not finished yet I've got sanding and primering to do... The majority of what you see will be covered by the rear bumper so it's not important to me that it looks nice as long as it's fixed.
