the 86-88 accords all had the same two part #s for fuel injectors.

the 89 had a different part #, while the KL (california) 89 had yet another part #.

does anyone know what the differences are and why?

i'm just guessing from the east coast, because CA has diff. rules and reg.'s about pollution caused by cars, everytime i search the local j/y it always pops up about my carb. Fed. CA non-CA...

Does that help at all?

I NKOW that the Cali cars are different, because of the emissions control in Cali. In fact, go look at the repair manual for a 1st gen DSM, the CA version has entire extra smog control and a whole seperate harness than the normal version. Way more vacuums and extra sensors. I'm willing to be that the '89s having a different part # is probably either because the '89s are OBDI (don't know for sure if they are OBDI or not) or its a different style injector. I know the CA version being different is because of smog. What's the problem on your end though?? (What provoked you to ask this??)
