Those commercials producers probably drive Turbo Cayennes, and they get owned in the streets by old honda civics, preludes, some accords, or celicas, which basically pisses them off. So that's why they are taking the old cars. They probably do not have tuning knowledge whatsoever. And they don't know that real rides are built, not bought... :cool:

the reason they used a 3G is because they didn't have to pay much for one...
it was probably cheaper to reant it than to pay someone to fake a crash in CGI.

No I'm pretty sure that they dropped a really big ass brick on the car and then masked it with the image of the giant burger, and touched it up in the computer using after effects or what-have-you....pretty common composite video imagery...

I'm sure my buddy Mike the FX wiz could duplicate the shot frame for frame if he had their production budget. I bet he could do it with a really well built minature at half the budget they used.

I'd have to tape the commercial and review it frame by frame to know for sure what they did, but there was a good bit of crushing from what I remember, or did it disappear under the Burger in a cloud of dust?

I'd like to kick the fool in the teeth who picked the 3G to use in the commercial. It was probably some muscle car-loving insecure redneck with a small weiner, who's girlfriend/cousin that was once swept off their feet by a real Don Juan ricer kid in a red 3G, LOL. Or it some stinky ricer kid who wanted to get vengence for having his ass handed to them by one of our 3G member's bitchin' rides.

Most likely they went and got a junkyard 3G for $300 or less, towed the poor bastard to a body shop and paid some dickwad $1500 to do bondo, paint and polish it...then towed it off to the sound stage where they blue screened it and smashed it.

My second theory is that it was the producer's car and the production guys were jealous of his pimp-ass 3G and they towed it to the stage and wacked it for shits and giggles. Either way there are some dumb ass haters out there. I don't like that Vonage commercial where they have the stock "America's funniest Home Video" footage where they smash that little Civic hatch with the falling tree...and they go "some people do stupid things"...or whatever.

The general American TV watcher just loves to see stuff get smashed, just not vintage Camaros and Mustangs, unless they're racing and one explodes into a glorious ball of flames and the driver is set on fire but "miraculously" survives with a bruised knee and a chipped tooth.

Look at the very first frame, the hood looks crooked. It also looks as if it has no rear bumper at all, the front bumper is slightly crooked, and that it has cheap-ass plastic wheel covers and not rims (possibly not even Honda rims, just cheap Wal-Mart crap). I would bet money they got at least one (probably several) junkers and smashed it/them to create this.

Oh and my 86 LX-i had full amber front lights so I know that is an 86-87. It was probably one or more junker DX or LX models.

They are still going to burn for this though!

you're right, the hood doesn't line up, and the rear door looks dented up, too.

chances are that this was just a beater that the production crew picekd up at a junkyard for practically nothing, slapped a coat of paint on it, and did that.

i'm sure it could be fixed up to look good enough for that for about $200, inculuding the price of the car :p

they have a good choice of drinks
