View Full Version : How to for removing/subsituting popup headlights?

12-14-2005, 08:17 AM
Anyone seen a how to on this or even a good thread? I like the look w/o the pop up lights and using normal lights instead. Since I'll probably paint my car anyway it would be a good time to do it.

ugh, no pop-ups? gross. But if you want to do it, search for like EDM headlights, i'm pretty sure they're fixed. But imo, dont do it, they look weird

search...

No how-to i don't think.... though some members have done it and switched back...:sad2:

I've seen JDM and prelude headlights, but didn't really think those looked good. I like the ones on The Great Danes car, but I never found out how it was done.

why don't you just leave the lights up, there's a button for that miang. hehehe.

12-14-2005, 12:05 PM
What? ..and lose valuable aerodynamic properties?!?!!! lol. Nah, I just don't like the look. The handling and so many other things are nice about this car, just the out of date things like these headlights, trim, bumpers, etc.

The flip up lights aren't out of date. I think that makes this car unique and beautiful.

wow im the opisite, lets swap hoods, lights and fenders :) i hate edms, wish i had pop-ups, i want pop-ups that blink randomly like eyes and goes to sleep :) that would be cool. anyways why dont you try do this? (except keep shape of the pop-ups)

too much. here's apicture of the gd's car (recent AOM?):

this is a little boxy and i don't like all the black on the bumper, but you see it's conservative. i don't want $200 lights on a $500 car. i like the painted handles. I thought about doing a custom fiberglass mold for the front and rear bumper at one time. maybe i'll revisit that...

thats whats mine *supose* to look like except not as shiney, i think it would look good with teg lights on it, im pretty sure conversion is easily done, but some ass welded my lights in from a previous crash

There's a guy in town with integra light on his 3g. Looks like he just cut room for it with a sawzall, and he prolly had to make brackets too. It looks bad, but I think he just did a shitty job on it. IMO, if you want that look, get a integra or civic, that's basically what you're doing to it. The pop-ups are sexy anyway. It's not a 3g anymore without 'em. Just look at military mace's, and you'll see just how clean the popups can look.

I wana do something like that, where did you get that from lol I could try and incorporate it into the 3gee........but then again, where could I just fine just the lights lol. I want a projector and solid lowbeam housing like that.

12-16-2005, 06:05 AM
Looks like Integra lights, but with a different mold. It's concave instead of convex. Interesting! Best I've seen so far. Thanks for the post Blazin3gen. I like the dual projection. Guess I could attempt to fiberglass my own mold...? The trick is making it look good... and I have zero experience w/ fiberglass, lol.

What parts are needed to do this conversion? Sorry if it has already been asked.

Red prelude? Those lights are /hot/.. I might have to give that a go - do some measurements and try some foam and fibreglassing ..

It's pretty :)

parts needed for edm conversion

edm hood, edm lights, edm corner lights, edm fenders.

result - shitload of money to make it look like a civic of the same year. popups own

Civic front end wouldn't fit from the same year?

Hmmm.

HondaBoy

no, the civic front is too narrow and wouldnt look quite right. that'd be a lot of work for a civic front that everyone has.

yea, plus like i said why would u want everyone to think u have some gay shitbox, when you have a 3g?

Those lights on the prelude looked pretty goo...someone should make some for a 3g...

great dane has the stock edm lights. so you'd have to do the edm conversion (which i myself want to do). you'll for sure need the edm fenders, lights, hood, possibly top radiator support, etc. idk for sure. should probably just take an engine bay shot of the edm and compare it to a usdm engine bay shot and see what else would probably need changing. and ask in the marketplace and see if anyone wants to sell you the conversion.

heres an idea...Some edms wont usdm..right?...Some usdm want edm...right?

Make a trade....

hey Guys, the front frame in edm sedan and USDM sedan is totaly different. I hope You know what I mean. The front frame is the whole down support of a radiator with headlights housing and so on.
If You take edm light they wont fit into your car.
also grill is a different part.

it is not just hood and fenders wich you can change at your home garage.

the upper radiator support is not a problem, its also different but this is part wich you can unbolt, so its easy to do some custom mountings,
but you wont unbolt the front frame, You will have to cut it out,
and than, weld in the EDM.
and pray that all parts will line up,
another way it will look like $...

and one more... the EDM bumper mountings are different too, so I dont know that you can use USDM.

^^^^^^^^^^Its called the bulk head............thats whats different....OH and the headlight buckets are different too.

blahblahblah
02-15-2006, 10:44 PM
the bulk head? huh? thats not different....or im lost..bulk head=firewall..right?.. And why would the frame be different...That would make the cost for handa to make the car higher...Makeing two different fames for the same car...And what..we have no frame....
EDIT: the "frame" has to be the same..look at the motor swaps...

I think all you would need is the radiator support, hood, fenders, headlight holder/buckits whatever and I bet theres more under/behide the lights..I would like to do the swap..But only if I still had a 2nd accord with the popups

if i did the pop-up conversion, the bracket would get in the way of the battery wouldnt it?

edit: thats as far back my battery would go

I think the conversion that guy did on the lude was a conversion for the flip up for the 240sx. Not S13, but there is a conversion to replace the flip up with duel projector beems just like on the lude.....I bought a set of these and im waiting to get around to install them to do the conversion...
