I have 89 LXi. I blewup the engine during springbreak:( . I was wondering if anyone has replaced an engine in one of these cars before. I don't want to swap for a different engine just replace the one I got now. If anyone has done this before how difficult is it and what do the cost run. The best "deal" I could find on an engine(A20A3) is $1599 with a 5yr/100,000 warranty on parts and labor. Iam plan on doing the swap my self. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks .:Mike:.

It's easier to do if you have a manual to help you (Haynes for example)

If you're adventurous, ot's not THAT hard but it's definetly something you don'T want to do alone...

And 1600 for that engine is a ripoff.... search other places because for that price you could get a VTEC engine ou a whole Accord

Haynes totally sucks their books are so general they are worthless. I use chilton they go in depth. I want a totally different(not mine rebuilt) engine because I completely f**ked mine and I dont want a low mile engine from a wreck either. I am open to suggestions on other places to get a engine if you know of any. I could not find a place that offered a decent warranty on their engines. I checked all the auto parts places in town and they want about $1600 for 1yr/unlimited mile warranty and $2400 for 3yr/30,000 mile warranty. I want a engine remanufacture that stands behind their product. Because Iam not going to invest my time and hard earned money on something that wont last and isnt warrantied.

yeah I saw a used engine on ebay for $400 but you never know what condition the engine is in. I would be one pissed motherf**ker if i spent 2 weeks or more doing a engine swap and clutch job to have a problem early down the road. If I wanted a used engine i could just buy another 3gee but I need something that is going to be reliable. Iam not out any money I bought the car for $1300 with a blown head gasket and 120k it cost me like $200 to do that. So an engine at $1600 brings me around $3000, what it cost for a nice 3gee with low miles. So as I see it this seems to be the best investment option other than buying a 98 Civic Hx and paying $500+ month on a car payment and higher full coverage insurance, not something Iam ready to do yet.

Again if anyone knows of a good place to get an engine, holler.

Junkyard man! Any engine in our yard is 150 regardless if its a tiny 4 cylinder or a 5.0

I think he solved that problem by now... You realize that this is a post from 15 years ago, when the car was 13 years old...

I came across this thread and was disappointed when I saw that the question wan never answered.
I to have an 89 LXi with a blown engine. I was also wondering if anyone has replaced an engine in one of these cars before and I also don't want to swap for a different engine but just replace the one I have now. So again I ask the question... If anyone has done this before, please let me know how difficult is it and what would be the cost. also, any suggestions on upgrades would be appreciated.
