WHATS UP GUYS!
im Having a problem as of today.
the temp gauge on my '88 accord lx-i (102,000 miles) is all over the place!
car runs excellent and doesent seem hot to me.
the needle jumps from the middle to hot and back again. what could be causing that? is there a sensor problem maybe?(where is the sensor exactly) is the water pump going? or is the gauge just jacked up?
any help would be great.............

you possibly have an air lock somewhere, or air in the system

I went through the same thing before. Should just be the thermostat. Super easy fix. Make sure you bleed the system afterwards..

thanks for the advise guys! im rather new to the whole honda gig.
the coolant fliud level is fine.....the car IS NOT overheating...
soon as i start the car up in the morning(mind you the outside morning temp is like 10 degrees in detroit right now)
the needle shoots right up to the hot and then does the dance between hot and cold....
im gonna do all the stuff you guys recommended this weekend!

The sensor is a single wire on the thermostat housing. make sure it not loose or correded.

The sensor works off of a variable grounding through the sensor. If the wiring or connector is damaged, it might be grounding and going to full hot randomly. The sensor in your car is located in the thermostat area. Look for loose connectors, chaffed wires, corroded contacts. If that checks out, get a multimeter and check the sensor resistance with the engine warming up. You can obtain the correct specifications in the Shop Manual which can be downloaded from http://www.pauldesign.ru/ Hope this helps.
