most of the time my accord seems ok, but the odd time i'll gas it and it won't pick up. lately it's been getting worse and the last few days it's been downright horrible, like i can't get it to go above 40km/h, and when it's doing this if i bring the car to a stop, it's idling at maybe 1-200rpms and ready to stall out.

5 minutes later it'll be running fine. it seems to be worse in the rain, like maybe water's getting into something it shouldn't, but i thought maybe it could be the fuel pump going because it doesn't seem like it's getting enough gas. it's completely intermittent and seems to happen out of the blue. maybe a vacuum leak or a crappy fuel filter? i think most of the parts on the car are original so it could be anything.

currently about 145,500km. any ideas?

I had that problem when I first bought my car back in "01. I finally got around to rebuilding the carburetor. It cured the problem. There is a thing most people do to test vacuum leaks. They spray carburetor cleaner on & around vacuum lines, if the idle goes up & down, there is a leak on that "particular" hose.
They have rebuild kits for about $40. There is a thread on rebuilding the carburetor on here in carb. section. Just label baggies in order when dis-assembling & pay attention when taking it apart. Hope that helps some.

This thread is acting up for some reason after I posted.

Here is the link to rebuilding your carburetor if you attempt it. :)

Check the fuel fitlers, you have two of them

Check the functioning of the HOT AIR DOOR DIAPHRAGM
it's located on the pipe leading into the air filter box.

Also check

If you have a vacuum gauge please use it... if not they are fairly cheap to buy. Then you can test for leaks or other engine problems.

A20A1, can you elaborate on where to use the vacuum gauge on where & what to put the tester at?

Thanks, I see the lines needed to be hooked up. I didn't see it before. Cool.....
