ummm you shoudl have jsut bought one, no offense but that looks like shit, and you're not gonna get shit for power gains, if i were you, i'd jsut put the stock bakc on. oh yeah clean you bay man, it's filthy and paoint your cover too.

im hopefully polishing it, the engine bay is alot cleaner than it used to be, i mean ya its nothing great , but it is better than stock and for 26 bucks for all of it including the breather its great for the money.

Hey easy on him, that stove pipe probably helps out a lot.

Sporno
01-06-2006, 11:46 AM
that pipe is really handy i can turn the pipe any direction and its for duct work so i know it dosent let any air out

short ram = warm engine bay air = warm air into efi system = no power gain. yout think it's goin faster cuz it sounds louder and you get cockier.

but yah just do a bit of cleaning, and it will look much better. :] wattsup with the user name. lol

what about short ram with a heat shield? There has to be a reason why people use short ram.

Sporno

if people didnt want short ram intake y would the only intake made for our cars be a short ram. obtw the engine bay is cleaner now, and about my user name my last name is sporn and people have called me sporno so it kinda just stuck.........

$$$$$$$ why would people make speed chips for our cars? $$$$$$$

seriously dude, if you want some good advise, and obviously you haven't searched AT ALL. you can make cold air intake for our cars, it's not hard at all.

i know i have searcherd i just dont have a ton of cash. i can extend the pipe which i hope to do this summer. and about the intake and my engine i just came in from cleaning it some more i hope to have pics up tonight. for everything else im on an extremly tight budget.........

btw short rams help, and they do add power. cold air intakes are generally more effective, but not always practical... im switching from CAI to short ram, when i install my new motor. the stock intake system on the accord is GARBAGE! even the worst short ram setup will definetly yeild gains.

It looks good.
Did your wires come pre crimped or did you crimp them as is?

The problem is the heat sheild looks like it restricts air flow to the filter... also your filter should be the size of that entire unit, maybe even bigger... what you have there is pretty small. You're not going to get cooler air with that style of heat sheilding.

Here is a good example of heat sheilding, I don't know if the metal is coated or not. Maybe not. If it was coated it would be perfect.
It has a air horn to help air flow, and it uses only one bend in the pipe.
The box keeps out hot engine bay air.

I dont think he ws planning on getting another 100hp out of the car so who cares, the stock box is restrictive as f***,even if he isnt getting "MAD" hp off it I bet its better than stock, hell you might even be surprised what it might bring,if he took it to a dyno tomorrow and had hp gains that shut you traps wouldnt it,give him a break people, and last I checked you all went f***ing wacko for CF,and theres no room to talk trash if your car looks shit in the first place

Short ram does make a difference. The most common reason that it was made for was flooding. Cold air intakes are longer therfore increasing the risk of engine damage if flooding was to occur. I have a weapon R short ram intake and I am pleased with its performance. It has improved my fuel economy a whole lot.

Sporno
01-07-2006, 10:02 AM
which of weapon-r's intakes did u get?

A20A1
01-07-2006, 11:12 AM
Weapon R is over priced. just get a K&N filter and make the piping home made.

getready

i bought some generic short ram off ebay, i'm thinking about making a heat sheild. I got kinda nervous about it, though, when everyone started saying it was shit...i'm glad that people came back and said its not. To me, cold-air is just NOT practical. It may yeild me more hp, but i really cant afford it, i'm not too great at making stuff, and i really cant afford water damage. Plus, it just makes sense that shorter piping would be less restrictive..

Anyway, i'm going to go ahead and use short ram, and i'll copy the heat shield in that pic that a20a1 posted, that intake is fucking awesome

And sporno, i hope you dont think i was giving you shit, i wasnt. I was basically just hijacking your thread to ask a question about short ram, my bad dude

You could also relocate the stock EFI box to where the battery is, use part of it as a heat shield already. plus you have the choice of a stock filter or the K&N replacement... just find a way of securing the filter without the lid... or cut a hole in the lid to expose the filter completely.

this may be kinda weird , but will silicone tubing like u can get at pepboys , will that help keep temps down a little i know its for dress up , but will it help any? and will polishing the valve cover change the performance ( not im not looking for 100 extra horsepower)

its ok... but it definetly wont help any performance. it might look nicer, which may be reason enough to do it, but u wont feel any performance gain other than knowing that your car is cleaner

* i just spend 3 hours yesterday STANDING in my engine bay cleaning it with simple green and an entire roll of paper towels lol * so its not like making ur car look nice is a bad thing...

"porting and polishing" doesn't mean cleaning up and polishing your valve cover. It refers to the cylinder head.:stupid:
Expanding the intake and exhaust ports and minimizing turbulence inside these ports. The polishing the pots for smooth flow. If you don't know what I'm talking about, stop trying to mod your car until you know about something besides:rice: !

OK you want my help...If your looking for a sjhort ram just buy one for a civic thats what I did ($10 ebay) and just buy a better filter (HKS, K&N).....but it will fit tight around your brake lines and batterry, Oh and be carfull of the vacuum lines it lays on not to disconnect any....
