Hi,

This is my first post in this forum, which is fantastic by the way, the forum that is. Finding a good forum for an old accord was not easy, for me anyway. Anyhow, I've inherited a completely stock Accord with 5 speed transmission, and it drives fine with two exceptions. First, the engine shakes when the clutch is released for first gear. I can suppress the shake by giving extra gas, but I feel like I'm brutalizing the clutch. Mechanically inclined friends suggested the problem might be the compression plate, the engine mount, or the carburetor. What do ya think? Second, when the RPM is high, like above 2000, the car hestitate very badly if I suddenly lift my foot off the gas pedal. The hestitation feels like the brakes have been engaged. The car has always done this since the day it rolled out of the dealership in 1988. The solution has been to not lift my foot off the gas suddenly, but be gradual about it. However, this makes the car a real bear to drive because it requires so much attention from the driver. What do you think? Do all Accords behave this way? THanks in advance. And thanks for all the great info in this site. I'm sure I'll be checking back often.
