Figured I'd go ahead and start a thread where I can post the progress of my car in pictures from the day I got it to the day I'm done with it (lol, like any of our cars are ever "done"). Well here goes, I just picked her up yesterday.

heh, well I have to get one of them out of here soon, they don't like me having so many cars, lol.

You guys think I got a decent deal? I traded my 95 Ford Aspire (5spd, 183K miles, A/C worked) and $500 for this Accord. I did it simply because I've been kicking myself in the butt for a year after selling my '84 Prelude. I really missed having a Honda. Sadly enough it's almost as fun to drive as the Supra and Fiero.

you traded an Aspire for it,which means that you were driving an Aspire...
of course it was worth it.

Today I ripped out all kinds of uneccessary stuff and cobbled together a CAI. I used a short ram intake from a 98 Mirage, and a CAI from a 92 Civic. It runs down below the battery, took a lot of trying to get it to fit, and it barely fits. It sounds incredible though, makes the whole car like 5x louder by itself.

I installed some fresh plugs today, changed the fuel filter (the old one was horrible!), and found out that one of my plug wires was intermitently losing connection. Along with my new CAI the car runs great! I took her out for a spin a few minutes ago, and I must say that even though I'm used to driving a V6 Fiero and a Supra turbo, this little Accord is still pretty quick. It's no monster, but it's definately not slow. I really like the way it feels to drive, hehe. I can't wait to get more done to it.

I'm thinking about suspension stuff next, what do you guys recommend coilovers or drop springs? Keep in mind that I'd be getting either off of eBay, so as far as the cheap ones go, what's better? Also what struts are recommended for nice tight handling?

maxsideburn
01-30-2006, 08:57 AM
I aquired a few new things today. I got a Bomz Racing "double decker" wing and a set of blue underbody neons. Neither are going on the car at the moment, because I think it looks super tacky when you have a big racing wing or underbody neons on a car that has stock wheels, stock paintjob, and no lip-kit or ground effects.

If you're going to say something about "rice", please don't even bother typing it all out, you're wasting your time. I have a Supra turbo and Fiero SE for fast, classic sports cars, I got the Accord so I'd have a little "sport compact" import tuner. So it's kinda the point ;)

i think you need to sand the lines of the valve cover to get it to bare metal and it will look 10x better and nice job on the intake

that intake pipe isnt hitting the brake lines is it? that'd be bad. lookin better for sure.

maxsideburn
01-31-2006, 06:48 AM
The intake is pushing up against what I would assume is the little metal "hub" thing with all of the little metal "brake lines?" going into it, but they're metal and it's not putting enough pressure to hurt anything.

Here's some pics I took today. I just installed my new MSD Blaster 2 coil, I must say that it idles so much smoother now. I also noticed a very small power increase (probably along the lines of 1HP or so). I know that normally you don't get any noticeable gains from just an upgraded coil, but I do also have a cold air intake so its possible. It's also possible that my stock system was just getting messed up. Either way I really recommend the MSD coils.

maxsideburn

don't know anything about a skid plate. As far as the blaster it's just a $32 autozone universal thing.

Beaver
03-07-2006, 07:08 PM
There is usually a plastic piece that goes under the front of your engine compartment, I ask because in the pics where you show your CAI, I can see a lot of daylight down there. May not be a bad thing though, means more cold air for your intake possibly. I might take mine off.

Off road trucks have skid plates all we got is a lil splash guard.A skid plate would be nice though, especially on a lowered car.

Just wanted to show you guys what all I did to fix up my 3G with $20 worth of parts from the salvage yard.

First off the door panels, especially the driver's side door panel. It was missing the bezel around the lock and the map pocket was broken to hell.

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/5391/before010ph.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/8440/after017ad.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Just because it was there I grabbed the little rubber pedal cover for the clutch pedal, I was tired of my foot slipping off of it in rainy weather.

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/9964/beforeafter010ev.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I got really tired of looking at that funky hole in my dash around my clock, so I made sure to grab a clock bezel too :)

http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/7884/beforeafter025wb.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Next I finally got to get rid of that enormous and useless "casette holder" thing in the center console. I would say that this is probably actually a "downgrade" technically, since it came from a base model, but to me it looks better and doesn't take up space with something that is useless.

http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/664/beforeafter031jf.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Finally I got a pair of the little trim pieces that go on top of the headlight buckets. I got tired of having holes right there. Well these aren't in perfect shape, but they do look a lot better.

http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/9582/beforeafter045qw.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Well that's basically what I got done for $20. Also I removed the big wing the other day, lol. Also I'm going to try to get you guys a shot of my shift knob at night, I'm usually not into "glow" stuff, but this one lights up through the mesh and looks schweet.

maxsideburn
03-11-2006, 09:16 AM
I know, I hate it too, eventually I will just be doing the red colors black and leaving the beige "fuzzy" pillars and cloth headliner.

Your car looked like it got it's ass kicked by a mustang. Paint that headlight cover to match just looks funny ;)

If you have a supra why the hell would you want to mess with a slow accord? I like my accord but speed is one thing it won't ever have compared to my prelude or newer cars. I wish I would have figured that out before I spent all the money I did on it. I'm still going to fix it up and repaint it but that will probably be the last major thing that I do to it.

Sometimes faster, more powerful cars aren't as fun to drive as lighter smaller cars with less power.

maxsideburn
03-15-2006, 03:27 PM
That's right. A lot of times it's not the shear power of a car, but how it feels to drive. The way the Honda feels on the road makes up for any power it doesn't have.

Anyway I tried the home depot lip trick today. I'd say it came out ok, but I'm going to use the other piece I have left over in a few days to give it another try, I think I can make it look even better with a heat gun to help mold it into place.

Muhahaha, when I first changed my thermostat my car was running really oddly, the idle would jump up then down and kept on doing that. Well I unplugged my battery for a few minutes to let my ECU reset, and then I took the Accord for a spin. Well I definately noticed a difference this time. Wow! I haven't reset the ECU since I added the CAI and the MSD coil. Leaving my driveway I don't think I had traction until halfway through 2nd gear, lol.

Anyway I put some orange bulbs in my indicator lights. I figured that the whole "clear lens with blue bulb" thing has finally ran its course, so I've decided to do something different. I'm going with orange indicator and turn lights, and then I'm going to put in some yellow weathervision bulbs. Also if you'll notice I have some white washer LEDs hooked up to my turn signals.

http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/443/picture1329xm.th.jpg (http://img119.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture1329xm.jpg)

Also you might notice that I painted my grill and headlight trim black today. I think it looks much more aggressive with the darker colors, at least that's my opinion.

You know what I think would look cool? USing those orange bulbs but wiring them the other way, so they were really bright MOST of the time, then blinked 'dim' for turn signals. I wonder if that'd be hard to do?

maxsideburn
03-16-2006, 06:45 AM
not really. you could just swap the indicator and turn signal fittings.

maxsideburn
03-21-2006, 06:52 PM
Here you go guys. Just a little update. I painted the top half of the dash black today, because I just got sick of that horrid burgundy/poo brown. I had an 89 LXi Coupe that had the dash like this, but of course the other color was tan.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7079/10000297ry.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And here's a picture from the backseat. If you look closely where the arrow is pointing there is something out of place. Anyone care to guess what it is and why it's there?

http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/889/10000304ql.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And I will be putting some gauges of my own design in soon (using Paul's wonderful templates, of course).

Ah, here we go. I picked this up at the local salvage yard today. It's the lip spoiler off of a "Special Edition 10th Anniversary" or something like that Accord. I think it was a 93.

It's not exactly the same as our cars, but I lined up the holes and they seem to come pretty close. So I think with a drill, a few bolts, and a little time it will be looking great in no time ;)

thanks speed penguin. Yeah this is far from my first car, hehe. I've had so many projects I can't even count them all. I have some stuff planned for this Accord, but for the meantime here's what's on my list for doing soon:

-{:Finish painting the tops of the doors to match the dash
-{:New 15" rims and tires & paint brake calipers red
-{:Wire up my LED spoiler
-{:Get a new hood
-{:Sand and prime the entire car
-{:Change a lot of front-end bushings
-{:Install some Prelude seats
-{:New windshield
-{:Install a glasspack to replace the stock muffler

That's what I have planned for the next few weeks. I'll keep everybody posted, but right now I'm gonna go get dressed and go out there and see about installing that 4g lip ;)

speedpenguin
03-23-2006, 10:34 AM
Are you upgrading the bushings or just replacing them?
And a cat-back exhaust should be fairly easy to get someone to weld together, and would make a nice addition to that CAI, but that's just my opinion.
Can't wait for more pics!

maxsideburn
03-23-2006, 11:15 AM
well like I said at least a straight through glasspack, but I "might" have the cat-back pipe diameter increased by 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

speedpenguin
03-23-2006, 04:23 PM
Oh, I thought you meant you were just going to replace the muffler.
But hey, either way, it's your car and at least you're actually getting stuff done on it.

maxsideburn
03-23-2006, 05:10 PM
I most likely will just replace the muffler to be honest. But I might get a high-flow cat and up the piping a little since I plan on installing some headers.

speedpenguin
03-23-2006, 05:19 PM
Well if you widen the piping you may as well wait on the muffler so you can get one that fits the wider pipe.

maxsideburn

yeah, I'm kinda trying to figure out what to do about the whole exhaust thing at the minute.

Anyway I know I posted this stuff in another post, but here's a couple of the shots just for posterity and so people can see the progress of my car.

I installed a 4th gen ('93 "10th Anniversary Edition") chin spoiler. It's subtle but I think it looks great.

Here's how I started off today. I had just returned from the junkyard with $10 in parts which consisted of a new rear-driver mudflap, a passenger side foglight blank, and two 88-89 sidemarker-turn signals. I also got in a bunch of LED bulbs today so I can outfit my car with those...but later, I want to be able to see the difference in the dark of night.

Anyway here's how I started, I guess my car is somewhat famously known as "The 3G with the black eye", lol. Well here's how she looked with the new chin spoiler and all as I started.

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/2015/10054072oz.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

This is the old gal with the 88-89 (at least I think that's why it's different) turn signal in place. Noticeably better already, although I did still like my originals.

http://img60.imageshack.us/img60/7767/10054086lm.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Here's a shot of the other side with the original light still in place. I really like it too, I'm kinda torn between the two. Just keep in mind that I'm going for a mostly "european" feel for my car, as opposed to most people who either want factory restoration, or JDM, lol. I just want my car to look nice, clean, unique, and most of all have just a slight european feel to it (no need to mention that EDM cars have non-popups, I know already, hehe) Anyway I sort of feel the new ones look more euro than the old, but then again I'm split. Tell me what you think....cruising through german backroads with the light shown above...or here?

http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/2354/10054092fu.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Well no longer can anyone say my car got ruffed up by a rowdy and drunken Prelude...the black eye has finally healed! Well, not really. But the primer is closer than the dark blue, lol. This shot also shows the lip nice and close. I will try to get some shots of the corners of it for you guys soon so you can see how exactly it lines up.

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7491/10054110vh.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And here's one more shot zoomed out. Just to show you how my design is finally comming together, lol. I have to admit I can have some wierd design ideas at times, but it usually comes out looking at least decent, if not sincerely good. It's getting there, lol.

http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/5381/10054122yd.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And just for kicks, here's what my old Prelude looked like when I sold her, hehe.

Anyone think an 84-87 Prelude bumper would fit our cars? Width-wise? There's one in my local junkyard and it would only be a minor hassle for me to try it against my 3G, if someone can explain to me how to get only the "bumper cover" off of my car, lol. I can only seem to get the actual bumper off, but I think the 2G Prelude bumper cover would actually fit over our bumper and look pretty damned nice. So if you're as interested in finding out as I am let me know how to get this thing off, lol.

Personally, I like the 88-89 side markers better, not just because of the smaller orange turn signal, but also because of the lines on the unit as opposed to that weird pattern on the 86-87 markers. But if you're going to switch, get a new grill and headlight trim pieces so the pattern matches up.

Ok some more stuff I finally got done to the car after wrestling with that EGR problem for a while.

This first pic shows nicely what I did with my gauges. I painted the outline silver with some model paint, to give the illusion of a aluminum trim ring.
http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/1944/10054345uz.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And this is what it looks like assembled with my gauge cover painted flat black.
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2657/10054355od.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Now these are the "JDM" (hah) markers that I ordered from eBay, they were really cheap and looked to be very easy to install. I was right ;)
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9131/10054369vs.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Here's how I installed them: I positioned the light in place, drew a circle around it and drew in the holes. I cut close the the edge but didn't go over with a dremel tool, then drilled out the screwholes. I then ran some wiring from my side turn signal (next to headlight) to these. That way when I have my headlights on these also come on. I ran the wiring by undoing the fender bolts and running a coat-hanger through the fender to the hole, then pulling the wiring back through the other side. I think they came out pretty nice myself. You'll see for yourself later in this post.
http://img446.imageshack.us/img446/8868/10054374vj.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I was tired of the stupid PGM-FI light and the Brake light being red, too much freakin' red all the time, made me think the car was about to blow up. So I re-colored them while I had the gauges apart by simply switching around the little plastic color screens. The PGM-FI is now orange, and the Brake indicator is now green. Much more soothing if you ask me. BTW, aren't most car's CEL orange anyway?? lol
http://img322.imageshack.us/img322/2976/10054408wz.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Just a nice pic of the gauges installed with the newly painted "trim rings" and flat black plastic surround, not a huge improvement, but I think it does something for the car.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/1109/10054415zd.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

A rear shot, the car is finally starting to look like I want it to look. Basically I'm going for a whole European market thing. I have even been thinking about what to call it when I'm finished. I've almost settled on Honda Accord GTE (Grand Touring Edition) or (Grand Touring Europe). I'm not going for 200bhp, or anything fancy like that. I'm just adding some euro-touches to the car, putting some nicer rims and tires (something BMW-ish I was thinking), and eventually going to get it painted a nice silver.

As for what will be modified on the finished car here's a brief list. CAI, Blaster 2 coil, 4g map sensor, new OEM-type suspension, shortened shifter with custom leather and alluminum shift knob, emblems modified (front H logo removed, rear logo changed to say Accord GTE), 4g front lip spoiler, nicer wheels and tires, sidemarker lights, "vignetted" taillights (you'll see), 4g spoiler, "weathervision" style yellow headlamps with matching fog lamps, custom front strut tower bar, pacesetter header, "slightly" modified exhaust system with nice but subtle chrome muffler, sunroof wind deflector, "blacked out" 88-89 sidemarker lights, small and tasteful hood vent to help cool engine bay, and just a lot of other small "tweaks" to add something strangely "european" about the car. This is my first project car to be leaned toward the whole "euro" thing, so we will see how it comes out. Here's a nice back shot, anyway.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9849/10054393bt.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And a nice perspective shot showing off the new sidemarker lamps and the new 4g chin spoiler, which in my opinion looks great on these cars.

One thing about those 'side marker' lights. Rust. You need to smooth out that hole that you made, and coat it with something or it's going to start rusting like crazy. Also, all the metal 'dust' from cutting the hole will need to be cleaned out from behind the fender, otherwise it too will be a breeding ground for rust.

Also, keep your headlights white and the fogs yellow. More info here: http://danielsternlighting.com/tech/lights/light_color/light_color.html

Also... a hood scoop?!? No dude! Please no! Your car (aside from the paint) looks decent right now... don't put a scoop on it!

Couple of new pics, I just got some Prelude seats today, shown next to an old Accord seat. (tan because I have the tan and burgundy interior and the only other color they had was blue). I also got a new hood to replace the crappy dented one I had before. This one isn't perfect either, but a little dab of body filler here and there will even it out nicely. Oh yeah, and I also got a sunroof wind deflector finally :)

yeah i also got some Prelude seats. i washed them but i did not do a good job and you can still see dirt in them...so i might get a real steam cleaner since im going to paint them black....the guy gave them to me for free(hehe) well i still got to fix my hood and trunk...how much did you pay for the parts?

maxsideburn
05-01-2006, 04:50 PM
$140 for the seats and hood......of course I also snuck out a few parts like a new 88-89 passenger side turn signal, shifter console, sunroof wind deflector and 4g MAP sensor. Not that they care, I buy shit from them all of the time, I don't imagine too many other people are actually buying 3G Accord stuff, lol.

Tomorrow I'm going for a passenger side tan sun visor, new EFI intake manifold w/EGR valve, and a few other odds and ends. The only problem I'm having it that I'm pretty much out of things to get from the junkyard. Here's what I've gotten from them so far:

Door mounted map pockets (both sides)
shifter console (went from casette holder to basic)
driver side doorlock bezel
several mud guards
hood
prelude seats
4g map sensor
dash clock bezel
4G "special edition" front chin spoiler
headlight "trim" (both sides)
88-89 turn signals
and tons of odds and ends like plastic screw covers, minor trim pieces, etc...

I'd say my car is almost "perfect" as far as what a junkyard can do to make it look better. Just about every part on the car at least looks like what you'd expect a 20 year old car to look like if it was kept in good condition. (i.e. old-person-garage-kept).

I'd say if I do some very minor body work, get a paint job, and put some new wheels on it it will look very nice.

maxsideburn

coded their post??

As for my gauges, I was originally going to do the white faced gauges, but I changed my mind in favor of something more classic. And as for the silver ring just look at the pictures really closely. What I did was take my cluster completely apart, then I took each gauge and painted the little "lip", not the gauge itself, but the little lip that kinda goes behind the gauge trim silver with silver model paint. The effect is that I now have a silver "ring" around each gauge. I'm quite satisfied with it, especially being the first one to do it :)

Sorry for the lack of an update for a long time guys, but I'm back. I got married so I was away on honeymoon, then I came back and had to leave town again, lost my cell phone, all kinds of crap. Anyway I finally got something else done.

Today I had my high flow catalytic converter and "fireball" muffler installed. I found a place in a small town nearby (Opelousas, LA) who did it for $50 plus tax. Here in Lafayette they wanted to charge me that just to weld on the pipe and another $75 to install the cat, so I said to hell with that.

Anyway it sounds really nice, a real deep hum that carries a lot of bass when I'm pushing the car hard. I would really recommend this setup if you're looking to go cheap and get some nice sound. I bought, shipped, and installed all of these items for about $150.

Well what I was getting at is that at first I almost felt like giving up on this forum, because it seemed as though every question had been asked and asking a question again was a forbidden thing.......but I'm glad I stuck around. Like most forums I just had to get used to the people here, and I'm glad to be here now. In fact I certainly look forward to having some 3Geez.com stickers on my car when it's all painted up and looking nice.

Anyway mad 3Geez love to you guys. It's so great to see so many people enthusiastic about the car that made Honda a name to be reckoned with in the american market. (If you don't know what I'm saying please google for "honda accord history)

lol...my car is really not that great. if you would see it in person you would be uh....did you photoshop those pics? lol anyway i guess i could say sorry for ever telling you to search but then that wouldnt make you a 3geezer like you are now. i guess its kinda a initiation to the site. everyone here has had it from the oldest member to the newest guy and the guys that are going to come (especially after the magazine article on adam). if they stick around they will get to type in big capital letters SEARCH! for the next guy. cuz it really is funny, and sometimes frustrating to get people asking...."so i bought an 86 dx....i want some 300hp on it! where do i get b16 mounts?" i actually laugh everytime i see that shit because of the fact that the kid will be like...damnit i cant find shit for this stupid 20 year old car! hahahahaha

anyway your car is really coming along nicely! the wheels is actually what made if POP. if you know what i mean. the only thing i think you really need next is in fact paint! i know i had to save up some pennies to get mine but dude once you get the first high from the fresh paint when you walk into the booth..........man youre say to yourself....ok it was worth it :D

good luck with the car buddy

yeah paint is getting closer and closer on my list of things to do.

Oh, also, crazykamper I will try to get you a closer shot of the wheel later, and as far as how it feels it takes a little getting used to . It's a little smaller around than a stock Accord wheel, but it's fatter also, so you have more to grab onto. So here's my verdict, it's fantastic if you have good power steering, if your PS is going out or you don't have it, you should probably stay with a stock wheel.

crazykamper
06-08-2006, 09:48 AM

maxsideburn
06-08-2006, 10:29 AM
it's not leathery at all, just feels like a nice sporty sort of rubber, although it does look kinda like leather. Like I said all in all it's actually very nice once you get used to it.

found this little stuff while I was at the junkyard the other day when I also grabbed a new lighted mirror assembly for my passenger side sun visor and a couple of other trim pieces.

The 2.0Si is off of a 3G Prelude.......well close enough, lol. Should look nice on the back of my sedan, I think I will put it in the place of the LXi badge, because I don't want the back looking stupid and cluttered up. I also grabbed some gauge needles from a 1G Eclipse. I'm going to use them to replace my funky looking stock needles whenever I install some actual gauge trim rings.

i have never seen the hood light on my car...first time i see it...did it come in the 88 honda accord dx sedan ?

this is not hood light but the light for the pop-up light. When your headlight try to open but can't 'cause of any reason, this light will go on. I already got this light on 'cause of the ice over. The headlight wasn't able to open. Light turn on. Break the ice, restart the car and light go off.

I recieved my 92 Civic front strut tower brace today, and with a few hours of cursing I managed to install it. I did; however, have to visit the local Advance Auto Parts, purchase a 92 Civic tower brace, and swap the studs out. The one they sell at Advance has a slightly shorter bar with slightly longer studs, my bar is the long one, but with the shorter studs, so it wasn't long enough for an Accord. Well now that I have my long bar and longer studs it installed ok, just required a little drilling. Also I intend to brace it up later by drilling another hole through the mounting plate and through the engine bay metal and tapping it for a bolt, that should be more than enough to keep it in place.

You see, the little "studs" were too short on this bar I got from eBay. So I went to Advance Auto Parts, bought their 92-01 Civic front strut tower brace for $30 and then went into the parking lot, swapped their slightly longer ones for my slightly longer ones, then returned the part and got my money back. Then I went home and installed it.

I mean there's no super easy way to explain it, you kinda just have to get our there and play with it. If you're at least comfortable with drilling holes and grinding metal in some parts this shouldn't be hard for you.

gfrg88
06-13-2006, 12:56 PM

dude stop trying to get them to make a 4th gen section. its not going to happen. the 4th gen accord already has there own site. and they dont need another one. if we end up having a 4th gen section then this site is going to become just like accordtuner.com. dont bring this up again, and if u do ill :banned: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e191/General_Ridley/Ban.gif

Well I won't be modifying the Accord too much anymore, just a few things. Cams, H23 manifold, then some visual stuff like front lip, bigger rims, and jdm headlights, and stuff like that.

Here's what I'll be spending the rest of my time on. My buddy is leaving for Italy (army stationing) for three years and he gave me his raced out 92 Eagle Talon TSi Turbo AWD. This thing has comp cams, bored 20 over, all new cv axles, new brakes, engine rebuilt 20K miles ago, brand new stage 5 clutch, boosting at 16psi. This car has run a 12.6 before on race gas.

someone asked what I got for the 3G Accord I had. Well I got $900 AND my red '90 Accord Coupe. So I'd say I got a pretty good deal there. That's why I couldn't pass it up, even though I really liked 3Gs a lot.

Hopefully one of these days I can find a hatchie 3G and pick it up at a good price, or trade my '90 Coupe for a hatchback 3G, but until then I gotta rock the 4G.

maxsideburn
12-26-2006, 02:03 PM
yeah the lude seats were wicked in my 3gee.

Personally I miss my 3gee, even though I hate 4dr cars. The 3G had a story to it, a heritage. The 3rd generation Honda Accord was the car that made Honda a force to be reckoned with in the Americas. I feel that my 4G doesn't have that "magical charm" that the 3G had, in fact I think it's pretty soul-less, but nonetheless there are some good points to it. So what follows is a review of the 4G based on what I've learned so far (if you're considering a 4G then read below)

PROS:

1.) MUCH stiffer and more responsive handling. That's one major point I can definately give to the 4G. The 4G doesn't have that "floaty" feeling suspension the 3G did. In fact even a 3G with a modified suspension will still feel more bouncy and floaty than a stock 4G. Also 4G & 5G struts and springs are interchangeable, so that gives you more options.

2.) Longer wheel base. Yes I know that this sounds like a bad thing, but actually it is magnificent. In fact the 4G Accord has pretty much the longest wheelbase of ANY car in it's class that I can find. Most people are in agreement that FWD cars are impossible to drift, but having such a long wheelbase makes the 4G capable of throwing it's rear end all over the place. Perhaps not true drifting, but still pretty fun.

3.) Lots of engine choices. You can easily cram an H22 into a 4G, not to mention that there are also tons of other choices for engines. This car is underrated in the Honda world, but in fact it has one of the largest selection of engine choices available, many that drop right in such as the F22b DOHC or F22b SOHC VTEC.

4.) MUCH better aftermarket support. There are actually a selection of headlamps, taillamps, strut tower bars, see-through distributor caps, headlight covers, full exhaust setups, turbo kits, etc... And all to be had at even cheaper prices than the little bit of 3G parts that are available. During a typical search for 3G parts on eBay you will find roughly 500-700 parts, whereas 4G cars usually have around 5000 parts available!

5.) Lots of parts available. Since the 4G was so popular parts are abundant.

CONS

1.) More complicated EFI system. This can cause problems because these cars are more prone to idle problems and running rich or lean.

2.) Standard parts prices. OEM parts (non-aftermarket) are somewhat more expensive than the 3G.

3.) Even though it may look and feel less like a "grandma car" in some ways than the 3G it also doesn't feel as "Japanese" as the 3G. It feels more American-ised and definately feels more generic. Also there's no hatchback model, probably a good thing though, as the wagon version looks hideous and a hatchback probably would have as well.

Well here's a look at what I've done to my 4G so far:

hehe. Everything's been pretty cool, working a lot and trying to play with the Accord and Talon whenever I can. I'm also going to try to post some pics of the Talon when I can. That thing is an exquisite machine. The Honda is still kind more fun though, because you don't have to worry about being gentle with it because it's cheap to fix :)

Well I feel kinda bad about still posting stuff in this thread even though it's about a 4th Gen, but here goes.
I took some photos today, got the lip installed, installed my pillar pod and gauges, blackhoused headlights, etc...

Interior, you can see my Alfa Otto gauges, pillar pod, red/black leather ebrake boot, black with red stitching shift boot, etc...

You can see the blackhoused headlights and new mugen lip.

looks good, looks real good. i'm liking the black/red color scheme you have going. my only gripe is your corner lights. they stick out like a sore thumb. you should've got the lights that include corners (are those only 5g+?) or else get some corners w/ black housings.

maxsideburn
01-15-2007, 09:17 AM
actually the corners are there on purpose......I wanted to go for the solid ambers instead of some flashy clears or blackhoused ones, to me the solid amber is like something off of an M3, which I've always noticed the 4G Accords have a very slightly BMW-ish look to the front.

Looks good!

I don't like the Super clear, clear corners

I like the clear with a small amber reflector and the ones like you got

Hey guys I know I haven't posted on here in a while but I've been really busy. I'm kinda poking around the forums seeing how far everyone's cars have come. Looking good fellas.

I recently did some major upgrades to the 90 Accord the replaced my 3gee.

I wanted one when I was looking for a GSR replacement. Still kinda wish I had, but I don't think it would have been intelligent.

How's the reliability on those things? Gas mileage? Storage space? Come on, talk me into it.

maxsideburn
05-23-2007, 03:47 AM
From what I understand the MX5 Miata is the most reliable Mazda ever built, gas mileage is better than my wife's '04 Nissan Sentra, the trunk is pretty small, but you can fit a few groceries or a suitcase or two.

Its light, nimble, pretty quick in a straight line, the shifter has an extremely short throw, the turning circle is the best I've ever seen, and everything about the car from driving it to closing the doors/trunk/hood feels solid and sturdy like it's meant to last and be comfortable.

How's that for talking you into it? My suggestion, GET ONE! You'll never regret it, even though a lot of people think they would, once you have it you you forget all of that nonsense.

speedpenguin
05-23-2007, 03:53 AM
I guess I'd have to see if my swords can fit into the trunk. That's my main concern.

Damn dude, decide what car you want and stick with it!
Sorry to be rude it's just that I don't see a point to doing anything to a car and then getting rid of it.

True. I just have a lot of friends who get cars and say that they are gonna mod the hell outta them. And they'll be talking about that car for half a year or so and get so serious about it; saying subaru or honda for life. They'll go onto forums and look at stuff on the computer 24/7. They'll get me excited about what they're doing and want my help. Then they decide out of the blue to go and get another car. It's just f***ed up
