I love coming to the accord pics section and admiring all the sweet 3geez. I love all the really clean looking cars, and all the cool mods people post in this section, but I also love my 3gee, and I thought I should give her some time in the 3 geez spotlight. Sure she doesn't actually have any mods per say. And sure she's nothing special to look at. And sure she's showing her age with all the rust, but this car has been owned by my family since 1988 and has been daily driven ever since. Heck, in my opinion, that right there is grounds enough for a thread on the accord pics section, so here goes.

These pictures were takin shortly after the auto tranny went dead in late June. Since then she has gotten a new motor(new to me), a new 5 speed tranny(again, only new to me) and some sweet SE-i cupholders that were a birthday gift from my friend.

By the way her name is April. . .

By the way, now that I've spent all my money on the motor replacement and 5 speed swap, I'm going to make it a worth while investment and see what I can do with the exterior. Noting flashy, but maybe I can fix those rust holes, then give her some factory steelies, and then maybe a repaint. We'll just have to see how the funds go, but I would love for my 3gee to look young again. Well, she at least needs a new LX-i badge put on, her old one got swallowed by the rust hole!

lol, that's the understatement of the century. Yeah, the brutal Chicago weather + road salt in winter sure has taken its toll. I hope i can fix those holes, but I think bondo won't do it. Any suggestions?

i think the only thing that would fix your uh holes, is a new parts off of a donor car. by that i mean you would have to cut them off of the other car and weld them on to yours. and no bondo wont work

Well, the car phone did work before i pulled the old engine and tranny out, it's not hooked back up currently, and it did give me quite a few headaches when I forgot about the phone and was wondering what the mysterious wire was under my hood, see my other thread for that:

I figgured they were too big for bondo. So i take that section of metal from a donor car and weld it onto mine. . .sounds about like what I expected to have to do. What about the side rust? What can I do about that?

same thing for the quarter panels. unfortunatly they dont come off all willy nilly like the fenders do. just find a dornor car in good conditon, of course that means no rust, and cut off the pieces you need. i dont know how much this would cost if you go get them at a junk yard. dude i dont even think they would let you take a torch in there lol. anyway on each rust spot that big and in pieces attached to the over all body i would say, donors!!! AND ACTUALLY you can use bondo just to smoother everything out after its all welded.

GOOD LUCK

you can get a replacement weldable wheel arch at Napa. They're not too expensive and will work great. The part under the taillights can be bought at Honda.

Before doing anything, check under the wiper motor and under the vacuum box to see if you have big rust holes. These cars tend to rust through at these spots.

Man, I want a carphone thats awesome!!

But ya, thats cool that your family has owned the car since new, good luck fixing it up, stay away from bondo for the most part, new metal is the way to do it.

You think that phone's sweet? Get this, we even have a "bag phone". Now most of you probably havn't heard of such a device, but it is in fact a phone, similar to the one in the pics, that comes in a purse like leather case, it's sweet, but we've had that line disconnected for years. Car phone's still good though, i can get some close up pics if you want.

wow, i didn't actually think anyone would respect my car given it's rustiness, so that's pretty cool, I thought I was the only one that respected my car.

Are you sure, by the looks of it, they appear to be attached to the whole rear body/quarter panel assembly. Can you confirm that they com out, because that would make my life so much easier!

Yo could fiberglass them. I dont know how experienced you are with it, but with the lights out and bumper off, I'd be confident enough to do it. I just used fiberglass for the first time yesterday and it is a bit of a pain. My only tip: USE GLOVES!!!! I still have some on my hands 2 showers and a day n a half later.

well, when it comes to body work I'm completly inexperienced. Heck, my motor/5 speed swap was my first true mechanics experience. i do however have a friend who's studying to be a mechanic and he's pretty good at welding, so maybe I'll have him help me weld in some metal, then smooth it over with bondo. would that work?

On a somewhat related note. . .

Here is my carphone disconnected b/c of my 5 speed swap and subsequent discovery of a heater core leak

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/shadowkat1/DSCN0370.jpg

here is the hands-free mic for the phone. . .that's right hands free from the late 80's - early 90's

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/shadowkat1/handsfreemic.jpg

Here's the almighty bag-phone in its carrying case (a.k.a. bag)

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/shadowkat1/DSCN0372.jpg

And last but not least, the bag is opened up to reveal the phone inside

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/shadowkat1/DSCN0369.jpg

Gotta love that late 80's technology. . .I guess that's why we all love our 3geez!!!

Don't know if we'll even sell it. It'll probably go into our storage room and stay there with a whole bunch of other relics that my family saves because we don't get rid of anything(i.e. a certain 1989 accord that I just fixed for probably more than 3 times the car's scrap value)
