I have a 89 accord. Today my battery light went on. Yesterday I had the brake lamp light go on (near the bottom of the instrument panel, not the emergency brake light). I checked all my bulbs and they work fine, the brake fluid is topped off. Does anyonew know if these problems are related? I am guessing that I will need to replace the alternator. Any tips or advice on how to get the alternator in and out of that tight space would be greatly appreciated!!

For your alternator, you should do the charge test

but if you know for sure that its the alternator, hope this helps

i had a brake warning light come on but all the bulbs were working, it turned out to be corrosion on one of the bulb sockets. i would get some electrical cleaner and some electrical lubricant. they sell them in the electronic section at home depot , you need to clean all the bulb sockets. you will probably see a very dry socket with some residue on it thats probably the culprit.

Thanks so much for the advice and diagrams. They helped alot. I was able to slip the alternator out through the passenger side after removing the heater hose. This also seemed to fix my brake light problem.

to all, had my alternator checked. only needed brushes. 5 bucks for brushes, 1.79 for solder. sanded them til they fit nicely.
