On how to replace it. It appears to be a part of the upper control arm. Is this the case? Whole arm has to be replaced?

The front upper ball joint is pressed on to the upper control arm. You have to replace the whole unit. Replace the bushings while it is off.
Removal is pretty straightforward, hit it with a pickle fork or ball joint seperator.

Thanks! I was hoping that I could get the joint and press it in myself, but it doesn't look like that's possible.

I pressed my rear ball joint out and put a new one in, it worked fine.
