Did you do any modifying to the stick at all? I'm planning to do something like this soon and was wondering if you cut it or anything like that. Oh BTW did you get the inspiration from me?

As a matter of fact, I did!

I actually measured the total length of the inner rod was sticking out of the top of the shifter shaft with the handle removed. I intended to cut the outer shaft with a tubing cutter, but the one I had was too wimpy and I only got about halfway through. I cut the rest of the way carefully with a hacksaw. I believe the length of the inner rod was 1.5" above the outer shaft. The shift knob is an Ichiban that I got on eBay for $25. They cost $50 retail, but they sure are a lot nicer than the el-cheapo versions.

Of course, once you have done this you can never go back...
