Has anyone done the teg gear swap in the transd with a turbo setup, how are the gears, too short, do you recomend sticking with accord gears for turbo??? I'm gonna be auto crossing, and road racing so I'll need short gears, but I don;t want them to be too short when I turbo this summer....

I don't know about the accord tranny in general..did you see my pic of what I did to my 5th gear?

I sold the gears from my accord tranny when I did the teg swap to a guy with a turbo teg because he felt his teg gears were too short. I'd think you'd want a carbed accord tranny because you'd have the torque to take advantage of the smaller final drive.

I'm more then happy with the teg and turbo now. Yea it hurts my mpg some but I gain a lot in acceleration. get the carbed tranny and better mpg and slower accel and higher top speed. By the way the teg tranny is out of gear by 135mph.

i think the 2nd gen lude si or LXi/SEi tranny would be best, not too long, not too short. From what i hear the teg tranny is gonna be REALLY short gears esp for turbo

Thats what I'm afraid of...

I'm not a bit concerned about gas milage, cuz when its done it will be barely street legal....So you guys are recomending stick with my current 88LXi trans, or use a carbed trans??

for na id say go to a teg trans, but if youre turbo ill bet youll have better luck with lxi/ludeSi ratios

whats the difference between a tranny from a carb as opposed to one from an lx-i?

final drive. The lxi has a shorter final drive, so you have lower gears

johnny-o went thru a few, i know justin went thru a few, and jason budd has gone thru 9! i would say we know the weak point in the a20 powered setup.

yea the tranny blows ass, but I still recomend the teg tranny. I'm putting down about the same Epicenter is and the teg works perfect. Maybe in the 250whp+ range it might be a little to tight geared, but I'm not there yet to find out. Oh if you guys think the teg is too tight, try a miata gear box. :Owned:

im just thinking i already have zero traction... shorter gears would be even bigger trouble with turbo... but i havent tried it, its just my opinion. I toss the idea around on slicks though but i think youd need to up the rev limit to make it really effective...

Well the main weak points on all the Honda trannies for our cars whether TEG, Lude or Accord are the main diff bearings are very weak for continual hi speed runs, also the syncros are quite easy to wear out when your putting down 150bhp plus and abusing the box at the same time, normally i'll get 20-30k miles before it starts needing some attention but that would have included quite a few track days a a lot of drag runs, plus being driven extremely hard on the road too. 3rd and 4th syncro normally go first but these are only £30 odd pounds so aren't massively expensive but the new gaskets and labour time involved to remove and fit costs more money especially quality tranny fluid. It would be nice to be able to get modded gearbox parts but their isn't anyone out there who does anything so were stuck with regualr rebuilds not had anything break badly yet gears and shafts seek to last just syncros and bearings wear out quicker but the bearings can be replaced with better ones. Maybe an oil cooler might help as the temp does get quite high after a hard drive on track. And regular oil changes every 10-15k.
