Pulled out the armrest I had been integrating my LED controls into and did a bit more work to it. Yanked the cloth armrest part off and put my CD changer controls in its place. Too many hours of bondo, sand, bondo, sand, bondo, sand, bondo, sand, sand, sand, bondo, sand, etc.

Anywho, here's what I have now (primed)

I have more plans in mind for this little gem :)

Thats pretty cool.Whats going to under the armrest it looks like a phone, and what else beside LEDs are you going to be putting in it.

It's the controller for my CD changer.

LEDs won't be going into the armrest itself, just the electronics and dials to control them. I also plan on putting a 12v adapter in there along with a 120VAC plug.

so are you going to put a cloth part back on it? maybe covering the half that doesn't have the controls or something.

Naah, the foam and cloth were badly damaged so away they went. I've got a LOT of fine grit sanding to do in order to get rid of all the not-so-perfect areas and then I'll add some more to it.

However my big conundrum is what to do with the center channel...

Quick couple of shots with the changer controller's guts installed.

It looks like a pretty inconvenient place for a changer control while driving. :dunno:

I have the leather armrest & a remote for my HU, and I would have trouble reaching it comfortably while driving, much less having to look back at the LED screen while driving.

Maybe it works pretty well if the gf is running the changer, but it would be inconvenient to access when driving IMHO.

Interesting concept, but I question the overall ergonomics. :(

Peace.

looks pretty cool, what type of cd changer is that? i dont think i have ever seen controls like that. usually they're a lot smaller and without the "10 key"

what else are you going to intergrate with that arm rest? i see a few knobs in the front where the parking brake lever goes, are those for your led's that you were talking about?

anyway..props for all the work. looks like its comming along great!

edit: you know i was thinking the same thing as "the watcher" but really didnt think more than once about it. although he is right. i know its kinda hard for me to open the armrest and look for things in the lil cuby under it....since that looks like its in the same spot as the cuby it would probably be as hard to manage it. again i think its great work but, it would propbably be better if you fabbed up the led part of the controls next to the antena switch. well opposite from it at least. of course this is all assuming that the control piece is taken apart and not just one single piece like a remote.

For me, the changer goes on random. However my passengers love to goof with it so it's set up for easy access by passengers in the back as well as up front. If I do want to change discs or tracks, it's easy to reach down and press a few buttons (as mentioned, it is set up like a phone keypad).

It's got all the buttons b/c it's a 10 disc mp3 changer with a search function. The dials to the left of the e-brake are for adjusting the tricolor LEDs. One for red, one for green and one for blue. I put up pics of this project a long time ago, lemme see if I can dig them up.

aaaaah i see. well i missed this thread because i only joined in the ends of last year. its a great idea! did you ever finish it? i sorta understood most of what you were saying but to tell you the truth...not really lol. if you told me how to wire it and explained why something did what it did...then i would. of course that would cost a shitload of money for a proffessor to teach...and im sure you either paid that or just learned by yourself. in which case you would not want to share something you paid for. lol

anyway. both projects look great and very original!

Sweet dude. I was going to say, if this was meant for you, you should have put it under the window control switches on the driver side arm rest. That'd be sweet.
