This is "SJ walhalla" if you ask me. You sure won't have any trouble getting spare parts! Old Accords must be more common in the USA. By the way, wheels look different than on mine. More holes.

Hi
Nice collection!

The transmission swap could be tricky. The 1980 model with 3 speed Hondamatic, got a small facelift and many parts are changed a little.
At manual transm., the countershaft is different between 79 / 80 models, surely too at Hondamatic.
And there are many more small differences, for example:
The 1980 3 speed shift lever don’t fit to the 1979 body.
The knuckles / drive shafts fits are different, don’t know how they fit to the transm.

But, ofcourse, I only know European models, maybe some details are different in US. (?)

Good luck!
D.

SJ WALHALLA?? lol. Well I believe the 2sp tranny and 3sp tranny (both auto) will swap out. Ive looked around and asked around and was told it would. But you might be right. Only one way to find out when I swap them. Yeh Im going to get that hatch up and running again, but no european mirrors or anything...back to straight factory like the way she came out of the showroom floor back in 1980 in Hopkinsville Ky.....

Sounds good, keep us up to date. I actually have a question for you, can the a20 from the 3geez swap into the g1 accords. If so is there a non carbed model to make the wiring a little easier.

Nope. 1-2g accords were all carb i believe....dont quote me on that but every 1-2g accord ive seen or worked on was carbed..

dose that also mean that the a20 dosent have the same mounting mounts as the stock motor on the 1st gen. I could do the wiring with no problem, if it was carbed. I would love to restore one, but I would like a little newer and quicker motor. As for what you asked me in the other thread, I would buy one in a hartbeat, if you lived in texas. I think I will just get a g2 hatch and swap a a20 with a little turbo and restore it.

that would be awsome, but I need to figure out about the a20 into the g1 hatch. If the motor dosent work in the g1, do you have any G2 hatches that you would be willing to bring down?

I looked into the grey one for you, and after looking at it and talking to previous owner, i was told the body was shot. They said the suspension is about damn near ready to come through the engine bay lol. Engine and all runs..body shot..I tried to look it over but it was dark. I wouldnt feel comfortable selling you a car that might be a dude, specially to a fellow 3ger...... yes i know im an accord slut..what can i say..i like my accords. lol

Well let me figure out if the 1g's can take an a20 (I personally liek the G1 hatch styling better), if so I will definitly buy one of those from you. I would love to restore it, lower it a little, puts some 14's on and drop an a20 in there. It would be my daily driver.

No, I'm the Accord whore. I have FOUR and they all run. 81LX 3 door, 84S 3 door, 89Lx-i Coupe (Se-i rear brakes/armrest/cupholders), 92EX coupe. I suck. Just call me "Brokeback Accord". I'm into the 84 right now, but I ebb and flow. My 81 is just plain sweet, IMO. Sounds cocky, but this thing is a gem. Anyone wanna host some pics for me??? Both the 84 and 81 are out of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area ironically. NO rust on either, both one owner older lady's. I got lucky or just stupid. Wow, I feel like a scrub after this post. But, they are all in great shape at least!

Hi
I checked again my part list for the 79 / 80 Hondamatic swap and it looks like it is possible, if you change the torque converter too.
Only the 1980 drive shafts do not fit to 1979 hubs. I think, the best way is to swap the complete drive train, knuckle, bearing, drive shaft, (and shocks?).
But think, the speedometer assembly needs to be changed too, because of the shift lever display and this got surely a different wiring. (At least one additional wire)
