I was in the process of swapping the drums and shoes from my 89 lxi donor car, to my 86 lxi daily driver today. I had everything ready to go and found that the wheel cylinders have different bolt patterns. The cylinders on my 86
have bolt studs on them, While the cylinders from the 89 have seperate bolts
that screw into the cylinder from behind the hub. Also the bolt holes on on the 89 cylinders don't match up with the holes on the back plate of the hub on my 86. I am going to have to swap the back plates from the 89 to the 86,
The only problem I have run into is getting the parking brake cable unattached from the back plate. There's this weird metal clip with little prongs that are spread out to keep the cable attached to the back plate. How in the hell do you remove the cable from the back plate without breaking anything ? Any help and advise is most apprecaited.
